Psalm 41:1-13
Ill and alone
Blessed is the one who considers the poor! The blessing is "The Lord sustain him on his sickbed; in his illness you restore him to full health."
O Lord, be gracious to me, heal me, for I have sinned against you! -- reason
Even my close friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted his hell against me. -- When we are weak, even our friend may betray us.
But you, O Lord, be gracious to me, and raise me up, that I may repay them!
But you have upheld me because of my integrity, and set me in your presence forever.
A general truth: Happy are those who help the needy; in time of need. God will help them.
Outline the psalmist's own case: his
illness, his isolation, his reliance on God.
A formal stanza(節) of praise to God, with the people's 'Amen!' added to mark the end of the first book of psalms.
Why?
Blessed is the one who consider the poor, which God takes care the poor, so have mercy to all poor!
Psalmist prayed to the Lord heal his sick, for he confessed that he sinned against God and because of his integrity.
How?
Be happy to help the needy, in time of need.
Pray to the Lord for the illness recovery, 1)Did I confess my sins and 2)Am I a integrity man.

May all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you
Psalm 40:1-18
Heartfelt praise and prayer
Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods.
Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but my ears you have pierced; burnt offerings and sing offering you did not require.
v7 Then I said, 'Here I am, I have come - it is written about me in the scroll. v8 I desire to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.
I do not conceal your love and your truth from the great assembly.
Pray to the Lord for his salvation and protection to me. May all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who love your salvation always say," The Lord be exalted."
Yet I am poor and needy may the Lord think of me.
The psalmist has openly declared God's marvellous dealings with him.
He looks back to the moment of rescue with deep thankfulness, and spells out for others the things he has learned about God. But his troubles are not yet over.
He is still conscious of his need. And he appeals afresh to God for help.
The New Testament sees a deeper significance in this psalm, especially verses 7-8 (Hebrews 10:5-7). Here is talked by Jesus Christ.
Why?
Psalmist prayed to the Lord to save him, and he humbled himself, he was poor and needy.

God love our heart turn to him and keep his word within my heart, sacrifice and offering are not God desires.
We have to proclaim God's love and name at any time and place. His name is exalted!

Each man's life is but a breath
Psalm 39:1-13
Our little life
Keep my tongue from sin; I will put a muzzle on my mouth as long as the wicked are in my presence.
But when I was silent and still, not even saying anything good my anguish increased.
O Lord, you have made my days a mere handbreadth, the span of my years is as nothing before you. Each man's life is but a breath.
God rebukes and disciplines men for their sin; consume their wealth like a moth.
I was silent; I would not open my mouth, for you are the one who has done this.
Look away from me, that I may rejoice again before I depart and am no more.
The psalmist struggles to contain his thoughts, for fear of dishonouring God, but they burst out.
He feels death at his shoulder; life as insubstantial as a puff of wind.(單薄)
And he cries out to God to reassure and forgive him, and to remove his troubles.
Why?
Angry and Judge are useless to the wicked.
Pray to the Lord if all of this are the Lord who has done this, then I will keep silent. But forgive me that I may rejoice again before I depart from this world. It is a reality pray.
Each man's life in the world like a breath is light and short.
I am nothing if the Lord does not with me.
Keep silent and keep tongue from sin. It is good to us. Pray to the Lord when I am anguish.
How?
Keep my tongue from sin and fear the Lord!

Those who seek my life set their traps, those who would harm me talk of my ruin; all day long they plot deception.
I wait for you, O Lord, you will answer, O Lord my God. David asked to the Lord for help.

Wait for the Lord and keep his way
Psalm 37:1-40
Good and evil
Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.
Refrain from anger and turn from wrath. Those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land.
The wicked borrow and do not repay, but the righteous give generously.
Wait for the Lord and keep his way. He will exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are cut off you will see it.
The salvation of the righteous comes from the Lord; he is their stronghold in time of trouble.
It is a collection of the proverbial sayings that the wisdom writers loved and according to which, no matter how things look, the good will prosper, the wicked be punished.
Wherever you look, people are flagrantly disobeying God's law, and getting away with it. Don't e tempted to envy them, says the psalmist. Things are not what they seem.
The wicked are in a far from enviable position. Their time will soon up, but blessing and security await God's people. Go on doing good; be patient: trust God to act.
Why?
Commit my way to the Lord, don't think I am wise, God's way always better than mine.
Wait for the Lord with hope, do not angry or envy the prosper of wicked one, the wicked will be cut off, things are far away what they seem.
How?
Wait for the Lord and keep his way, be patient: trust God to act.

Psalm 36:1-12
God's unfailing love
Praise the Lord, your love reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.

Condifent that God is on the right side
Psalm 35:1-28
May those who seek my life be disgraced and put to shame; May all who gloat over my distress be put to shame and confusion.
Since ruthless witnesses come forward; they question me on things I know nothing about. they repay me evil for good and leave my soul forlorn. They hid their net for me without cause and without cause dug a pit for me.
Who is like you, O Lord, You rescue the poor from those too strong for them, the poor and needy from those who rob them.
I will give you thanks in the great assembly; among throngs of people I will praise you.
My tongue will speak of your righteousness and of your praises all day long.
Confident that right is on his side, the psalmist calls on God to pay back his enemies in their own coin and clear his good name.
Then he will praise God and tell others of his righteousness.
Why?
Psalmist pray to the Lord help him, release from the attack and save his life from his enemies.
Ruthless witness and enemy always question on things we know nothing about. attack righteous man without cause, only they have different mind or political position. People need more compassion and love in this generation.
God is my salvation and my hope, I will speak his righteous and praise the Lord all day long.
Under distress or suffering attack from enemies without cause is very angry and helpless. God is my savior and my fortress, He listen to my prayer. Confident that God is on the right side.
How?
God is on the right side, but may be not on my side, repent my sin to the Lord and pray to the Lord, who is the living God, my only hope. I will praise God all day long.

The promise to those who fear the Lord
Psalm 34:1-22
God's care fro his people
Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.
Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.
Fear the Lord, for those who fear him lack nothing.
Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking lies. Then you may love life and desires to see many good days.
A righteous man may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all he protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken.
A man with such a story to tell of God's faithfulness cannot help sharing it. He owes it to God and his fellow believers.
In the psalmist's experience, the person who honours God finds life.
His misfortunes may be many, but God brings him through them all.
Why?
Look to the Lord is glory, radiant and praise him my soul will rejoice for his name.
The Lord is a living God, everyone may taste and see that how great our Lord is.
Keep out tongue from evil and speak with wisdom may save my life and keep away from troubles.
Righteous man may have trouble, for God will test us and encourage us to increase our faith to the Lord.
How?
Fear the Lord, for those who fear him lack nothing. I do not worry about tomorrow for the Lord is my shield, my shepherd, my provider.

We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield
Psalm 33:1-22
The word of the Lord is right and true; he is faithful in all he does.
The plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.
From his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth.
No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength. A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save. But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, and keep them alive in famine.
We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name.
Turn up the instruments. Sing for joy and burst into song.
Look, hear, what God has done! Sing God's praises for who he is.
Worship the Creator and stand in awe of him.
Praise his sovereign rule in human affairs - his unfailing care for all who honour him.
Sing a song of trust in him.
Why?
God's word is right and true, for his word, his plan stand firm forever.
No one can escape from the eyes of the Lord, everyone has to face final judgement before the Lord.
Victory belongs to the Lord, God save those who fear him. Strength and power are belong to the Lord also.
Let wait for the Lord in hope for he is our help and our shield.

Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven
Psalm 32:1-11
Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.
I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. Everyone who is godly pray to you while you may be found; surely when the mighty waters rise, they will not reach him.
Many are the woe of the wicked, but the Lord's unfailing love surrounds the man who trusts in him.
This is the second of the seven 'repenting' psalms; Psalm 6, 32, 38, 51, 102, 130, 143
Guilt suppressed becomes an intolerable(無法忍受) burden. Confession and forgiveness bring a joyous lightness of heart, the relief of it.
Out of his own experience the psalmist encourages others to pray to God with confidence.
Why?
Sins are covered and transgressions are forgiven is the blessing more than any others, like the debt is erased. Not burden, who is free from slave.
Pray to the Lord and confess my sins now, when the day is come, no one can find the Lord. The mighty water will destroy the whole land.
How wonderful to one who trusts in Him, Lord's unfailing love surrounds him, blesses him.
How?
I will praise your name and proclaim your mighty all my life, O Lord!

Sing praises to the Lord. For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime
Psalm 30:1-12
Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints, and give thanks to to his holy name. For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime.
By your favor , you made my mountain stand strong; you hid your face I was dismayed.
Turned for me my mourning into dancing; Loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness.
Weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.
他的怒氣不過是轉眼之間;他的恩典乃是一生之久。一宿雖然有哭泣,早晨便必歡呼
The events in 1 Chronicles 21 may possibly provide the background to this psalm. It is written for the dedication of the Temple.
The dark days and tearful nights when life was in danger are past; joy has returned with the daylight. Easy times bred self-reliance.
But this experience has put life into perspective and shown the psalmist his own helplessness.
Now that the danger is behind him - a humbler and wiser man - he gladly and openly acknowledges his debt of gratitude to God.
Why?
There are trouble and suffering in our life, but it is short for God's mercy and favor is for a lifetime. I shall never moved.
God can turn my mourning into dancing, loosed my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness. God is the Almighty God, sing praise to the Lord.
How?
Sing praises to the Lord! For his Holy name!
Pray to the Lord don't hide face from me or I will dismay!

Psalm 29:1-11
Ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
Ascribe to(歸於) the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness.
The voice of the Lord: powerful, full of majesty, breaks the cedars, flashes forth flames of fire, shakes the wilderness, make the deer give birth, strips the forests bare.
The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the Lord sits enthroned as king forever.
In the torrent of rain, the ear-splitting thunderclaps, the blaze of lightning, the roaring wind that sets the great forests in motion, the psalmist not only sees God's matchless power but hears God's voice.
For God made and orders them all.
Let the hosts of heaven sing his glory - and may God bless his people on earth
The style of this psalm, with its rhythmic repetition(重複節奏), is close to that of ancient Canaanite as well as early Hebrew poetry.
Why?
The glory and strength belong to the Lord, ascribe all honor to the Lord for his name is holy, his name is over all name above the earth.
Worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness, so everyone comes to the Lord should be with holiness heart and mind.
The voice of the Lord is power, can do anything, we should fear the Lord and obey his word.
The sits enthroned over the flood, no matter what happened the Lord is the king forever. Even like the flood destroy anything on the earth, the Lord is sovereign Lord.

Praise be to the Lord, for he has heard my cry for mercy
Psalm 28:1-9
Pray and its answer
Hear my cry for mercy as I call to you for help.
Repay them for their deeds and for their evil work; repay them for what their hands have done and bring back on them what they deserve.
Praise be to the Lord, for he has heard my cry for mercy.
The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him. The Lord is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one.
God is his people's strength and fortress of salvation. He is not only David's God, but to all anointed men.
Danger leads to a cry for help. And a plea for the punishment of those evil people who are the source of the trouble.
Prayer turns to praise at the assurance that God has heard and answered.
Why?
Pray to the Lord for help even I am nothing, but because of God's mercy.
Pray to the Lord for help and angry to the evil one, so pray to the Lord repay them for their deeds. It is not repay them by my way but by God's way.
God is my strength, and shield: it is the power to live and protection from attack of enemy.
How?

Psalm 27:1-14
Trust and commitment to God

One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord an to inquire in his temple.
Give me not up to the will of my adversaries for false witnesses have risen against me, and they breathe out violence.
I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living!
Those whose priorities are right have nothing to fear.
They know where to turn in trouble and their hope is well founded. The Hebrew title says this lovely psalm, springing out of a deep heart hunger for God, is 'by David'.

Integrity, faithfulness and trusted in the Lord without wavering
Psalm 26:1-12
Vindicate me, O Lord!
I do
Walked in my integrity, have trusted in the Lord without wavering.
Walk in your faithfulness.
Proclaiming thanksgiving aloud
Telling all your wondrous deeds
I do not or hate
Sit with men of falsehood
consort with hypocrites
the assembly of evildoers
sit with the wicked.
Pray : do not sweep my soul away with sinners, not my life with bloodthirsty men.
The psalmist is not claiming perfection but a consistent life of trust and obedience to God.
He calls on God to acquit(開釋) him of false charges. Compare this self-portrait with the first part of Psalm 1.
Why?
A christian needs to do something and not do something. Do the good things and right deed, but hate false, evildoers, even don't sit with those wicked. No negotiate with them.
David pray to the Lord save him and vindicate him, for he has done all he can, please test and check his mind and his heart. Integrity is a good character of a man.

My hope is in you all day long
Psalm 25:1-22
No one whose hope is in you will ever be put to shame.
Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.
Who, then, is the man that fears the Lord? He will instruct him in the way chosen for him.
Guard my life and rescue me; let me not be put to shame, for I take refuge in you.
May integrity and uprightness protect me, because my hope is in you.
The psalmist is harassed by the incessant attack of his enemies, and disquieted in his own conscience. Deeply aware of his need, he turns to God for help and guidance, asking to experience again his love and forgiveness.
Why?
Integrity: 廉正

Clean hands and a pure heart
Psalm 24:1-10
Who may ascend the hill of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to an idol or swear by what is false.
Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle. The Lord Almighty - he is the King of glory.
This psalm is a processional hymn, possibly written for that great occasion in David's life when the Ark was first carried into Jerusalem.
The whole world and everything in it is God's. Who then is worthy to stand in his presence? The answer would lead to despair if God were not ' the God of Jacob' - that mixed-up, twisted character God chose to become the founder of Israel.
The Ark is at the gates: open the doors for God himself to enter and own!
Why?
Clean hands and pure heart is an honest man. No give up to an idol and speak in truth is the requirement to be blessed from the Lord Almighty.
Lift up your heads, O you gates. Come focus on the Lord, lift up you head, my hope is in the Lord.
How?
My Lord is mighty God, everything in the world is belong to God. Be an honest Christian. Glory be to the Lord!

Dwelling in the house of the Lord forever
Psalm 23:1-6
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
He make me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters.
He restore my soul. He guide me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear not evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint me head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
This best-known, best-loved of all psalms pictures God, the Good Shepherd. He provides all that his people need.
He leads them through life. He secures them from all harm.
Verse 5 introduces a second picture: God, the perfect host, feasting his people with good things, And it goes further: because 'in the Old Testament world, to eat and drink at someone's table created a bond of loyalty' the picture is not simply of a guest but of a friend.
Why?
The Lord is my shepherd, he will provide me everything I need, God loves me.
God make me rest and peace and comfort my soul.
God's training, guidance and punishment comfort me and turn me on the right way.
God's protection is full so I won't shaken and fear.
Deepest darkness has generally been taken to mean death: hence 'vally of the shadow of death'

The poor will eat and be satisfied
Psalm 22:21-31
For he has not despised or disdained the suffering of the afflicted one; he has not hidden his face from him but has listened to his cry for help. Jesus love everyone.
The poor will eat and be satisfied; they who seek the Lord will praise him - may your hearts live forever! Financial poor and spiritual poor, humble one.
For dominion belongs to the Lord and he rules over the nations. He is the sovereign Lord!
The final prayer bring new inward assurance, expressed in open praise.
If, at the deepest level, the early verses of Psalm 22 speak of Christ's suffering, surely the closing verses speak of the worldwide deliverance he made possible.
Why?
David received the inspiration from Holy Spirit so he can write these Psalm to described his suffering and Christ's suffering.
Spiritual poor, be humble, then will be satisfied from the Lord.
It is the promise that those who seek the Lord will praise him.
How?
Seek the Lord and be humble before Jesus Christ! Praise his Holy name!

Lord is my Strength, my hope and joy
Psalm 22:11-20
Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet. I can count all my bones; people stare and gloat over me. They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing.
But you, O Lord, be not far off; O my Strength, come quickly to help me.
David vividly described the situation what he was and corresponding to the situation of Jesus Christ on the cross.
Why?
That feeling of desertion by God becomes a terrible reality for Jesus, enduring the crushing, suffocating(令人窒息) weight of human sin which tears him apart, seeming to sever the essential unity of Father and Son.
The psalmist's own situation alternates with hope - hope that springs out (湧出)of every recollection of God's past dealings with him.
Those evil men like dogs, they are crowded and noise maker.
God is my strength, my hope and my joy!
How?
Pray to the Lord, He is my hope and my Strength!

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Psalm 22:1-10
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Jesus said this word on the cross also. David was in misery so he cried out to the Lord.
David humble himself that he is not a man but a worm, he was scorned by men and despised by the people.
They mock him, "He trusts in the Lord; let the Lord rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him."
From birth I was cast upon you; from my mother's womb you have been my God.
Hebrew title 'by David', Kidner calls this "The psalm of the cross", because Jesus used the opening words to cry his anguish on the cross. The experience goes far beyond David's own, describing not an illness but what would appear to be ' an execution'. The terms in which the sufferer's agony of mind and body are described became an extraordinarily precise description of Jesus' last hours
Why?
Men do not trust in the Lord so they mock David and Jesus Christ. So Christian will be scorned by people.
From birth I was cast upon you, even I was trusted in Jesus when I was 29, but I knew from birth I belong to the Lord. God had chosen me as his inheritance.
Suffering and waiting is lesson to our faith, God won't forsake me. I trust in Him.
How?
Trust in the Lord, God is my fortress and my shepherd. I will not shaken for my God is live.
