God makes me holy, so I should keep God's decrees and follow them

Leviticus 20:1-27
Sacrificing his children to Molek, he has defiled my sanctuary and profaned my holy name.
A man or woman who is a medium or spiritist among you must be put to death.
Keep my decrees and follow them. I am the Lord, who makes you holy.
V 6-21: list the penalties for disobedience to laws in chapter 18 and 19.
That such a wide range of offences should be punishable by death seems incredibly harsh to the modern reader. (Where we remove wrongdoers from the community by putting them in prison, these laws remove them by death: a kind of moral/judicial surgery.)
All-it is worth nothing - are in deliberate defiance (蔑視) of God's holy law, or offences against people; none relate to property.
How?
For the custom in Canaan were worse and human personality are bed so the Lord made judicial surgery to cut off all wrongdoer and let people fear the law.
A man with clean heart and righteous behavior keep society or community clean and peace. Love make society has joy.
How?
Keep God's decrees and follow them, for He is the Lord, He makes me holy.

Love your neighbor as yourself.

Leviticus 19:15-37
Rebuke your neighbor frankly(坦率地說) so you will not share in their guilt.
Love your neighbor as yourself.
Do not eat any meat with the blood still in it.
Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves.
When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them.
God wants to see honestly, fair dealing, impartial justice: God cares if wage are delays.
He calls his people to respect life and reputation.
God is also concerned for the natural world, how we care for his creation.
Patience while a tree is immature means better long-term yield.
V26b-31 These are all heaven practices.
Why?
Aggressive to do something is needed, not only do not do some laws.
Respect life and reputation and love your neighbor as yourself is the principle of those decrees of the Lord.
How?
Love your neighbor as yourself.

Reflect God's holiness, but fear your God

Leviticus 19:1-14
1. Respect your mother and father, observe Sabbaths
2. Do not turn to idols or make gods of cast metal for yourselves.
3. Eaten on the day you sacrifice fellowship offering or on the next day. Do not eat it on the third day.
4. Left some to the poor when reap harvest of your land.
5. Do not lie, deceive
6. Do not swear falsely by God's name
7. Do not defraud(騙取) your neighbor
8. Do not hold back the wages of a hired man overnight.
9. Do not curse the deaf or put a stumbling block in front of the blind
But fear your God.
This chapter echoes the Ten Commandments.
Mose law are forbidden to do, but respect parent and care the poor are enouraged to make it.
Why?
God's holiness, the holiness we are to reflect, shows itself in concern for the underprivileged(弱勢): God cares about the poor.
How?
Fear the Lord and obey God's commandments, reflect God's holiness.

He is my God, do not defile the land where I am living

Leviticus 18:1-30
I am the Lord your God. Do not follow any of the detestable customs that were practiced before you came and do not defile yourselvess with them. If your defile the land, it will vomit you out as it vomited out the nations that were before.
There are many unlawful sexual relations have been done in Canaan.
Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable.
Keep my decrees and laws, for the man who obeys them will live by them.
From what we know of Canaanite and Egyptian religions it is clear that many of these laws are directed against the specific practices of Israel's neighbours.
Marriage between those closely related by blood or by marriage is forbidden in Israel. In Egypt, which had no marriage-laws, such marriages were common.
Adultery, child-sacrifice, homosexual relations, bestiality were all pat of the indescribably debased religions of Canaan. Israel is to shun behaviour which is bringing God's judgment on the land.
V18 Jacob had done just this, and it led to great unhappiness.
V22 Among the ancient Egyptians and Canaanites sexual activity was almost deified: cultic(邪教) prostitutes were called 'holy ones' and homosexual practice and female prostitution were bound up with religious worship.
Why?
Fear the angry of the Lord, honor God's name, appreciate his salvation so we must obey his decrees and laws. It is good to us, we may live by them.
How?
He is the Lord, He is my God, do not defile the land where I am living.

Blood - pays the price of another's freedom

Leviticus 17:1-16
Any Israelite who sacrifices an ox, a lamb or a goat in the camp or outside of it. instead of bringing it to the entrance to the tent of meeting to present it as an offering to the Lord in front of the tabernacle of the Lord—that person shall be considered guilty of bloodshed.
The Lord said to them: "I will set my face against any Israelite or any foreigner residing among them who eats blood, and I will cut them off from the people. For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar."
One who hunts any animal or bird that may be eaten must drain out the blood and cover it with earth, because the life of every creature is its blood.
The context is one in which the killing of domestic animals is thought of as a kind of sacrifice. so as a safeguard against sacrificing to the demons of desert places, all sacrifice must be offered in the proper place, and to the proper Person.
Why?
Because the life of every creature is its blood, and blood is used to make atonement for Israelite on the altar.
Offering is job of priests so anyone can not present offering to the Lord by himself.
Blood - that is the life laid down/poured out in death - which makes reparation(賠償): the animal 'stands in' as substitute for the offender. One precious life, forfeit(被沒收), pays the price of another's freedom. For Christians, the connection with the atoning death of Christ is inescapable.
How?
Respect life in the world, for the blood is the life of a creature.

Leviticus is fulfilled in Christ

Leviticus 16:23-34
This is to be a lasting ordinance for you: On the tenth day of the seventh month you must deny yourselves and not do any work—whether native-bornor a foreigner residing among you— because on this day atonement will be made for you, to cleanse you. Then, before the Lord, you will be clean from all your sins.
Atonement is to be made once a year for all the sins of the Israelites.
So year after year, Israel was reminded of the sin which cut them off from God's presence - of the need for atonement to bring forgiveness and restore relations.
The New Testament Letter to the Hebrews sees Leviticus fulfilled in Christ.
The trappings(服飾,外部標誌) of the first covenant are 'symbolic, pointing to the present time'. Christ, the high priest of the 'new covenant', has entered, not a 'sactuary made by human hands', but 'heaven itself, to appear before God on our behalf', appearing 'once for all at the climax(高潮) of history to abolish sin by the sacrifice of himself'.
Outside camp: Neither offering might be eaten, since no one was to eat any of his own sin-offering, and Aaron identities himself with the people in their sin-offering.
How?
Jesus Christ is my Savior and this is an everlasting good news to all men.

The annual Day of Atonement for the nation

Leviticus 16:1-22
Aaron is not to come whenever he chooses into the Most Holy Place behind the curtain in front of the atonement cover on the ark, or he will die.
Aaron is to enter the sanctuary area: with a young bull for a sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering.
From the Israelite community he is to take two male goats for a sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering.
Aaron is to offer the bull for his own sin offering to make atonement for himself and his household.
The two goats one for the Lord and the other for the scapegoat- the goat of removal, to be used for making atonement by sending it into the desert as a scapegoat.
Aaron is to take a censer full of burning coals from the altar before the Lord and two handfuls of finely ground fragrant incense and take the behind the curtain. The smoke of the incense will conceal the atonement cover above the Testimony, so that he will not die.
The tenth day of the seventh month was to be the annual Day of Atonement for the nation. Only on this occasion was Aaron allowed into the innermost part of God's Tent.
Why?
Azazel: A place in the wilderness to which the scapegoat was sent, symbolically carrying away the sins of Israel. The meaning is uncertain, but it cannot refer to an offering to a demon, as some suggest, for this was strictly forbidden.
How?
Jesus Christ once be sacrificed on the cross then the atonement is made for ever to all who believes in Jesus Christ and repent to his own sins.

Separate from uclean things

Leviticus 15:16-33
A man has an emission of semen, he must bathe his whole body whit water, and he will be unclean till evening.
When a woman has her regular flow of blood, the impurity of her monthly period will last seven days, and anyone who touches her will be unclean till evening.
When a woman has a discharge of blood for many days at a tome other than her monthly period , she will be unclean as long as she has the discharge.
Keep the Israelites separate from things that make them unclean, so they will not die in their uncleanness for defiling my dwelling place which is among you.
Clean and unclean: The male ejection of semen, and female menstruation(經期), rendered a man or woman ritually unclean, Neither was sinful in itself and there was no need for sacrifice.
In later Judaism, only the rules concerning menstruation continued, effectively barring women from worship or contact with men at that time.
In Christ, these restrictions no longer apply; no woman should be afraid to read the Bible and join in worship at such a time.
Why?
For God was dwelling with Israelites so God ordered them have to separate from things that make them unclean.
How?
Jesus is my savior and let us free from many regulations.

Keep our body outside and inside clean are necessary

Leviticus 15:1-15
Any man has an unusual bodily discharge, such a discharge is unclean.
If the man with the discharge spits on anyone who is clean, they must wash their clothes and bathe with water, and they will be unclean till evening.
When a man is cleansed from his discharge, he is to count off seven days for his ceremonial cleansing. On the eighth day he must take two doves or two young pigeons and come before the Lord to the entrance to the tent of meeting and give them to the priest.
Why?
Regulations are given for both normal and abnormal, possibly malignant (惡性) discharges. Washing is prescribed both to prevent infection and to sterilize(消毒).
Seven days for observing and the eighth day could be atonement through the priest.
How?
Take bath everyday is good to prevent infection and sterilize. Keep our body outside and inside both clean is necessary.

Keep away from defiling things

Leviticus 14:33-57
Cleansing from defiling molds, mildew.
Anyone who goes into the house while it is closed up will be unclean till evening. Anyone who sleeps or eats in the house must wash their clothes.
To purify the house he is to take two birds and some cedar wood, scarlet yarn and hyssop.
These are the regulations for defiling skin diseases and defiling molds.
Hyssop: A herb, possibly marjoram, containing a mild antiseptic(防腐劑).
Why?
The regulation to the disease, house and clothing are setting healthy living environment.
Cleansing house need effort to make it, but it is necessary for our living. Same as we excluding sins from our life need effort to make it.
How?
Keep away from the sin and anything may lead us from God.

Offerings for a defiling skin disease

Leviticus 14:21-32
The regulations for anyone who has a defiling skin disease and who cannot afford the regular offerings for their cleansing.
They are poor and cannot afford these, they must take one male lamb as a guilt offering to be waved to make atonement for them, together with a tenth of an ephah of the finest flour mixed with olive oil for a grain offering, a log of oil, 22 and two doves or two young pigeons, such as they can afford, one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering.
Why?
There are needed to prepare the guilt offering, grain offering, sin offering and burnt offering to make atonement for a man cleansing.
Confess his sins and accept Jesus Christ as his Lord and offer grain offering, burnt offering to show his heart and himself as sacrifice. It is the progress to be a Christian.
How?
Keep me be Holy before the Lord.

Repent to the sin and accept the blessing from the Lord

Leviticus 14:1-20
Cleansing from infectious skin diseases.
Two live birds and some cedar wood, scarlet yarn and hyssop be brought for the one to be cleansed.
On the eight day he must bring two male lambs and one ewe lamb a year old, along with three-tenths of an ephah of fine flour mixed with oil for a grain offering , and one log of oil. The priest who pronounces him clean.
The priest is to take some of the blood of the guilt offering and put it on the lobe of the right ear of the one to be cleansed, on the thumb of his right hand and on  on the big toe of his right foot.
The priest shall take some of the log of oil, pour it in the palm of his own left hand, dip his right forefinger into the oil in his palm, and with his finger sprinkle some of it before the Lord 7 times. The priest is to put some of the oil remaining in his pal on the lobe of the right ear of the one to be cleansed, on the thumb of his right hand and on the big toe of his right foot, on the top of the blood of the guilt offering. The rest of the oil in his pal the priest shall put on the head of the one to be cleanses.
Why?
We have a similar system of house inspection and treatment for dry rot today.
Cedarwoord contains a sustance used in medicine for skin diseases.
First blood then the oil means erase the sin and blessing to the one to be cleansed.
How?
Oil means Holy spirit, his mercy and grace pour down to us. It is the blessing from the Lord. Repent to the sin and accept the blessing through Jesus.

Regulations concerning contamination by mildew

Leviticus 13:29-59
Itch: yellow hair in it and to be more than skin deep, an infection disease of the head or chin, it is unclean. It could be healed by our own immunity system.
If he has a reddish-white sore on his bald head or forehead, it is an infections disease breaking out on his head. Priest shall pronounce him unclean.
Regulations concerning contamination by mildew.
Clothing is contaminated with mildew for seven days, the article must be burned up.
If the mildew has not spread in the clothing, the contaminated article be washed.
If the mildew has not changed its appearance, it is unclean burn it with fire.
As far as clothing and building are concerned, the 'disease' is a mildew or fungus(菌).
How?
Keep us clean in clothing and living environment is good to our health.

Idenify the infection disease

Leviticus 13:1-28
Infection disease: the hair in the sore has turned white and the sore appears to be more than skin deep. if turned white but does not appear to be more than skin deep, the priest is to put the infected person in isolation for 7 days or more 7 days to examine him. 發炎不會感染,細菌型皮膚必須傷口對傷口才會感染。If there is raw flesh in the swelling, it is a chronic skin disease大痳風and the priest shall pronounce him unclean.
The raw flesh is unclean; he has an infectious disease, if the sores have turned white, the priest shall pronounce the infected person clean.
Boil on his skin and it heals, and in the place where the boil was a white selling or reddish-white spot appears. The Priest is to examine it, it appears to be more than skin deep and the hair in it has turned white, it is unclean.

Although the word 'leprosy' is used throughout in many versions, true leprosy is only one of the skin diseases mentioned here. Here is written in technical jargon(行話) - a professional textbook on diagnosis for the priest-physician, enabling him to distinguish between 'acute' and 'chronic' forms of the various diseases. This is the earliest formulation of quarantine regulations and preventive medicine relating to these diseases so far recovered from the ancient Near East.
Why?
Distinguish the true disease of skin or not is a technician. Let the disease do not spread in the camp of Israelite.
How?
Keep us living in clean environment and keep away eat or touch unclean matter.

Purified stand in present of the Lord

Leviticus 12:1~8
woman who becomes pregnant and gives birth to a son will be ceremonially unclean for seven days, just as she is unclean during her monthly period. On the eighth day the boy is to be circumcised. Then the woman must wait thirty-three days to be purified from her bleeding.
Woman who gives birth to a daughter will be unclean two weeks and she must wait sixty-six days to be purified from her bleeding.
The rule of strict cleanliness in all sexual matter's good to all sexual matters was positive safeguard to health.
Why?
The  difference in time for a son and a daughter probably due to the believe that there was longer discharge of blood after a
 daughter.
It is not the birth but discharge which make woman who becomes pregnant and gives birth to a son will be ceremonially unclean for seven days, just as she is unclean during her monthly period. On the eighth day the boy is to be circumcised. Then the woman must wait thirty-three days to be purified from her bleeding unclean in term of offering purity of worship to God with no pollutant.
In Christ such disqualification no longer signify. His perfect sacrifice render the believing man and woman forgiven and fit to stand in his present at any time.
How?
Christ is the Lord, let us could be purified before the God through his blood.

Consecrate yourselves and be holy

Leviticus 11:29-47
Do not defile yourselves by means of them or be made unclean by them. I am the Lord your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy.
Do not make yourselves unclean by any creature that moves about on the ground.
V 32-4- set out measures to prevent contamination of food and water supplies. Similar principles govern present day public health regulations.
Keep my heart be pure and clean, everything is started from heart.
How?
Consecrate myself be holy, because God is holy.

Clean and unclean food

Leviticus 11:1-28
All the animals that live on land, these are ones you may eat: that has a split hoof completely divided and that chews the cud.
Defined ceremonially unclean animals and must not eat them. Such as camel, coney(rock badger), rabbit.
All the creatures living in the water of the sea and the streams, you may eat any that have fins and scales.
Defined some birds are to detest and not eat because they are detestable.
Whoever touches their carcasses will be unclean till evening. And must wash his clothes.
Today we can see past the detail of some of these laws to appreciate the sound principles of diet, hygiene and medicine which many of them express. God works in and through the processes he has built into the natural world.
The rules for the nations diet are clearly framed: borderline cases are excluded.
Israel may ear:

  • Animals which chew the cud and have cloven hoofs.
  • Sea creatures with both fins and scales
  • Birds not listed as forbidden
  • Insects belonging to four classes of the locust family.

Amongst those banned are:

  • Carnivorous(肉食性) animals  (these readily transmit infection in a warm climate where flesh decays rapidly.)
  • Pork (especially dangerous in this respect:this is the reason for the old British saying. "Only eat pork when there's and "r" in the month' - when it's cold). Pigs are also hosts to various parasites(寄生蟲).
  • Vermin(害蟲) and predatory(掠奪) birds
  • Shellfish (these are still a common cause of food-poisoning and enteritis腸炎.)

How?
God work into the living of Israelite when they did not know what food is good to them. God is good!

God's holiness requires absolute respect from those who serve him

Leviticus 10:1-20
The death of Nadab an Abihu. Because they took their censers, put fir in them and added incense; and they offered unauthorized fire before the Lord.
Aaron and his sons do not let your fair become unkempt and do not tear our clothes, or your will die and the Lord will be angry with the whole community. Do not leave the entrance to the Tent of Meeting or your will die, because the Lord's anointing oil is on you.
Moses said to Aaron offer grain offering and eat it in a holy place,
The rejoicing short-lived. In no time Aaron's sons Nadab and Abihu are deciding to do things their way; and God meets fire with fire, reducing the preiesthood to three.
Perhaps they were under the influence of drink.
Whatever the reason, God's holiness requires absolute respect from those who serve him. His commands are meant to be obeyed, not tailored to suit anyone's fancy
Uncombed hair and torn clothes are signs of mourning.
God's priests are to avoid the excesses of Canaan, where drunkenness went along with religious rites.
The people's sin-offering should have been eaten by the priests in the sanctuary area as a sign that God accepted the offering - Aaron's excuse is not clear, but Moses accepts it.
Why?
The background of the righteousness is mercy of the Lord.
It is the motion of human being(人情世故), God knows the heart of Aaron.
There is the duty to the Lord, so Aaron have to give up the mourn to his sons, this is the duty before the Lord, there is the blessing under this duty.
How?
God's holiness requires absolute respect from those who serve him. No any excuse or whatever the reason.

Three steps to be a priest of the Lord

Leviticus 9:1-24
The Priests begin their ministry. Aaron and sons take office.
On the eight day, Aaron took a bull calf for his sin offering and a ram for his burnt offering.
Israelites took male goat for sin offering and a calf and a lamb for burnt offering and a grain offering mixed with oil for the glory of the Lord may appear to them. They did as Moses said.
Fire came out from the presence of the Lord and consumed the burnt offering and the fat portions on the altar. And when all the people saw it, they shouted for joy and fell face down.
The order of their first sacrifices is significant:
1. A sin-offering: obtaining cleansing and forgiveness.
2. A burnt-offering of dedication to God.
3. A peace-offering: fellowship and communion with God is restored and enjoyed.
Why?
This fire show that HE is the Lord, He is God.
Priests have to be sacrificed and so as to the Israelite, so the God may present before them.
Job of the Priest is to make sacrifice of the sin offering for people and blessed them.
Fire symbolizes the God.
How?
Servant of God, three steps, 1) cleansing and forgiveness 2)dedication to God 3) restoring fellowship and communion with God.

Ordination offering

Leviticus 8:22-36
Ordination offering of Aaron and his sons
Moses slaughtered the ram and took some of its blood and put it on the lobe of Aaron’s right ear, on the thumb of his right hand and on the big toe of his right foot.
Moses took them and burned them one the altar on top of the burnt of burnt offering as an ordination offering. Moses' share of the ordination ram - and waved it before the Lord as a wave offering.
Moses took some of the anointing oil and some of the blood from the altar and sprinkled them on Aaron and his garments and on his sons and their garments. So he consecrated Aaron and his sons.
Cook the meat at the entrance to the tent of Meeting and eat it there with the bread from the basket of ordination offering. Aaron and his sons are to eat it. Then burn up the rest of the meat and the bread.
Why?
The blood on Aaron's ear, hand and toe indication of the whole man to God's service, to hear and carry out God's instructions.
Those meat and bread are sacrificed so it won't share to others.
How?
Servant of the Lord needs to hear God's word and carry out God's instructions.

Priesthood

Leviticus 8:1-21
Moses consecrate them, sprinkled some of the oil on the altar seven times, all garment and utensils and the basin with its stand, etc.
Moses did burnt offering for Aaron and his sons, as the Lord commanded Moses.
Now the priest's sacrificial duties have been listed, Moses implements the instructions given in Exodus 29. In an elaborate and impressive ritual Aaron and his sons are instituted to the priesthood.
Mose performs the priestly duties on their behalf.
Why?
Moses did what the Lord commanded him. The honest servant of the Lord!
To be a priest have to be consecreted whole body and heart, mind. Clean the body is easy, but clean the heart and mind are more difficult, unless the help of Holy Spirit.
How?
Separate from the world, clean my heart, my mind and be an honest servant of the Lord.

The Priests’ Share

Leviticus 7:28-38

The Priests’ Share

From the fellowship offerings of the Israelites, I have taken the breast that is waved and the thigh that is presented and have given them to Aaron the priest and his sons as their perpetual share from the Israelites.
On the day they were anointed, the Lord commanded that the Israelites give this to them as their perpetual(永久) share for the generations to come.
These, then, are the regulations for the burnt offering, the grain offering, the sin offering, the guilt offering, the ordination(配合,按立) offering and the fellowship offering, which the Lord gave Moses at Mount Sinai in the Desert of Sinai on the day he commanded the Israelites to bring their offerings to the Lord.
Why?
God takes care the living of Priests who serve the Lord, part of the sacrifices from Israelite. So God's servant should take the wage from congregation, they should get the wage from God's people in church.
How?

God's servant has separated from the world and doing the holy things before the Lord, they should have not worry about their life, let them do their best to serve the Lord.

Fellowship offering of thanksgiving

Leviticus 7:1-27
Along with his fellowship offering of thanksgiving he is to present an offering with cakes of bread made with yeast. He is to bring one of each kind as an offering, a contribution to the Lord.
The meat of his fellowship offering of thanksgiving must be eaten on the day it is offered; he must leave none of it till morning.
Offering of a vow or is a freewill offering, the sacrifice shall be eaten on the day he offers it, and may be eaten on the next day. Any meat of the sacrifice left over till the third day must be burned up. Because of the healthy and the meat may spoiled, rotten.
Unclean people can not eat the meat of fellowship offering must be cut off from his people.
Do not eat any of the fat of cattle, sheep or goats.
Must not eat the blood of any bird or animal. Eating fat and blood forbidden.
Why?
You must not eat the fat: This 'choice' part of the animal was offered to God.
You must not eat the blood: the reason is give in 17:10-14 For the life of a creature is in the blood, the life of every creature is its blood.
Only thanksgiving the flour may be made with yeast.
How?
God made these regulation to care the health of his people. Do not ear blood is to respect the life that God created.

Regulation of the offerings

Leviticus 6:1-30
When he thus sins and becomes guilty, he must return what he has stolen or taken by extortion or what was entrusted to him, or the lost property he found, or whatever it was he swore falsely about. He must make restitution in full, add a fifth of the value to it and give it all to the owner on the day he presents his guilt offering.
Burnt offering:Every morning the priest is to add firewood and arrange the burnt offering on the fire and burn the fat of the fellowship offerings on it. The fire must be kept burning on the altar continuously.
Grain offering: This is the offering Aaron and his sons to bring to the Lord on the day he is anointed: a tenth of an ephah of fine flour as a regular grain offering, half of it in the morning and half in the evening. Every grain offering of a priest shall be burned completely; it must not be eaten.
Sin offering: The priest who  offers it shall eat it; it is to be eaten in a holy place, in the courtyard of the Tent of Meeting. But any sin offering whose blood is brought into the Tent of Meeting to make atonement in the Holy Place must not be eaten; it must be burned.
Why?
A tenth of an ephah of fine flour is about 2 liters.
Restitution(歸還) is not only full return, but add fifth of the value to it. It is the penalty to this sin.
Keep fire on the altar is the job of priests. Keep praise to the Lord.
How?
All these regulation were told to the Israelite, so as the words of God has told to us through Bible.

Guilt offering

Leviticus 5:1-19
Guilt offering:
Does not speak up when he hears a public charge to testify regarding something h has seen or learned about. Or touches anything ceremonially unclean, or touches human uncleanness, or thoughtlessly takes an oath to do anything, whether good or evil. When anyone is guilty in any of these ways, he must confess in what any he has sinned and a penalty for the sin he has committed. He must bring a female lamb or goat from the flock as a sin offering. Or he must bring two doves or two young pigeons to the Lord as a penalty for his sin, if he cannot afford two doves, he is to bring ten ephah of fine flour for a sin offering, and do not put oil or incense on it.
When a person commits a violation and sins unintentionally in regard to any of the Lord's holy things he is to bring to the Lord as a penalty a ram from the flock.
If a person sins and does what is forbidden in any of the Lord's commands, he is to bring to the priest as a guilt offering a ram from the flock.
There was a standard pattern of ritual. Worshippers brought their offering to the forecourt of God's Tent. They laid their hand on their offering, indicating that it was their property and substitute, and slaughtered it.
The priest took the basin of blood and spattered it against the altar. He burnt a specified part with certain portions of fat. The remainder was then eaten by the priests, or by the priests and their families, or by priests and worshippers together.
Sacrifice of some sort was almost universal practice amongst ancient peoples, and Israel's sacrifices have some similarities with those of their neighbours; Nonetheless, certain features are unique.
1. Israel's absolute mono theism - belief in the on true God
2. The emphasis on ethics and morality, stemming from God's own absolute moral holiness
3. the complete absence of associated practices in other religions; no magic or sorcery.
4. the high tone of the sacrificial system: no frenzy, or prostitution, orgies, fertility rites, human sacrifice, etc.
Why?
Guilt offering: People afford not so expensive or higher quality animal as sin offering.
Guilt offering are for those who unintentionally did something and committed it.
How?
God want us confess our sin and living in the right way in speaking, and touch something and completely follow God's commands.

Guilt offering to the community

Leviticus 4:22-35
Member of the community sins unintentionally and does what is forbidden in any of the Lord's commands, he is guilt. When he is make aware of the sin he committed, he must bring as his offering for the sin he committed a female goat without defect.
He may bring a lamb as his sin offering.
Generally speaking the sin-offering referred to offences against God, and the guilt-offering to social offences. (But even sin against others is seen as sin against God)
Why?
An aroma pleasing to the Lord: This is a human way of expressing God's satisfaction with the offering. The people knew God did not need to be fed by them - he was feeding them with manna.
How?
Sin must be erased for consequence of sin is dead and separated from the Lord.

The offering for unwitting sin

Leviticus 4:1-21
If the anointed priest sins, bringing guilt on the people, he must bring to the Lord a young bull without defect as a sin offering for the sin he has committed. Priest  is to lay his had on its head and slaughter it before the Lord.
If the whole Israelite community sins unintentionally and does what is forbidden in any of the Lord's commands, even though the community is unaware of the matter, they are guilt. When they become aware of the sin they committed, the assembly must bring a your bull as a sin offering and present it before the tent of Meeting. The elders of the community are to lay their hands on the bull's head before the Lord.
The hide of the bull and all its flesh, as well as the head and legs, the inner parts and offal(內臟) - all the rest of the bull- he must take outside the camp to a place ceremonially clean, where the ashes are thrown, and burn it in a wood fire on the ash heap.
Made in order to obtain forgiveness. The relationship between this and the guilt-offering is not clear.
Generally speaking the sin-offering seems to have referred to offences against God.
Why?
Even priest and community may sin unintentionally. But the Lord care about the sin no matter you aware it or unaware it. It has to confess the sin and repent, for God is holy.
God is live he knows that people will sin so God shown us the way to erase our sin, the solution is through Jesus Christ.
How?
God needs us to be a man aware of the sin and repent it.

Fellowship offering

Leviticus 3:1-17
The Followship offering my offer an animal from the herd, from the flocks and offering a goat.
He is to lay his hand on its head and slaughter it in front of the Tent of Meeting. Then Aaron's sons shall sprinkle it blood against the altar on all sides.
All the fat that covers the inner parts or is connected to them, both kidneys with the fat on them near the loins, and the covering of the liver, which he will remove with the kidneys. The priest shall burn them on the altar as food.
Re-establishing fellowship between the offerer and God, and binding the offerers together as a family and/or community as they feast together; or it could be a think-offering.
Why?
Offerer have to work with the priest, it means offerer has fellowship with the Lord.
Lay his hand on animal's head mean his sin is removed and transfer to the animal.
How?
Rebuild the followship between us and God is an important matter.

The cereal or grain offering

Leviticus 2:1-16
Priest take a handful of the fine flour and oil , together with all the incense, and burn this as a memorial portion on the altar.
The rest of the grain offering belongs to Aaron and his sons.
Bring grain offering is prepared on griddle, of pan, it is to be made of fine flour mixed with oil and without yeast.
Season all your grain offerings with salt. do not leave the salt of the covenant of your god out of your grain offerings; add salt to all your offerings.
Bring grain offering of first fruits to the Lord, offer crushed heads of new grain roasted in the fire. Put oil and incense on it.
Often an accompaniment to burnt - and peace-offerings.
Why?
Salt means the effect of permanent in New Testament.
God is holy so do not mix with yeast, Yeast means the evil or bias.
Do not mix with any dirty idea or mind in Christian's life.
Rest of grain offering can supply priests daily life.
How?
We are the salt of the earth and the light of the world.

Burnt offering: an aroma pleasing to the Lord

Leviticus 1:10-17
Offer flock, either the sheep or the goats, slaughter it at the north side of the altar before the Lord.
Bull, sheep and goat, the fat and head  and inner part are burn on the altar.
Offer a dove or young pigeon, it is to remove the crop with it contents and throw it to the east side of the altar.
Burnt offering, an offering made by fire, an aroma pleasing to the Lord.
The only one in which the whole animal was burnt; a token of dedication.
Leviticus is not much read by Christians today. A rule-book for the priests of ancient Israel would seem to have little more than curiosity value.
Yet God is holy still, and requires his people to be holy. Jesus' famous 'love your neighbour' saying comes from this book. Leviticus has much to say about proper care for the poor, the foreigner, the land.
And more important, the New Testament understanding of the death of Christ - dealing with our sins, standing in our place - draws deeply on concepts set out in Leviticus.
Why?
Offering animal must be cleaned by water, all need sprinkle blood against the altar on all sides. Atonement need blood replace our sin.
How?
Christian living in this world to show our life like aroma pleasing to the Lord.

Leviticus; God is Holy so we have to be distinct and different from around nations

Leviticus 1:1-9
Burnt offering: male herd or flock
Skin the burnt offering and cut into pieces. The sons of Aaron the priest are to put fire on the altar and arrange wood on the fire, including  the head and the fat on the fire.
Burnt offering is to make atonement for man.
Leviticus is the book of laws which springs directly out of Gods covenant with his people at Sinai. It is essentially for the priests, who are to instruct the people.
Leviticus is presented as God's instructions to Moses. Again an again comes the refrain: "The Lord told Moses..' And until medieval times both Jewish and Christian tradition saw Moses as the author of the book. There is, however no named author, and it is equally possible that a later writer set the material in its present order.
You must be holy, because I , the Lord your God, am holy. This is why sins must be dealt with - the  reason for the rules on purity and cleanness, heath and hygiene(衛生). God's people are to be distinct and different from the nations around, whose religion did not require morality and holiness. A close relationship with God means a life of obedience and faith.
The very idea of blood-sacrifice is repulsive(排斥) to many. The 'new covenant' has superseded the old.
Why?
Depends on personal faith to offer bull or sheep as burnt offering.
God's people are to be distinct and different from the nations around, because God is Holy. So we must be purity and cleanness, heath and hygiene.
How?
Keep being holy in my life to the Lord, for I am God's servant. Be distinct and different from around nations.
