Acts 7:51-60
You always resist the Holy Spirit! You stiff-necked people, with uncircumcised hearts and ears!
Stephen prayed,"Lord Jesus, receive my spirit." Then he fell on his knees and cried out, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them." When he had said this, he fell asleep.
The prosecuting witnesses, by law, had to cast the first stones - though in other respects this was little more than a lynching. The 'young man' Saul was probably in his 30s. He appears here for the first time, sharing the responsibility for Stephen's death. (Consenting may mean that as a member of the Jewish Council he cast his vote against Stephen)
The scene burnt into Saul's mind, and must have played a part in preparing him for his dramatic conversion to the new faith. From chapter 13 on, as the apostle Paul he takes the leading role in Acts.
Why?
Stephen saw the heaven open and Son of Man standing at God's side! For Stephen die for the Lord and Holy Spirit with him.
Stephen is blessing that he may see the heaven and Son of Man, his may suffer no more on the world.
Stephen pointed out the the false of Israel history is they did not obey the Holy Spirit and prosecuted the prophets, and did not obey the laws brought by the angles.
When we are living with the Lord, we can conquer the testimony and trial in the world.
How?
I don't afraid the dead but I will worry the living and the work of my mission, May the Lord give me more faith and awareness about his word to obey and follow Him.

The real worship God prefers
Tabernacle called testimony tent by Stephen.
And he called the temple as building made by man's hands.
Why?
Stephen reduced the importance of the Temple for the living God and Holy Spirit is more important than building. For God made the whole world.
Stephen pointed out that the worship center is the Lord, but not the Temple.
I can accept the idea of Stephen,but to the Israelite they couldn't accept it.
Do I have anything be idolized in my daily life or in church custom? Do I look at the works of church instead of the Lord?
How?
Please help me to know what is the workshop that you likes.

Don't let any benefit be obstacle to me to follow Jesus Christ
Acts 7:36-43
This is the Moses who said to his congregation, 'God will raise up a prophet just like me from your descendants.'
But they asked Aaron made a calf-idol, brought sacrifices to it.
Stephen said about how Israelite their fathers refused to obey Moses. They rejected him and in their hearts turned back to Egypt.
God turned away and gave them over to the worship of the heavenly bodies.
V42~43: Amos 5:25-27 written what the prophets said to Israelite.
Why?
God allows people to suffer the consequences of their wrongdoing.
Israelite has many of the history that refused the Moses and rejected God's prophets.
The false behavior happened again and again in the history, but human being always would not learn from it. It is the sin exists in man.
Moses did many wonders and power but people rejected him an God. Now Jesus Christ did many wonders and healed many peoples, they refused to believe in Jesus and killed him on the cross. So they did the same thing as the time of Moses. They were focus on their benefits of Temple and the position in the Temple.
Under angry or emergency people may forget the word of God or forget the Lord. Calm down and pray when things happen could let me know that He is the Lord!
How?

Acts 7:25-35
This is the same Moses whom they had rejected with words, "Who made you ruler and judge?" He was sent to be their ruler and deliverer by God himself, through the angel who appeared to him in the bush.
Why?
Moses thought his people knew he is their savior, who comes to deliver them. But his people did not know his mission is assigned by the Lord.
Stephen mentioned the situation of Moses, people rejected Moses, same as Jesus Christ is the savior to Israel, but they rejected Jesus either. When they reject the word of Jesus is same as they reject the law of Moses. For Jesus comes to complete the laws of Moses.
Most people do not know Jesus Christ is their savior so they deny Him. I feel so sad about it but I do not frustrated to this.
How?
I should do more to preach the name of Jesus Christ, to my neighbor, to my staff and someone unknown.

God's glory is not limited in the Temple or in Jerusalem
Acts 7:11-24
A round figure for a generation but also a number with special significance, making 'each new development in the history of God's mighty acts.'
Why?
Stephen mentioned Joseph and Moses stories because they are the saver to their forefather, they are arranged by the Lord. Who save his people in salve, and fulfilled God's promise.
No matter under what situation, God has his way and let his promises be done. God is the Lord with power and wonder beyond our imagination.
God's glory is not limited in the Temple or in Jerusalem but over all world. God's promise will be done even in worse situation.
How?
Trust in the Lord and follow his word. God is the Lord, his words never failed.
What can I do now? living out to witness the great and love of the Lord.

Promise is more important than the land
Acts 7:1-10
They charged Stephen talk nonstop against this Holy Place and God's laws.
Stephen's lengthy defense takes the form of a review of the nation's history.
God gave inheritance to Abraham and gave him nothing, not so much as foothold.
Why?
God sees the people inheritance is more important than the land.
God's promise shell be done, but could not be seen at that moment.
Jews always connect the land with God, but God gave Abraham promise but not land at begining. More important is the promise not the land.
How?
Look at the promise instead of the land. Help me have the faith to God's promise.

Stephen, a man fill of God's grace and power
Acts 6:8-15
Stephen, a man fill of God's grace and power, did great wonders and miraculous signs among the people.
Opposition arose to Stephen from Jews of Cyrene and Alexandria as well as the provinces of Cilicia and Asia. They argue with Stephen, but they could not stand up against his wisdom or the Spirit by whom he spoke.
They produced false witnesses to Stephen.
Stephan is charged with blasphemy and brought before the Jewish Council, just as Jesus was. He seems to have been among the first to foresee the inevitable break with Jewish worship which the new teaching entailed. He wants to 'altar the traditions Moses handed down' say his accusers.
Why?
Holy Spirit is with Stephen so he can speak bravely and without fear. He says the truth so no one could stand up against his wisdom or the Spirit.
What make me fear or afraid to preach gospel? I hope I can say the right word, but Holy Spirit man lead my tongue , I don't have to thinking what should I say.
How?

The Spirit and wisdom to solve problem
Acts 6:1-7
Situation: the number of disciples was increasing, the Grecian Jews among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food.
Method: Chose seven men from among them who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. turn food distribution responsibility over to them.
Apostles are attending to prayer and the ministry of the word.
Seven were chosen, Stephen, Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas and Nicolas. So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly.
Complaints come from the Greek-speaking, non-Palestinian Jews of unfairness in the daily share-out.
The apostles' answer is to let them choose seven of their own number - men of spiritual calibre - to oversee these practical matters. At least two left a permanent mark on the young church: Stephen, a powerful preacher, the first martyr, and Philip the evangelist.
Why?
The solve method affect the result of problem. Something I don't have to do, but others may be better than I, share the responsibility not only reduce my burden but also let others grow up in spirit and skill.
How?
What I lack when problem happens? Panic and hurry are my problem that I have to face it. I need the Spirit and wisdom from the Lord.

Teaching and preaching Christ Jesus

Gamaliel stood up in the Sahedrin and said," Let them go! For if their purpose of activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God.
Gamaliel: a well-respected leader of the Pharisees. Paul's teacher.
The Jewish historian Josephus tells Theudas' story by name, but dates it a generation later than Judas! Judas, for the resistance, headed a protest in AD 6 against paying ta to Rome.
They warned them not to speak in Jesus' name and sent them off. Apostles went out of the High Council overjoyed because the had been given the honor of being dishonored o account of the Name.
Why?
Apostle overjoyed because they gave honor to the Lord, suffering for the Jesus name. It is an honor for the Lord.
Under suffering keep preaching the name of Jesus, for He is the living God, it is truth God under universe.
How?
I can witness the Lord and Jesus Christ is a real living God. I will continue preach the name of Jesus.

Brave to be a witness of the Lord
Acts 5:25~32
Peter and the other apostles replied: "We must obey God rather than men!"
God exalted him to his own right had as Prince and Savior that he might give repentance and forgiveness of sons to Israel. We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.
The apostles openly held the Council responsible for Jesus' death, and they fear reprisals.
Hang him on a tree: The upright of the cross was a fixture, and might well be a saw-off tree trunk.
Why?
Obey God rather than men, because God has authority rather than men has, God is good to those who obey him.
Face to such threaten, apostles may have courage to speak and do the witness, because he have the Holy Spirit with them, and they do not fear the dead.
How?
Am I a witness of the Lord, Yes, I like to be and hope could do it well under the blessing of Holy Spirit.

God has the authority over all
Acts 5:12-24
Apostles has the power to heal sick and drive out the devil, let the lie man dead, so they were highly regarded by the people, but one one else dare join them.
Jealousy induced the hate and evil mind. Jealousy is because they can get what they desired.
The captain of the temple guard and the chief priests were puzzled, wondering what would come of this. Angle of the Lord opened the doors of the jail and brought them out.
It was like the days of Jesus in Galilee all over again so many were being healed by the apostles. No wonder the Jewish authorities grew jealous of their enormous influence.
Their swift deliverance from prison and the angel's command further convince the apostles of their mission.
Why?
People looked apostle as God.
Don't be jealousy, God has highly authority. We do our best and trust in the Lord who will make the best result.
Treats, imprisonment, even the lash, are of no avail against the power of God.
Peter's shadow: Shadow were thought to have magical powers.

Keep the right motivation to serve the Lord
Acts 5:1-11
a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property. With his wife’s full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles’ feet.
Peter said to him, What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.
Their sin is conspire to test the Spirit of the Lord?
Great fear seized the whole church and all who heard about these events.
Why?
Holy Spirit know the heart and mind of everyone.
Lie to the human but lie to the Holy Spirit, the God is severe sin, will be dead.
Ananias wanted to get the good honor before apostles, but selfish made him blind.
The work of Holy Spirit seized the whole church, for there was justice in the church.
Holy Spirit is with Peter so Peter knew that Ananias lied to God.
When church is growing up but there are some people are selfish and intent to made false witness, it is the work of Satan. It have to prevent and alert about it.

a man named Ananias, together with his wife Sapphira, also sold a piece of property. With his wife’s full knowledge he kept back part of the money for himself, but brought the rest and put it at the apostles’ feet.
Peter said to him, What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.
Their sin is conspire to test the Spirit of the Lord?
Great fear seized the whole church and all who heard about these events.
Why?
Holy Spirit know the heart and mind of everyone.
Lie to the human but lie to the Holy Spirit, the God is severe sin, will be dead.
Ananias wanted to get the good honor before apostles, but selfish made him blind.

Devotion to the needy among congregation of church and fellowship
Acts 4:32-37
Bamabas: Son of Comfort.
The whole congregation of believers was united as one - one heart, one mind. They didn't even claim ownership of their own possessions.
The apostles gave powerful witness to the resurrection of the Master Jesus and grace was on all of them.
They sold their field and gave to the apostle, it is not only devote to the Lord but also means the trust to apostle. They work together and trust each other.
Why?
Everyone of them focus on the Jesus their master, they looking for preach gospel and do the witness of the Jesus Christ. They love each others among the congregation. So the love and the glory are exist among them.
What I am focus on in my life? Do I really love others in my fellowship? Do I love my money and possessions than love the Lord?
How?
May I see the needy in my fellowship and congregation, could be a not selfish man to the needy person.

Pray to the Lord with one heart and one mind
Acts 4:23-31
Prayer together as 1.Praise the Lord for he created the earth and heaven. 2. Admitted that the Lord knows. They did what your power and will had decided beforehand should happen. 3. Did not ask God remove the threats but enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness and stretch out your hand to heal and perform miraculous signs and wonders through the name of your holy servants Jesus.
Released, they pray for boldness, and their prayer is answered.
Miracles: This prayer too was answered.
Why?
One heart and one mind to pray to the Lord, God gave the Holy Spirit to answer their prayer. For the Holy Spirit shaking the earth, and encourage their faith.

Speaking about what I have seen and heard
Acts 4:13-22
They commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. But peter and John replied, "Judge for yourselves whether it is right in Gods sight to obey you rather than God. For we can not help speaking about what we have seen and heard."
Despite the arrest of peter and John, numbers continue to grow. The Council may warn, but the apostles cannot stop speaking.
Jesus He is the stone: A quotation from Psalm 118:22 The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone.
Ordinary men of no education; untrained laymen.
Why?

There is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved
Acts 4:1-12
The priests and the captain of the temple guard and the Sadducees came up to Peter and John. They were greatly disturbed because the apostles were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection of the dead.
Many of those who listened had already believed the Message - in round numbers about five thousand!
By what power or what name did you do this?
Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. He is "the stone you builders rejected, which has become the capstone. Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."
It is the teaching, centering on the risen Christ, which annoys the Sadducees - naturally enough, since they denied the possibility of resurrection. The resurrection was at the heart of the Christian message from the beginning.
Why?
Peter was filled with the Holy Spirit, so he clearly proclaimed that it is by the name of Jesus Christ, they can healed the cripple. And he proclaimed Jesus is resurrection from the dead. Peter told the truth. He didn't fear to says and to proclaim the truth.
People who has power of political are disturbed and against the truth, but people who listened and believed that Jesus is the Lord.
How?

Jesus is the Messiah
Acts 3:18-26
Jesus is the Messiah.
Your God will raise up for you a prophet just lke me from your family. God said to Moses.
All the prophets from Samuel on down said the same thing, said most emphatically taht these days woudl come.
By your offspring all the families of the earth will be blessed. God said to Abraham.
Why?
Jesus is the only way to be blessing, Jesus is the Messiah. He is my savior and my hope, my way.
Our sins may be wipe out through Jesus Christ.
How?
Turn to the Jesus Christ and trust in Him.
Jesus is the Messiah.

By faith in the name of Jesus
Acts 3:11-17
All the people were astonished and came running to them in the place called Solomon's Colonnade.
Peter declared that you killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. We are witnesses of this. By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus's name and the faith that comes through him that has given this complete healing to him.
Healing and teaching, both ma possible by the power of the Spirit of God, go together here, as they did in the ministry f Jesus.
The man was sitting at the Temple gate because his disability barred him from entry. As soon as he can walk, he goes in. Something begins to happen when the passersby really look at the beggar and he looks up at them, Peter's message here is much the same as in chapter 2, calling his fellow-Israelite to repentance and faith
Solomon's Porch: The colonnade that ran along the east side of the Court of the Gentiles.
Why?
It is a good opportunity to explain the name of Jesus has power to complete heal a crippled man from birth.
Jesus always make us astonished, but do not let these wonders be our rules or blessing , but the fountain of blessing is the Jesus Christ. By faith of the name of Jesus is my way and my hope. Get rid of all good feeling or confidence on the world, God is my confidence.
How?
I need the Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit to cover me and leads me. By faith in the name of Jesus I can be saved.

It is Jesus' name and the faith
Acts 3:11-24
Peter speak to onlookers(圍觀). It is Jesus' name and the faith that comes through him that has completely healed him, as you can all see.
Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own people; you must listen to everything he tells you. 23 Anyone who does not listen to him will be completely cut off from their people."(Deut. 18:15,18,19)
And you are heirs of the prophets and of the covenant God made with your fathers. He said to Abraham, ‘Through your offspring all peoples on earth will be blessed.(Gen. 22:18; 26:4)
Peter read the scripture and says to crowd, this is how God fulfilled what he had foretold through all the prophets, saying that his Messiah would suffer. Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.
Why?
Jesus be suffering on the cross and God raised Him up. All of these are described by the prophets. So repent and turn to God is the only way to get rid of sins.
Peter spoke the right word at the right time.
Can I say the right word at the right time, I need God's Spirit and say the right word at right time.
How?
Ask the Lord to give me the wisdom and faith to honor his Holy Name.

What I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth

All the believers were together and had everything in common.
Praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. Who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful.
Why?
Peter and John had shown the power and the mercy of the Lord, let the lame walk, Peter took him by his right hand, so the man's feet and ankles became strong. It is wonder and amazing thing done by the Lord through Peter.
Holy Spirit helped apostles has faith and power to prove they are the follower of Jesus Christ, what they believed is the true God.
When a fellowship has the power of Spirit and praise the Lord everyday, God will give him more people be saved.
How?

Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ
Acts 2:25-47
Peter used Psalm 16 8:11 to says about the Jesus who he is. Jesus raised from the dead. God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it.
Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear.
God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.
What shall we do? Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Why?
Jesus is the Lord and Messiah, Peter said to the crowd and scripture to prove it. And peter and other followers are witnesses of it. So it impress the crowd, 3000 people added their group.
Tell them, witness of it, repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Peter received the Holy Spirit so his life changed and be the witness of Jesus Christ.
How?

Acts 2:14-24
Peter addresses the crowd and mentioned the word of Joel 2:28-32 to explained the wonder images.
In the Last Days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on every kind of people;Your sons will prophesy, also your daughters.
Before the Day of the Lord arrives, the Day tremendous and marvelous.
Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
God raised Jesus from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.
The impassioned(激切) address delivered by a transformed Peter evokes an immediate response. They have killed Jesus by allowing him to be crucified. God has raised him to life.
The third hour: 9 a.m., and on that day there was fasting till mid-morning.
Why?
God pour out the Spirit on his people for who may witness the glory of the Lord. Prove and help Christians has power and knows the way of God.
With one Spirit, one believe and one savior.
The gospel is good news to everyone who believes in Jesus and calls on the name of the Lord. No limitation except accept Jesus and believe in Him.

Wind and tongues of fire are the signs of the presence and power of God
Acts 2:1-13
When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place, Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them where filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
They speaking in his own language of gentiles. Some, however, made fun of them and said, "They have had too much wine."
With the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost the waiting is over. Tongues of flame that all can see denote an inner change which is quickly evident. The apostles and disciples become the new church, full of life and power, utterly different from their former fearful selves. And the changes is permanent.
Why?
Both Hebrew and Greek use the same word for 'wind' and 'Spirit'. The wind and the tongues of flame are signs of the presence and power of God.
The audience of Jews and converts were from widely scattered countries. Now, to their astonishment, each hears his own mother tongue being spoken by these Galileans. The curse of Babel is dramatically reversed.
Holy Spirit came so they became the new church, same as the work of God.
How?
What should I do when Holy Spirit enable me, I will follow the Holy Spirit to serve others and give honor to the Lord.

Understand God's word and using it in the right time and places
Acts 1:15-26
In those days Peter stood up among the believers and said to other group numbering about a hundred and twenty.
Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled. Judas did what the Holy Spirit spoke long ago through the mouth of David concerning him. (at Psalm 69:25)
Therefor it is necessary to choose one of the men who have been with us the whole time the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, become a witness with us of his resurrection.
So they proposed Joseph called Barsabbas and Matthias, and they cast lots an the lot fell to Matthias; so he was added to the eleven apostles.
As far as we know, this is the last time the apostles use the time-honored method of casting lots. It is not just a 'lucky dip' - the decision is made after much prayer.
The 12 apostles parallel the 12 tribes of Israel, so the number must be made up.
The twelfth man must have been with Christ throughout his earthly ministry, and have seen him after the resurrection.
Why?
Peter wanted to explain that Jesus was died and resurrection as the Scripture says. And Judas was did the evil thing predicted by Holy Spirit, but the apostles needed to be filled the twelve for 12 tribes of Israel and the twelfth had to be chosen to witness Jesus' resurrection.
Peter has brave and familiar with the scripture, he can stood up to speak to the group, reminded all of these happened by the arrangement of the Lord, they should come together and continue the work of Jesus Christ.
Peter used the scripture for he familiar the God's word and used it in the right place and right time.
How?
Pray to the Lord let me have more Holy Spirit may understand the word of God and using it in the right time and places.

Holy Spirit comes on you, you will be able to be my witnesses

Timing is the Father's business.
When the Holy Spirit comes on you, you will be able to be my witnesses in Jerusalem, all over Judea and Samaria, even to the ends of the world.
Apostles returned to Jerusalem, and they completely together in prayer, 11 apostles and the women, include Jesus' mother, Mary and his brothers.
A cloud: the sign of God's glory and the means of conveying Jesus from them.
Sabbath day's journey: Jewish law limited travel on the Sabbath to 2000 cubits - about 1 km.
We know that James, at least, had seen the risen Jesus.
Why?
They still did not know why Jesus be crucified and returned to present before them. They were hoping the kingdom of Israel, the kingdom on the world.

To do and to teach
Acts 1:1-5
For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.
Jesus began to do and to teach until the day he was taken up to heaven. Jesus taught about the kingdom of Heaven.
Gift of God's promise is the Holy Spirit.
All the evidence, from earliest times, points to Paul's dear friend Luke, the doctor. Luke is the only non-Jewish writer in the New Testament. He may have come from Antioch, or Philippi. Although we have few facts about his life, his writings prove him to be a skillful writer ad a generally reliable historian. We know, from the way he changes from 'they' to 'we' in Acts(16:10)
The first part of Luke's work is an account of all that Jesus did and taught during his life on earth. Acts continues the story after his return to God, when his work continues through the apostles, empowered by the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.
Why?
Jesus appeared to them over a period of forty days and spike about the kingdom of God, why here talked about Holy Spirit only, for this is important to all his followers.
Without Holy Spirit I can not understand the meaning of Bible, without Holy Spirit I could not know the power and glory of the Lord and Jesus Christ.
How?
Follow the instruction of Holy Spirit and have sense to the Holy Spirit, be humble and obey the word of God, then I will know what is the way from Holy Spirit. Do and teach is the way of Jesus teaching us so I should do and teach other gentile.
