Be silent, Be ashamed, the pride of all glory

Isaiah 23:1-18
Be silent, you people of the island and you merchants of Sidon, whom the seafarer have enriched.
Be ashamed, O Sidon, and you, O fortress of the sea, for the sea has spoken" I have neither been in labor nor given birth; I have neither reared sons nor brought up daughters."
The Lord Almighty planned it, to bring low the pride of all glory and to humble all who are renowned on the earth.
At that time Tyre will be forgotten for seventy years, the span of a king's life. But at the end of these seventy years, the Lord will deal with Tyre. She will return to her hire as a prostitute and will ply her trade with all the kingdoms on the face of the earth. Her profit and her earnings will be set apart for the Lord.
For centuries Tyre and Sidon (two Phoenician cities on the coast of modern Lebanon) dominated the sea-trade in the eastern Mediterranean. Tyre's colonies, of which Cyprus was the nearest, were widespread. And the city's merchantmen ventured as far afield as the Indian Ocean and the English Channel.
In 722/1 the city fell to Sargon of Assyria. In 701 the ruler of Tyre fled to Cyprus as Sennacherib approached. Assyria declined, Tyre regained its power, only to lost it again to the Babylonians.
Why?
70 years: Probably a round figure, meaning a lifetime.
The judgement of the Lord comes not only Israel and Judah but also the whole world, every nation.
Tyre after seventy years will turn to the Lord at that day.
Proud man and rich man should be silent and be shame before the Lord. All of these are the grace of the Lord. It is the Lord them this opportunity and talent.
How?
Knowing the Lord Almighty, humble myself  for I am the servant of the Lord.

Eliakim son of Hilkiah

Isaiah 22:1-25
An oracle concerning the Valley of Vision- Jerusalem.
The Lord Almighty, has a day of tumult and trampling and terror in the Valley of Vision, a day of battering down walls and of crying out to the mountains.
You built a reservoir between the two walls for the water of the old Pool, but you did not look to the One who made it, or have regard for the One who planned it long ago.
The Lord Almighty called you on that day to weep and to wail, to tear out your hair and put on sackcloth,. But see, there is joy and revelry, slaughter of cattle and killing of sheep, eating of eat and drinking of wine!"Let use eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!" you say.
The Lord Almighty has revealed this:" Till your dying day this sin will not be atoned for" says the Lord Almighty.
In that day God will summon his servant, Eliakim son of Hilkiah(God build, a man fear the Lord). God let him has authority. He will be a father to those who live in Jerusalem and Judah. God will place on his shoulder the key to the house of David; what he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open.
God will drive him like a peg into a firm place, All the glory of his family will hand on him.
In that day, the peg driven into the form place will give way; it will be sheared off and will fall, and the load hanging on it will be cut down.
Who is Eliakim son of Hilkiah? However verses 22-25 seem to cross reference Revelation 3:7-13 which describes the missionary church, Philidelphia, where Jesus says he will open doors and no one will be able to shut them. Is Eliakim Jesus or is Jesus in the line of Hilkiah? Why would the wording of Revelation 3:7 match the wording of Isaiah 22:22 except for us to draw a connection between the two.
Eliakim means "Resurrection of God" in Hebrew - or "God will Develop." Hilkiah means "Portion of Jehovah (YHWH)". In these two names, do we not see a picture of our Lord and Savior, who is Himself a portion of Jehovah, and God in Resurrection? He is a member of the Trinity - the Three-in-One - Have you seen this Elder Yonah?
Why?
Weep and wail as God weep, repent out sin, don't ignore the warning of the Lord.
Jesus Christ is the key to house of David. He has authority and in that day (first)- Savior was born, in that day(second)- he went on the cross.
How?
Honor the name of God, He is worthy to worship. Remember what the Lord has done for us and everything is created by Him.

watchman

Isaiah 20-21
Isaiah has gone stripped and barefoot for three years, as a sign and portent against Egypt and Cush. The king of Assyria will lead away stripped and barefoot the Egyptian captives and Cushite exiles. with buttocks bared - to Egypt's shame.
An oracle concerning the Desert by the Sea: Like whirlwinds sweeping through the south land, an invader comes from the desert from a land of terror. A dire vision has been shown to me: The traitor betrays, the looter takes loot. Elam, attack! Media, lay siege! I will bring to an end all the groaning she caused.
Babylon has fallen, has fallen! All the images of its gods lie shattered on the ground!
Isaiah is the watchman. The Lord says to Isaiah: Go, post a lookout and have him report what he sees.
An oracle concerning Arabia, "within one year, as a servant bound by contract would count it, all the pomp of Kedar will come to an end.
Why?
v1,The year is 711 BC, when the Assyrian crushed the Philistine rebellion at Ashdod. The support expected from Egypt had not materialized.
It was a startling demonstration(like Ezekiel's dramatic actions) of the coming captivity of Egypt, designed to warn his people to place no reliance on help from that quarter.  In 701 BC Egypt was defeated by Assyria.
The 'wilderness' or 'desert by the sea' is Babylonia. The downfall of Babylon will be good new to the captives from Israel. Even so, Isaiah is appalled by what he foresees. Being 'seer ' is painful and costly business.
There is temporary respite for Edom- but judgment was to follow(34:5)
Not even the remote tribes of Arabia will escape the long arm of Assyria.
Watchman says what the Lord let him sees.
To be a servant of the Lord, do what the Lord says even it is a shame matter- reveal the sign of God.
How?
Could I be a watchman of the Lord? If the Lord gives me the sign or oracle. I could be a preacher and counselor of God's word, to encourage the faith of people if the Lord allows me.

The Lord will let Egypians lose heart and bring their plans to nothing

Isaiah 19:1-25
The Lord will let Egypians lose heart and bring their plans to nothing; God will hand the Ehyptians over to the power of a cruel master, and a fierce king will rule over them. No matter their consult the idols and the spirits of the dead, their officials of Zoan and leaders of Memphis are become fool.
In that day the Egyptians will be like women. They will shudder with fear at the uplifted hand that the Lord Almighty raises against them. And the land of Judah will bring terror to the Egyptians.
In that day five cities in Egypt will speak the language of Canaan and swear allegiance to the Lord Almighty. One of the will be called the city of Destruction.
In that day there will be an altar to the Lord in the heart of Egypt and a monument to the Lord at its border. The Lord will strike Egypt with a plague; he will strike them and heal them. They will turn to the Lord , and he will respond to their pleas and heal them.
In that day the Egyptians and Assyrians will worship together Israel will be the third, along with Egypt and Assyria, a blessing on the earth. The Almighty will bless them, saying,"Blessed be Egypt my people, Assyria my handiwork, and Israel my inheritance."
Why?
The Israel will be recovered and be stronger in the plan of God.
Egypt was defeated by Assyria when Sennacherib's army besieged Jerusalem. Further defeats culminated in the sack of Thebes in 663 BC, when the Assyrians pillaged centuries of temple treasures.
Verse 16-24 reveal God's ultimate purpose: the revelation of himself to the Egyptian people. Amazingly, Egypt ad Assyria will be united with Israel in the worship of God, bring blessing to the whole world.
"That day"- the day of God's judgment- both temporal and final. New Testament sees 'that day' as the day of Christ's return.
After Jerusalem fell in 587 there were numerous influential colonies of Jews in Egypt and in Assyria A copy of the Jewish Temple was even constructed at Leontopolis in Egypt about 170 BC. But all that was only a pale隱約 shadow of what is envisaged設想 in Isaiah.
All of the disaster come upon the earth is let the people turn to the Lord and get together to worship the Lord. Men's wisdom and plan bring to nothing. Only the words of the Lord may come true.
How?
The Lord is righteousness, every evil doer and rebel to the Lord will be perished. Only the one fear the Lord and accept the Jesus Christ has eternal life.

Remain quiet and will look on from dwelling place

Isaiah 17-18
An Oracle against Damascus : "Damascus will no longer be a city but will become a heap of ruins. The fortified city will disappear from Ephraim, and royal power from Damascus. the remnant of Aram will be like the glory of the Israelites," Declares the Lord Almighty.
In that day men will look to their Maker and turn their eyes to the Holy One of Israel.
Although the peoples roar like the roar of surging waters, when he rebukes them they flee far away, driven before the wind like chaff on the hills, like tumbleweed before a gale.
This is the portion of those who loot us, the lot of those who plunder us.
A prophecy against Cush: Woe to the land of whirring wings along the rivers of Cush.
To a people tall and smooth-skinned, to a people feared far and wide, an aggressive nation of strange speech, whose land is divided by rivers. - Cush
The Lord says to me: I will remain quiet and will look on from my dwelling place, like shimmering heat in the sunshine, like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest"
The gift will be brought to the Lord, Mount Zion.
Why?
This is a prophecy from Isaiah's early days, in response to King Ahaz's appeal for help against the Syria-Israel alliance. The Assyrians launched a series of raids in which Damascus was plundered and this prophecy also attacks Israel for siding with Syria against their own kin - the nation of Judah.
Cush is modern Sudan. In Isaiah's day Egypt was ruled by a Sudanese dynasty. The Assyrian threat brings envoy使節 from afar. But the God will deal with the invader on the very eve of victory. And the far-off nation will send gifts in grateful homage尊敬 to God
No matter how the people roar or how tall and fear they are, when God rebukes them, they flee far away.
It is uneasy to remain quiet when Isaiah knew what God's plan is. So as we know what will be in that day, keep our steady emotion and pace.
How?
To be a servant of God, even we know what it will going on, we have to remain quiet and look from our dwelling place, with clam heart and emotion.
In that day people will worship God Almighty, turn their eyes to the Lord.

Humble myself for I am a redeemed sinner.

Isaiah 16:1-14
Send lambs as tribute to the ruler o the land from Sela, across the desert, to the mount of the Daughter of Zion. Let the Moabite fugitive stay with you; be their shelter from the destroyer. - Moab sends to Jerusalem for help, and God urges his people to take the fugitives in.
In love a throne will be established; in faithfulness a man will sit on it-- one from the house of David-- one who in judging seeks justice and speeds the cause of righteousness.
Maob's pride - her overweening pride and conceit, but her boasts are empty.
Therefore the Moabites wail, they wail together for Moab.
This is the word the Lord has already spoken concerning Moab. But now the Lord says: "within three years, as a servant bound by contract would count them, Moab's splendor and all her many people will be despised, and her survivors will be very few and feeble.
Why?
Vineyards of Sibmah: A region famous for its wine- here a symbol of national prosperity.
A person bound by contract works no more than the time contracted for; so,'three years, and barely that.'
The cities of Moab fell to Assyria in successive campaigns. They were to fall again to Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon.
The Lord humbles the pride man and nations with much suffering and destruction. They fell by their pride and conceit.
The Lord establish a throne with Justice and righteous - Jesus Christ.
How?
God's word spoken never return, His word stand from generation to generation. All the arrogant and pride men will be fallen. Mediate myself everyday. To be a humble man and fear the Lord.

Serving God by serving people

Isaiah 15:1-9
A prophecy against Moab
Ar, Kir in Mob are ruined , destroyed in a night!
The Moabites were descendants of Abraham's nephew, Lot. They occupied the plateau land east of the Dead Sea. It was from Moab that Ruth came.
At times the Moabites were on good terms with the Israelites, but they had no share in Israel's faith.
Isaiah is stirred to sympathy at the spectacle of Maob's suffering.
The cities of Moab fell to Assyria in successive campaigns. They were to fall again to Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon.
Why?
The people of Moab were been killed and flee away from their home to other countries. Their home's water is dried up and the grass is withered; the vegetation is gone and nothing green is left.
The Lord's wrath comes to Moab also, no one can escape from God's propose.
How?
Ruin in a night, the end of the world will come in very short time. Ready myself to that day, prepare what I need for the calling of the Lord. And serving God by serving people.
