Numbers 32:20-42
He said to them, “If the Gadites and Reubenites, every man armed for battle, cross over the Jordan with you before the Lord, then when the land is subdued before you, you must give them the land of Gilead as their possession. But if they do not cross over with you armed, they must accept their possession with you in Canaan.”
The Gadites and Reubenites answered, “Your servants will do what the Lord has said. We will cross over before the Lord into Canaan armed, but the property we inherit will be on this side of the Jordan.”
The descendants of Makir son of Manasseh went to Gilead, captured it and drove out the Amorites who were there. So Moses gave Gilead to the Makirites, the descendants of Manasseh, and they settled there.
So they work out a practical plan to enable the fighting force to leave the livestock and their dependents behind, safe and secure. Part of the tribe of Manasseh conquers Gilead, and Moses gives them this land for their own.
Why?
Describe the 2.5 tribes settled in east of Jordan river. For they found east part of Jordan is good place for living and God subdue their enemy.
They agreed cross over the Jordan with arm and fight with his brothers, so Moses agreed their request as Lord commanded.
How?

The tribes of Reuben and Gad want to settle the good grazing lands east of the Jordan
Numbers 32:1-19
The Reubenites and Gadites they came to Moses and Eleazar the priest and to the leaders of the community, and said, the land the Lord subdued before the people of Israel—are suitable for livestock, and your servants have livestock. If we have found favor in your eyes,” they said, “let this land be given to your servants as our possession. Do not make us cross the Jordan.
And here you are, a brood(窩) of sinners, standing in the place of your fathers and making the Lord even more angry with Israel. If you turn away from following him, he will again leave all this people in the wilderness, and you will be the cause of their destruction.
We will not return to our homes until each of the Israelites has received their inheritance. We will not receive any inheritance with them on the other side of the Jordan, because our inheritance has come to us on the east side of the Jordan.
The tribes of Reuben and Gad want to settle the good grazing lands east of the Jordan. Their request is allowed, but only on condition that they help in the conquest of Canaan first.
Why?
The tribes and Gad saw the land of Moan was good for living, so they wanted to stay their as their inheritance, but when they mentioned to Moses and leader of Israel, they were angry with their idea. It is against the way of the Lord, it will cause them destruction. So Moses and leaders refused them.
But they took care their wife, children and herbs, and they will go with Israelite and across Jordan to fight with their brothers.
God's promised land is the best one, but they chose the land here, It looks good either, but away from his brothers, it makes them ruined before their brothers a few generation later.
How?
Peopel sometimes look the beauty of what we saw, but havn't confident to the Lord that the promised land is the best one, We chose the second one instead of the best one.

Take vengeance on the Midianites for the Israelites
Numbers 31:1-54
Take vengeance on the Midianites for the Israelites. After that, you will be gathered to your people. The Lord said to Moses.
Twelve thousand men armed for battle, a thousand from each tribe, were supplied from the clans of Israel.
They fought against Midian, as the Lord commanded Moses, and killed everyman and the five kings of Midian. They also killed Balaam son of Beor with the sword.
Dividing the spoils.
The Midianites are punished for their sin in inducing Israel to worship false gods. Army and nation divide the spoil fifty-fifty. One five hundredth of the army's share goes to the priests: one-fiftieth of the nation's share to the Levites. Verse 48-54 record the army's special offering given in gratitude for their safe return. This generation obeys God, and he give them victory. But we will hear more of the Midianites
Why?
1/500 to the priests, 1/50 to the Levites. the 50/50 share with army and other people. It is good sharing way. For the army hard fought againt Midian, so they gain more. And priests and Levite share their part either.
Midianites has bared their own sins for they curse the people of God, Isreal. And Balaam who like the money of Moab king instead of God's word.
Be careful love the Lord we can get much more than we can imaging.
After this war it may gather Israelite for they got victory and got spoil and many plunder.
How?

Promises made to God must be kept
Numbers 30:1-16
Regulation about the vow to women.
If her husband says nothing to her about it from day to day, then he confirms them by saying nothing to her when he hears about them. If, however, he nullifies them some time after he hears about them, then he must bear the consequences of her wrongdoing.
These are the regulations the Lord gave Moses concerning relationships between a man and his wife, and between father and his young daughter still living at home.
Vows. Promises made to God must be kept. Men is Israel are unconditionally bound by vows of any kind. Verse 2-15 set out the terms under which vows made by women are binding. This is a patriarchal(重男輕女) society in which men ensure their control over women.
Why?
Man has right beyond daughter and wife to make vow to the Lord, if her father or husband nullifies it. it will not be binding on her. This is a patriarchal society.
Promises made to God must be kept for God is faithful and worthy, so do not rash made vow before the Lord.
No saying means agree with it. So clearly say yes or not to everything we met.
How?
Made decision carefully under the word of the Lord. If it is good say yes, if it is wrong say No.

Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit of leadership
Numbers 27:1-23
The daughters of Zelophehad son of Hepher, Why should our father’s name disappear from his clan because he had no son? Give us property among our father’s relatives.
Say to the Israelites, ‘If a man dies and leaves no son, give his inheritance to his daughter. If he has no daughter, give his inheritance to his brothers. If he has no brothers, give his inheritance to his father’s brothers. If his father had no brothers, give his inheritance to the nearest relative in his clan, that he may possess it. This is to have the force of law for the Israelites, as the Lord commanded Moses.
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go up this mountain in the Abarim Range and see the land I have given the Israelites. After you have seen it, you too will be gathered to your people, as your brother Aaron was, for when the community rebelled at the waters in the Desert of Zin, both of you disobeyed my command to honor me as holy before their eyes.”
Moses said to the Lord, “May the Lord, the God who gives breath to all living things, appoint someone over this community to go out and come in before them, one who will lead them out and bring them in, so the Lord’s people will not be like sheep without a shepherd.”
Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit of leadership, and lay your hand on him. Have him stand before Eleazar the priest and the entire assembly and commission him in their presence. Give him some of your authority so the whole Israelite community will obey him.
The law said that land passed from father to eldest son, keeping it in the tribe. But Zelophehad left only daughters. Women could not normally inherit in other ancient Near Eastern countries, but in Israel the ruling is given that , failing sons, daughters may inherit. But they must marry within their own tribe to safeguard the tribal inheritance.
Moses' life is almost over, as he looks out over the promised land. Joshua, his right-hand man and one of the two faithful spies is God's choice of successor. He is now invested with authority to lead the nation in Mose's place.
Why?
God cares tribe and family whose daughters has the authority to get inheritance among their father's relatives.
This is the first law built among Near Eastern countries.
Moses life is come to over, but he is keep in mind how his people going. Asked the Lord give them a leader to the promised land. Like sheep without a shepherd.
