Exodus 34:1-17
Moses, proclaiming, “The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.”
Be careful not to make a treaty with those who live in the and where you are going, or they will be a snare among you.

The tablets are engraved afresh in token of God's renewal of the covenant. This particular selection of laws is influenced by Israel's recent idol-worship, also by the coming temptations of Canaanite religion.
Why?
Moses commended God's love and faithfulness and compassionate. His love is longer and deeper than punish the wicked or guilty children.
God will make wonder among Israel and blesses his follower.
Do not make a treaty with those who against you. Careful to make a treaty whom I do know, it may be a snare to me.
How?
God is love, his word is my strength and my light. Praise to the Lord!
