The Ark is in my home and in my heart

2 Kings 25:1-30

The Babylonians broke up the bronze pillars, the movable stands and the bronze Sea that were at the temple of the LORD and they carried the bronze to Babylon. They also took away the pots, shovels, wick trimmers, dishes and all the bronze articles used in the temple service
There at Riblah, in the land of Hamath, the king had them executed. So Judah went into captivity, away from her land.

The city falls to the Babylonian army, is looted and utterly destroyed. All but the poorest people left under governor Gedaliah, are taken into exile. But Gadaliah is murdered and the people escape to Egypt to avoid the inevitable wrath of Babylon, taking the prophet Jeremiah with them. Under a new king in Babylon 35 years later, Jehoiachin, the deposed king of Judah, is released from prison and kindly treated.
After the days of Jeremiah the Ark disappears fro history. Most likely Babylonian soldiers destroyed it when they looted the Temple in 586BC. There was no Ark in the later Temple in Jerusalem.
But this is the stuff of which legends are made! Jewish tradition says Jeremiah hid it in a cave on mt Nebo, or King Josiah hid it in a cave beneath Jerusalem. Ethiopian legend claims that the son of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba took it to Ethiopia where it is supposedly hidden in a church in Aksum. Ethiopian Christians carry boxes containing tablets bearing the Ten Commandments in procession. But this and other Jewish elements in their customs are less ancient.
Why?
All of Temple of God are lost, all symbol of the Lord in Jerusalem are carried away. When the Israelite did not serve the Lord, these articles are meaningless to them. So the Lord took all these away.

Christian is not a symbol or a religious ceremony, it is a heart belonging God and the trust in the Lord. God sees our heart deeper than man watch our position and prosperity.
How?
The Ark is disappeared, but the real new Ark is in my heart , and in my home, so I fear the Lord and obey his commandment in my daily life.

Surely these things happened to Judah according to the Lord’s command

2 Kings 24:1-20
Surely these things happened to Judah according to the Lord’s command, in order to remove them from his presence because of the sins of Manasseh and all he had done, including the shedding of innocent blood. For he had filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, and the LORD was not willing to forgive.
Jehoiakim, Jehoiachin, and Zedekiah became king of Judah in Jerusalem for 11 years, 3 months and 11 years.
All of them did the evil before the Lord.
Nebuchadnezzar removed the treasures from the temple of the LORD and from the royal palace, and cut up the gold articles that Solomon king of Israel had made for the temple of the LORD. He carried all Jerusalem into exile: all the officers and fighting men, and all the skilled workers and artisans—a total of ten thousand. Only the poorest people of the land were left
Judah remains a vassal of Nebuchadnezzar for three years, then defects to Egypt again, This brings ore attacks from the Babylonians, and repeated warnings from the Prophet Jeremiah.
The prophet Jeremiah pronounced God's judgment on Jehoiachin.
Why?
God's word is true and all his command will be done. His word existing for ever. Respect to the Lord and obey his word. For God is the Lord above all in the world.
Shedding innocent blood is the biggest sin, so the Lord will not to forgive.
Even Nebuchadnezzar is invaded Jerusalem, but he either is the tool of the Lord to implement God's word.
How?
Trust in the Lord and obey his word, God is my savior and my hope.

The clean-up extends beyond Judah to former Israelite territory

2 Kings 23:15-30
Then Josiah looked around, and when he saw the tombs that were there on the hillside, he had the bones removed from them and burned on the altar to defile ti, in accordance with the word of the Lord proclaimed by the man of God who foretold these things. (1 Kings 13:2)
Just as he had done at Bethel, Josiah removed and defiled all the shrines at the high places that the kings of Israel had built in the towns of Samaria that had provoked the Lord to anger. Josia slaughtered all the priests of those high places on the altars and burned human bones on them.
The king gave this order to all the people: "Celebrate the Passover to the Lord your God." Not since the days of the judges who led Israel, not throughout the days of the kings of Israel and the kings o Judah, has any such Passover been observed.
Neither before nor after Josiah was there a king like him who turned to the Lord as he did - with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his strength, in accordance with all the Law of Moses.
The clean-up extends beyond Judah to former Israelite territory. The neglected Feast of Passover is celebrated once more and private malpractices are deal with.
God's judgment is delayed but not reversed: the nation's heart is not changed by the king's reforms. Josiah dies in futile conflict with Pharaoh Necho, who was marching to join forces with Assyria after the fall of Neneveh the Assyrian capital, to the Babylonians.
Why?
King Josiah reform Judah and Israel and remove all the detestable things in his territory, but the heart of Judah and Israelite had been defiled and had turned away from the Lord.
God's judgment is delayed because of the behavior of Josiah, but the anger of the Lord is still existing for the sins of his forefathers.
How?
Even a righteous man do the right thing may get the mercy from the Lord, delay God's judgment a while but the way of the Lord will not changed.

Josiah renews the covenant

2 Kings 23:1-14
Josiah renews the covenant.
The king stood by the pillar and renewed the covenant in the presence of the Lord - to follow the Lord and keep his commands, regulations and decrees with all his heart and all his soul, this confirming the words of the covenant written in this book. Then all the people pledged themselves to the covenant.

Josiah loses no time in acting on God's message through the prophet Juldah. Public reading of God's law is followed by renewal of the convenant-pack with God.
Then comes a purge of public places, ridding the land of objects associated with pagan worship.
Why?
For Josiah follow the word of the Lord and do it in action, he did not lose any time to obey God's command.
Let people renewed the covenant, make this actions not only to the king and officials, but to all people of Israel.
King has the authority let people do what he said, so Josiah made the most influence to Judah, to honor the name of the Lord, renew the covenant of the Lord.
How?
Follow the Lord and keep the commands of the Lord with all my heart and all my soul.
Be aware that I have covenant with the Lord either. Do not forget the covenant with the Lord!

God is reign this world forever with great mercy

2 Kings 22:1-20
Josiah was 8 years old when he became king. He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord.
Great is the Lord's anger that burns against us because out fathers have not obeyed the words of this book.
Because you tore your robes and wept in my presence, I have heard you, declares the Lord. Therefore I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be buried in peace. Your eyes will not see all the disaster I am going to bring on this place.
Josiah reigns 31 years.
The writer portrays him as the best of Judah's kings, loyal to God and his laws, and carrying out thorough-going religious reform. A book of the law is found in the course of repairing the Temple. Reading it reveals that the nation has broken covenant with God, incurring the statutory(法定的) penalties for such disloyalty. But the faithfulness of the king is taken into account
Josiah reigns 31 years
Why?
Josiah was young when he became a king, his mother, Jedudah, has more influence to him. Mother is important to a child growing up.
Even the destination of Judah has been made by the Lord, but when king turns to the Lord, God's mercy still come upon him. So the Lord blessed Josiah peace until end of his life.
A king turns to the Lord not only him but also his people be blessed by the Lord.
Before Joaish was born, God has chosen his to be a good king in Judah.
How?
Broken and  wept before the Lord, God will see and listen. How great the the name of the Lord!

Arousing God's anger

2 Kings 21:1-26
Manasseh did evil in the eyes of the Lord, following the detestable practices of nations the Lord had driven out before the Israelites.
I will stretch out over Jerusalem the measuring line used against Samaria and the plumb line used against the house of Ahab. I will wipe out Jerusalem as one wipes a dish, wiping it and turning it upside down. I will forsake the remnant of my inheritance and give them into the hands of enemies. They will be looted and plundered by all their enemies.
Amon was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem two years. He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, as his father Manasseh had done.
Why?
Manasseh did the evil before the Lord, even his father was obey God's word. This is the destination of God for many his forefathers, like Ahab, did not obey the commandment of the Lord. It is the consequence of the Israelites made covenant with the Lord.
Peace and prosperity may lead people forget that it is the blessing of the Lord.
How?
God's word is existing forever. His grace and judgement are existing forever.

The Lord heard his prayer and seen his tears

2 Kings 20:1-21
Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet had said, " you are going to die; you will not recover."
But Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord,"Remember, O Lord, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes." And Hezekiah wept bitterly.
The Lord heard his prayer and seen his tears. God healed him and gave him 15 years more.
Hezekiah asked Isaiah, "What will be the sign the Lord will heal me and that I will go up to the temple of the Lord on the third day from now?"
At that time Merodach-Baladan sent Hezekiah letters and a gift, because he had heard of Hezekiah's illness. Hezekiah showed him every treasure in his palace. Isiah said to Hezekiah, "all of these will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left. " says the Lord.
This is one of a number of Old Testament stories in which God 'changes his mind' , taking a more lenient course of action in response to people's pleas.
Babylon at this time was a small state south of Assyria, looking for allies. Isaiah predicts its future power, and the fate of Judah.
Why?
God listen to our prayer, it is possible God changes his mind. For the full heart and tears may touch the Lord.
After Hezekiah be healed, he is proud in what he has, so the Lord said to him all these will be carried off. Nothing will be left. Only the Lord is my inheritance. Build the house in the heaven is more important than on the world.
How?
Pray to the Lord with heart and tear. God is the Lord with mercy and grace! Even we may asked the Lord a sign for his way.

Friday, June 23, 2017

There will be the sign for you; 2 Kings 19:29-37

2 Kings 19:29-37
There will be the sign for you, O Hezekiah: "This year you will eat what grows by itself, and the second year what springs from that. But in the third year sow and reap, plant vineyards and eat their fruit....The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.
I will defend this city and save it, for my sake and for the sake of David my servant.
That night the angel of the Lord went out and put to death a hundred and eighty-five thousand men in the Assyrian camp. So Sennachrib king of Aaayria broke camp and withdrew. He returned to Niveveh and stayed there.
Crisis brings out the best in  Hezekiah. God answers his prayer and vindicates his trust. Isaiah's prophecy is fulfilled. Jerusalem is saved.
Why?
God will save Hezekiah for he worship God and explained what he needs the Lord. For God's sake the Lord make salvation to the Judah and his people.
God gave him the sign that it is the blessing of the Lord, there is peace, plenty  and joy.
God can save us what else can against the Lord Almighty.
How?
Focus one the Lord, for He is the great God.
Pray and ask the sign from the Lord!

The best inheritance is knowing the Lord and obey His commandment!

1 Kings 22:51-53
Ahaziah son of Ahab became king of Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel two years. He did evil in the eyes of the LORD, because he followed the ways of his father and mother and of Jeroboam son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin.
He served and worshiped Baal and aroused the anger of the LORD, the God of Israel, just as his father had done.
Why?
Ahaziah did evil in the eyes of the Lord because his father did the same things so he learn and accustomed it. It is became his culture and in Israel.
To be a parent should be a good sample behavior before the Lord, let children learn from us.
How?
The best inheritance is knowing the Lord and obey His commandment!

The Lord is the best inheritance in my family

1 Kings 22:37-50
Johoshaphat is a good king. He reigns Judah 25 years.
V48: The strong north winds may have blown the fleet on to the rocks.
He walked in the ways of his father Asa and did not stray from them.
Why?
Johoshaphat walked in the ways of his father Asa, for Asa is a good king either. He successes good inheritance.
How?
Walk on the way of the Lord is the best inheritance in my family, more important then any others.
God is my inheritance, whom I trust.

重功,Joshua and his wife came to my home yesterday and brought the mission of the Lord to me, remind the mission I had before to China and my knowledge in Meteorology. Which is the gift God gives to me. Trust in the Lord for he is the great father and he is my way.

Listen to the word of the Lord

1 Kings 22:26-36
The king of Israel then ordered, put this fellow in prison and give him nothing but bread and water until I return safely.
Micaiah declared, "If you ever return safely, the Lord has not spoken through me." Then he added, "Marked my words, all you people."
The king of Israel disguised himself and let Jehosphaphat king of Judah wear royal robes.
But someone drew his bow at random and hit the king of Israel between the sections of his armor. All day long the battle raged, and the king was propped up in his chariot facing the Arameans. The blood from his wound ran on the floor of the chariot, and that evening he died.
The warning is ignored. Ahab cannot cheat death by being disguised and he dies in battle at Ramoth-gilead, east of the Jordan, as God had said.
Listen, people, all together' has been mistakenly brought in here from Micah, from a marginal note by a scribe who thought Micaiah the same as Micah. There are very few scribal 'corrections' of this king in the Hebrew text.
Why?
Ahab ignored the warning of Micaiah for he has his plan to disguise himself on battle. And Ahab did not believe in the word of the Lord.
Ahab is die for his own arrogance and foolish.
How?
Listen to the recommendation from others and trust in the word of God. Concerning the word of the Lord!

The Lord is an authroity God over all

1 Kings 22:18-25
Finally, a spirit came forward, stood before the Lord and said, 'I will entice him.' "By what means?" the Lord asked. 'I will go out and be a lying spirit  in the mouths of all his prophets,' he said.
"So now the Lord has put a lying spirit in the moths of all these prophets of yours. The Lord has decreed disaster for you."
The Zedekih son of Kenaanah went up and slapped Micaiah in the face. "Which way did the spirit from the Lord go when he went from me to speak to you?" he asked.
Micaiah replied, "You will find out on the day you go to hide in an inner room."
He has decreed: The will of God, here as throughout the Old Testament, is seen as the immediate cause of events.
Why?
Ahab heard the truth, but he still insisted to go out for the war. For God has made destination to make Ahab dead in the battle. The Lord has made judgment to everyone by God's way.
Even make a lying spirit in the mouths of all the prophets is God's plan.
God has the authority over all the world to judge us.
Find out the Lord on the day we go to hide in an inner room, God speaks to our heart with tender and small voice!
How?
Do be be disguized by our desire and ambition to make things away from the Lord. Always follow the word of the Lord and make us with clean heart and serve the Lord only.

Brave to says the truth in these world

1 Kings 22:9-17
The messenger who had gone to summon Micaiah said to him. "Look, as one man the other prophets are predicting success for the king. Let your word agree with theirs, and speak favorably."
But Micaiah said," As surely as the Lord lives, I can tell him only what the Lord tells me."
Then Micaiah answered, "I saw all Israel scattered on the hills lie sheep without a shepherd, and the Lord said, "These people have no master. Let each one go home in peace."
It is Jehoshaphat's request which brings Micaiah to the king with his fateful prophecy (one lone(孤單) true voice against 400)
Why?
First time Ahab did not agree that Micaiah said the truth, because he said the ridicule words to king Ahab.
Micaiah said the truth before the kings, it is brave and he trust in the Lord, no matter what will happen to him. The Lord is his real king in his heart, he is the servant of the Lord.
The altitude of Micaiah said to the king is model to all of the Christian. We should said the truth, the word of the Lord.
How?
Brave to says the truth in these world. To honor the name of the Lord! God is with us when we says the truth.

Listen to the truth instead of good word

1 Kings 22:1-8
For three years there was no war betweeen Aram and Israel. But in the third year Jehoshaphat king of Judah went down to see the king of Israel. He said to the king of Israel, "Don't you know that Ramoth Gilead belongs to us and yet we are doing nothing to retake it from the king of Aram?"  There agree go together to fight against Ramoth Gilead.
Jehoshaphat replied to the king of Israel, "First seek the counsel of the Lord."
Four hundred men they answered, "for the Lord will give it into the king's hand." But Jehoshaphat asked, "it there not a prophet of the Lord here whom we can in quire of?" The king of Israel answered ,"There is still one through whom we can inquire of the Lord, but I hat him because he never prophesies anything good about me." Jehoshaphat is request which brings Micaiah to the king.
Jehoshaphat's son Jerom has married Ahab's daughter Athaliah. Israel and Judah are, temporarily, allies against Syria.
Why?
Jehoshaphat worship the Lord so he like to require the prophet of the Lord, who can say the truth.
Prophet or Christian should said the word of the Lord, the truth, but not the word of man who liked.
How?
How about me? Like to hear what I liked word or should listen to the truth. God's word always remind me and are good to me. Listen to the truth instead of the good words.

Confess our sins before the Lord, God id love

1 Kings 21:20-29
Ahab said to Elijah, "So you have found me, my enemy!"
"I have found you," he answered, "because you have sold yourself to do evil in the eyes of the Lord. 'I am going to bring disaster on you. I will consume your descendants and cut off from Ahab every last male in Israel.
And also concerning Jezebel the Lord says: 'Dogs will devour Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel."
There was never a man like Ahab, who sold himself to do evil in the eyes of the Lord, urged on by Jezebel his wife.
"Have you noticed how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has humbled himself, I will not bring this disaster in his day, but I will bring it on his house in the days of his son."
Elijah speaks true and for once the king takes notices, winning a stay of judgment for his lifetime.
Why?
You have found me: You have found my heart!
The Lord has full of mercy to everyone, even like Ahab have sold himself to do evil, when Ahab humbled himself, God like not to bring disaster in his day, but delay to his son.
God is judgment and mercy to men.
Everyone confesses his sins and turn to the Lord, God will be forgiven him and give him a new way.
How?
Don't hesitate, come to the Lord Almighty, confess our sins and turn to the Lord, for God is love!

Don't be accompany of evil doer

1 Kings 21:11-19
The word of the Lord came to Eliah the Tishbite: "Go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, who rules in Samaria." Say to him, 'This is what the Lord says: Have you not murdered a man and seized his property?" Then say to him, 'This is what the Lord says: In the place where dogs liked up Naboth's blood, dogs will lick up your blood - yes, yours!'
Elijah, the old prophet of doom, is the only fly in the ointment(美中不足). But Elijah speaks true and for once the king takes notice, winning a stay of judgment for his lifetime.
Why?
The elder and noble did not help Naboth, but they follow the letter of King Ahab, for they afraid the power of king, and did the evil witness to Naboth. They should do the witness for the Lord, but they killed an innocent people.
It is revealed that the custom and the population in the city of Israel was worse and downfall. So they can made false testament to a good man.
How?
Face the world and worse environment now, Christian should do the right things and brave to be a witness to honor the name of the Lord. Don't be accompany of evil doer!

Desire may leads to death

1 Kings 21:1-10
King Ahab wanted to buy the vineyard belong to Naborh the Jezreelite. But Naboth replied, "The Lord forbid that I should give you the inheritance of my fathers."
Ahab went home, sullen and angry because Naboth refused sell him the inheritance.
His wife said, " Is this how you act as king over Isreal? Get up and eat! I'll get you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite."
She wrote letters in Ahab's name, placed his seal on the, and sent the to the elders and nobles who lived in Naboth's cit with him. She asked them set two scoundrels opposite Naboth and have them testify that he gas cursed both God and the king. Then take hi out and stone him to death.
Why?
Actually it is possible to sell land of inheritance to others, like David bought a land to build an altar for the Lord, but Ahab is a bad king so Nobath refuse sell his inheritance.
Seizure (奪取) or compulsory(義務) purchase of and was illegal in Israel. A man's heritage has to be handed on to the next generation. But other people's rights do not bother Jezebel. While her husband sulks like a spoilt child(被寵壞的孩子), she quietly arranges for Naborh's liquidation(清算). She has only to contrive(圖謀) a blasphemy charge - backed of course by the statutory(法定的) number of witness - and the 'criminal's lands are forfeit(喪失).
Like something much more or desire some matter may induce spiritual fall,
Like spoilt child may cause many trouble to him and his family.
How?
Do not desire something more than the Lord, it may lead to death. Good desire may make us improve, but just desire without limitation cause downfall.

There is no excuse to follow word of the Lord!

1 Kings 20:35-43
A prophet condemns Ahab.
Prophet disguised himself with his headband down over his eyes.  As the king passed by, the prophet called out to him.
"That is your sentence," the king of Israel said, "You have pronounced it yourself."
This is what the Lord says:  'You have set free a an I had determined should die. Therefore it is your life for his life, your people for his people'. "Sullen and angry, the king of Israel went to his palace in Samaria.
Why?
The word of the Lord could not be changed or disobeyed. Even the prophet could not change the word of the Lord.
We can not disobey the word of the Lord for our own profits.
How?
Let me be a servant of the Lord to win the city of Tainan or Taiwan. I am here my Lord!
There is no excuse to follow word of the Lord!

Ahab forgot the word of the Lord

1 Kings 20:31-34
Wearing sackcloth around their waists and ropes around their heads, they went to the king of Isreal and said "Your servant Ben-Hadad says:"please let me live."
The king answered, "Is he still alive? He is my brother."
I will return the cities ay father took from your father," Ben-Hadad offered. "you may set up your own market areas in Damascus, as my father did in Samaria."
Ahab said, "On the basis of a treaty I will set you free." So he made a treaty with him, and let him go.
My father... your father: Meaning ancestor, not actual father.
Why?
Ahab did not asked the Lord and Ahab forgot it is the Lord made him victory. The Lord said 'I will hand over this huge mob of an army to you.'
Ahab saw the profits of the territory and economic benefit from Aram market, so he make treaty with Ben-Hadad and let him go.
Ahab had not set the Lord in his heart at all!
How?
Do not see the benefit and forget the order of the Lord, God's word is higher than everything. All of the profit are belong to the Lord. When we obey God's word, the Lord will give us more than we expected.

The fear of the Lord is the start of wisdom

1 Kings 20:22-30
Afterward, the prophet came to the king of Israel and said, "strengthen your position and see what must be done, because net spring the king of ram will attack you again.
The man of God came up and told the king of Israel, "This is what the Lord says: 'Because the Arameans think the Lord is a god of the hills and not a god of the valleys, I will deliver this vast army into your hands, and you will know that I am the Lord."
Benhadad has to eat his words in face of Israel's double victory. Abab spares his life, but in doing so stores up trouble for Israel. He has made the same mistake as Saul: In a 'holy war' everything is made over to God in sacrifice. This war was meant to demonstrate that hills and plains alike are under God's dominion.
Why?
Arameans is powerful and stronger than Israelite, but the Lord is with Israel, so Ahab made victory over Benhadad, this is the holy war. The hills and plains alike are under God's dominion. God like to let Ahab, Israelite know that the Lord is God!
Benhadad failed for had not knowledge to the Lord almighty.
How?
My god is the great god, nothing is impossible to Him. Trust in the Lord and obey his commands, all the victory belong to the Lord. The fear of the Lord is the start of wisdom.

No fully obey the word of the Lord

1 Kings 20:10-21
Meanwhile a prophet came to Ahab king of Israel and announced, "This is what the Lord says:' Do you see this vase army? I will give it into your hand today, and then you will know that I am the Lord."
"But who will do this?" asked Ahan.
The prophet replied, "This is what the Lord says: 'The young officers of the provincial commanders will do it."
And who will start the battle? Ahab asked. The prophet answered, 'You will.'
The young officers of the provincial commanders arched out of the city with the army behind the and each one stuck down his opponent. At that, Arameans fled, with the Israelite in pursuit.
Why?
God asked Ahab start the battle, but Ahab afraid and did not attack first, and let the young official with 232 men with him, Ahab assembled 7000 troop followed him.
God gave victory to Ahab but he did not fully listen to the word of the Lord. He missed the chance to honor name of the Lord.
How?
Do not afraid of the security and safety of mine, and should be fully obey the word of the Lord.
Step into the unknown way, it may be the blessing from the Lord. Go forward and obey the word of God.

Rely on the Lord better than rely on men

1 Kings 20:1-9
Ben-Hadad king of Aram mustered his entire army. Accompanied by thirty-two kings with their horses and chariots, he went up and besieged Samaria and attacked it.
The king of Israel, Ahab did not refuse the request from Aram, all his gold, wives and children is belong to Aram. But second time, Ben-Hadad asked sent his officials to search his palace and the houses.
The king of Israel summoned all the elders of the land and said to them. The elders and the people all answered, "Don't listen to him or agree to his demands."
Benhadad of Syria and the allied kings of 32 city-states attack Samaria. The diplomatic exchange is difficult to follow.
Why?
Ahab was seeking the words of men and listen to elders opinion. He is totally forgot the Lord, who is the real king in Israel.
How?
Do not seeking the word of man but the word of the Lord. Rely on the Lord better than rely on men.

Mission of the Lord is keep going on

1 Kings 19:15-21
The Lord said to Elijah,"Go back the way you came, and go to the Desert of Damascus. Anoint Hazael king over Aram. Also, anoint Jehu son of Nishi king over Israel, and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat from Abel Meholah to succeed you as prophet."
"Yet I reserved seven thousand in Israel - all whose knees have not bowed down to Baal and all whose mouths have not kissed him."
Elijah went up to Elisha and threw his cloak around him. Elisha then left his oxen and ran after Elijah. "Let me kiss my father and mother good-by," he said," and then I will come with you."
Elijah had left himself intolerably(難以忍受) alone, his work finished. He is given a companion and successor, Elisha. God's work goes on.
Elisha is "anointed", called to become a prophet, by Elijah's symbolic action in throwing his cloak around him. But the anointing of Hazael and Jehu is left to Elisha.
7000 men: The number is probably symbolic: 7(for perfection)* 1000.
Why?
God asked Elijah go back to the land he had escaped, and had new missions, to anoint new kings. And anoint his successor, Elisha.  God recover Elijah faith and strength. God encouraged Elijah, he is not alone, there are 7000 men belong to the Lord in Israel.
Even Elijah was tired and Elisha succeed him as prophet. God's work keep going on. Never stop by man's any situation happened.
Elisha said good-bye to his parent then became Elijah's attendant. It is the procedure to be a God's servant. It is not to get the permission from parent, but let parent know where I will go.
How?
Every kings in the world is anointed by the Lord, God recovered the faith of Elijah, his servant. The Lord will recover me when I serving the  Lord!

Be still and listen to the whisper from the Lord

1 Kings 19:9-14
The Lord appears to Elijah.
Elijah said to the Lord,"I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected you covenant, broken down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too."
God was not in the wind, God was not in the earthquake. God was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled is cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.
In the place where God made himself known to Moses, he speaks to Elijah, not in any spectacular way but out of the stillness.
Self-pity is dealt with, a sense of proportion (比例感)restored, and the path ahead mapped out.
Why?
Strong wind, earthquake and fire shows the power of the Lord, but all of these are tools of the Lord. God does not inside these material or phenomenons.
God showed to Elijah with whisper, shows God's gentle and love to Elijah.
When Elijah was tired God encouraged Elijah with gentle sound.
How?
When I am exhausted, be still and listen to the whisper word from the Lord.

When I fear and weak, God is my savior and comforter

1 Kings 19:1-8
Ahab told Jezebel everything Elijah had done and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword. So Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah to say, "May the gods deal with me, be it ever so severely, if by this time tomorrow I do not make your life like that of one of them."
Elijah was afraid and ran for his life.
God's angel gave Elijah food and water , let him had strength on his way ran to Horeb.
Elation(歡欣鼓舞)passes. Spiritual and physical strain leave Elijah in the grip(抓住) of depression, fear, disappointment. Jezebel still holds the whip(鞭子) hand. Elijah escapes south to the desert and Sinai, drawing fresh strength from the food and drink provided by a practical angel.
Why?
Even like Elijah such great prophet and did great thing before the Lord, but he may weak and fear and lost spiritual  strength. So as we may lose faith like Elijah even we had experienced the great things of the God. But God will help us like angel helped Elijah.
Do not forget the Lord always is my strength and fortress. Search for the Lord. He is my hope and helper.
How?
No matter what happened God is my strength and my hope. When I fear and weak, God is my savior and comforter.

Trust and pray to the Lord

1 Kings 18:41-46
Elijah climbed to the top of Carmel, bent down to the ground and put his face between his knees. Go and look toward the sea,"he told his servant. And he went up and looked. "There is nothing there", he said. Seven times Elijah said,"Go back." The seventh time the servant reported, "A cloud as small as a man's hand is rising from the sea."
Elijah said, "Go and tell Ahab, 'Hitch up your chariot and go down before the rain stops you."
The power of the Lord came upon Elijah and, tucking his cloak into his belt, he ran ahead of Ahab all the way to Jezreel.
The drought ends. But for all this, there will be no deep and lasting religious reform.
Elijah ran 17 miles to the summer palace at Jezreel.
Why?
Elijah was caring about the drought  and wait for the rain coming. So he bent down to the ground and pray.
After Elijah's pray there is rain on the ground, Elijah has faith and earnestly prayed seven times, then the rain was coming.
God listen to the prayer of righteous man.
James 5:17-18 Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops.
How?
Rely on the Lord and pray to the Lord, for God is my Lord with mighty power and listen to my prayer. Trust the Lord and pray to the Lord!

Build an altar of the Lord in my life

1 Kings 18:30-40
Elijah took twelve stones, one for each of the tribes from Jacob. With the stones he built an altar in around it large enough to hold two seahs of seed.
At the time of sacrifice, the prophet Elijah stepped forward and prayed: "O Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be know today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command. So these people will know that you, O Lord, are God and that you are turning their hearts back again."
When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate(拜倒) and cried, "The Lord - he is God! "
It's God who is 'the living Lord'. The fire burns the saturated offering. The people shout "The Lord alone is God.' The prophets of Baal are slaughtered.
Why?
Elijah first rebuilt the altar of God, for the altar is ruined. He want Israel build an altar, build the religious to the Lord. Recover the ruined faith to the Lord.
First built the heart of altar in my heart then God will listen our pray.
How?
To rebuild the altar what I need to do? Earnest to search God and made more closer to the Lord and listen to what he said to me.
