Isaiah 49:14-26
This is what the Sovereign Lord says: “See, I will beckon(招手) to the nations, I will lift up my banner to the peoples; they will bring your sons in their arms and carry your daughters on their hips. Kings will be your foster fathers, and their queens your nursing mothers. They will bow down before you with their faces to the ground; they will lick the dust at your feet. Then you will know that I am the Lord; those who hope in me will not be disappointed.”
But this is what the Lord says: “Yes, captives will be taken from warriors, and plunder retrieved from the fierce; I will contend(抗爭) with those who contend with you, and your children I will save.
I will make your oppressors eat their own flesh; they will be drunk on their own blood, as with wine. Then all mankind will know that I, the Lord, am your Savior, your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.”
Comfort, compassion and restoration are the keynotes.
Why?
People was doubted and suspected that how God can rescue them, how to help them escape from captive.
Yes, God is the our Savior, our Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob. His arm never shorten, his strength never weary.
God word stand firm forever. God is the mother of his children, even better than his own mother. God will not forsake his children.
How?
Shout to the Lord and rejoice to the God, He is reign, God is my all in all.

The Redeemer and Holy One of Israell - to him who was despised and abhorred by the nation, to the servant of rulers; "King will see you and stand up, princes will see and bow down, because of the Lord, who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel, who has chosen you.
Shout for joy, you heavens; rejoice, you earth: burst into song, you mountains! For the Lord comforts his people and will have compassion on his afflicted ones.
Part tow of the larger section (40-50) opens with the second 'Servant Song'. God's servant is Israel, yet also one who will bring Israel back.
Why?

Paid attention to my commands, your peace would have been like a river
Isaiah 48:1-22
You who take oath in the name of the Lord and invoke the God of Israel - but not in truth or righteousness.
You have heard these things; look at them all, Will you not admit them? "From now on I will tell you of new things, of hidden things unknown to you.
For my own name's sake I delay my wrath; for the sake of my praise I hold it back from you, so as not to destroy you completely. See, I have refined you, though not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction.
Listen to me, Jacob, Israel, whom I have called; I am he; I am the first and I am the last.
If only you had paid attention to my commands, your peace would have been like a river, your well-being like the waves of the sea.
Leave Babylon, flee from the Babylonians! Announce this with shouts of joy and proclaim it. Send it out to the ends of the earth' say, "The Lord has redeemed his servant Jacob."
From Babylon, we turn back to Israel. This chapter is the climax(高潮) to what has gone before in 40-47. It marks a break in the section as a whole: chapters 49-55 are 'part two'. There are harsh words for God's people. Stubborn, deaf to God, treacherous and rebellious they have fully deserved all they have suffered.
Verse 1-11 largely concern the past, 12-22 the future. All that God foretold in their past history has come true. Now he is telling them something new. God always purposed peace for his people, but there could be ' no peace for the wicked'. Now the moment of liberation has come; he says 'Go out from Babylon go free!'
Why?
God is righteousness who do not allow the wicked one and the punished will be with them. God is love who always love his people, for sake of God's name does not destroy them completely, God delay his wrath. So do not think there is not God, God is waiting for our repentance, let us have opportunity to turn to God.
Leave Babylon, it is free from slavery. so as leave this world's attract and the custom, but obey the word of the Lord.
From now God will tell us of new things, of hidden things unknown to us. God is the Lord doing new things.
How?
Trust in the Lord, and paid attention to God's commands, his peace would have been like a river, your well-being like the waves of the sea.

Your wisdom and knowledge mislead you
Isaiah 47:1-15
The fall of Babylon.
You said, I am forever - the eternal queen! But you did not consider these things or reflect on what might happen. Now then, listen, you love of pleasure, lounging in your security and saying to yourself, 'I am , and there is none beside me. I will never be a widow or suffer the loss of children'. Both of these will overtake you in a moment, on a single day: loss of children and widowhood.
You have trusted in your wickedness and have said,'No one sees me.' Your wisdom and knowledge mislead you when you say to yourself,'I am, there is none besides me.'
That is all they are to you - these you have dealt with and labored with since childhood. All of them go on in their error; there is not one that can save you.
This chapter is a taunt-song to the metre of a funeral procession. Babylon will be shown as little mercy as the Babylonians have show others.
Why?
Babylon were shown no mercy to other country people, so all of the terror and calamity come upon them in a moment without mercy. What they trusted is gone.
Wisdom and knowledge mislead Babylon, for the arrogance,. It is same to us today. We need wisdom and knowledge but it should be from the Lord and use it in the right way to benefit men.
Be humble, do not trust in what I have done or what I have, but trust in the Lord, his word and his faithfulness.
Many mind and consideration is built with since childhood, but careful to check it, it may be wrong or mislead us.
How?
Trust in the Lord and walk with Him with faith and love and hope.

To whom will you liken me that we may be compared?
Isaiah 46:1-13
With whom will you compare me or count me equal? To whom will you liken me that we may be compared?
Remember this,, keep it in mind, take it to heart, you rebels. Remember the former things, those of long ago; I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me.
I make known the end from the beginning, fro ancient times, what is still to come. I say, 'My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please'.
I am bringing my righteousness near, it is not far away; and my salvation will not be delayed. I will grant salvation to Zion, my splendor to Israel.
Proud Babylon will fall
The indictment of pagan gods reaches its climax in the passive submission of the Babylonian god Bel and Nebo. These dumb(啞) idols burden the backs of their worshippers. The real God is one who carries his people's burdens, who has power not only to speak but to act.
Why?
God is the only one, with whom will you compare? My God is not only speak but also act compare to the idols are dumb.
Remember, do not forget or ignore that from the beginning the Lord is God and there is no other.
God bringing his righteousness near and his salvation will no be delayed. God will grant salvation to Zion, save his people.
God's word never fail and will be stand forever.
How?
Remember what God has spoken and what mercy God has poured on me. God is my Lord, my shepherd and my salvation, the foundation of my life.
Praise Holy name of the Lord!

I am the Lord, and there is no other.
Isaiah 45:1-25
For the sake of Jacob my servant, of Israel my chosen, I summon you by name and bestow(賜給) on you a title of honor, though you do not acknowledge me. I will strengthen you, though you have not acknowledged me, So that from the rising of the sun to the place of its setting people may know there is none besides me. I am the Lord, and there is no other.
Woe to those who quarrel with their Maker, those who are nothing but potsherds among the potsherds on the ground. Does the clay say to the potter, 'What are you making?' Does your work say, 'The potter has no hands'?
Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God and there is no other.
By myself I have sworn, my mouth has uttered in all integrity a word that will not be revoked: Before me every knee will blow; by me every tongue will swear.
In the reign of Cyrus. Jerusalem and its Temple will be rebuilt. Verse 9-13: God speaks to his questions. We return to the courtroom at verse 20.
God's love reaches beyond Israel to the world. The New Testament applies verse 23 directly to Christ.
Why?
For the sake of Jacob my servant. God's mercy come upon them. For the sake of Jesus Christ the salvation come upon me, let me can turn to the Lord and be a servant of the Lord.
God is the maker of the world, no one could quarrel with their maker. Obedience and humble before the Lord is way to be free and prosper.
God is the most high in all, so God sworn by himself. God's word stands forever, so God's mouth has uttered in all integrity a word that will not be revoked.
God is the Lord who strength me, bestow on me a title of honor. What can I say? Give honor to the Lord! Praise his holy name everyday.
How?
God is the Lord and there is no other. There is no other way to be saved except turn to the Lord.

He who made you, who formed you in the womb, and who will help you
Isaiah 44:1-28
This is what the Lord says— he who made you, who formed you in the womb, and who will help you: Do not be afraid, Jacob, my servant, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.
This is what the Lord says— Israel’s King and Redeemer, the Lord Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God.
They know nothing, they understand nothing; their eyes are plastered over so they cannot see, and their minds closed so they cannot understand. No one stops to think, no one has the knowledge or understanding to say, “Half of it I used for fuel; I even baked bread over its coals, I roasted meat and I ate. Shall I make a detestable thing from what is left? Shall I bow down to a block of wood?”
“Remember these things, Jacob, for you, Israel, are my servant. I have made you, you are my servant; Israel, I will not forget you. I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist. Return to me, for I have redeemed you.”
I am the Lord, the Maker of all things, who stretches out the heavens, who spreads out the earth by myself,
These chapters continue the themes that run through the whole section: Israel as God's servant, the object of his love; God as lord of history, the only one able to draw back the veil on the future; ridicule(嘲笑) of the lifeless no-gods that humans worship; God's promise that he will set his people free.
We are taken a stage further. The general promise that God will rescue his people becomes specific. In the reign of Cyrus, Jerusalem and its Temple will be rebuilt.
Why?
No God but God; the forecast of Israel's return.
Israel is servant of the Lord, is the chosen one.
God asked his people return to Him, for God has redeemed him. So as we when we turn to the Lord and through Jesus Christ we are like Israelites, God has redeemed us.
Do not like those who understand nothing, their eyes are plastered over so they cannot see, and their minds closed so they cannot understand.
How?
No one like God, who can redeem me and save me. Praise his Holy name forever!

You are my witnesses, declares the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen
Isaiah 43:1-28
You are my witnesses, declares the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he, Before me no god was formed nor will there be one after me.
Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.
I have not burdened you with grain offerings nor wearied you with demands for incense. You have not bought any fragrant clamours for me. But you have burdened me with your sins and wearied me with your offenses.
I , even I , am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more. Review the past for me, let us argue the matter together; state the case for your innocence.Your first father sinned; those I sent to teach you rebelled against me. So I disgraced the dignitaries of your temple; I consigned Jacob to destruction and Israel to scorn.
In all his people's suffering God is beside them. He will set them free again, simply because he loves them. In verse 8 the scene is again the courtroom: both Israel and the nations are on trial. By their constant disobedience. God's people have forfeited(沒收) all right to his care - yet he forgives.
Why?
I am God's witness for I am a Christian, I am servant of the Lord God has chosen me. It is the mercy of the Lord come upon me. So I know and believe and understand that the Lord is He.
God always is doing new things, so forget the former things and do not dwell on the past. God's way is beyond my way, God's mind is beyond my mind.
God's grace and mercy is higher than we expected and beyond our understanding. How great you are my Holy God.
God has blots my transgressions so I may stand before the Lord to pray and talk. May my heart always be humble before the Lord.
How?
May my heart always be humble before the Lord. Do good witness for God's holy name.

A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out
Isaiah 42:1-25
“Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delightt; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will bring justice to the nations. He will not shout or cry out, or raise his voice in the streets. A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out. In faithfulness he will bring forth justice; he will not falter or be discouraged till he establishes justice on earth. In his teaching the islands will put their hope.”
I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles, to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.
These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them But those who trust in idols, who say to images, 'You are our gods', will be turned back in utter shame.
So he poured out on them his burning anger, the violence of war. It enveloped them in flames, yet they did not understand; it consumed them, but they did not take it to heart.
A light for the nations
A new theme begins to unfold, alongside the forecast of Babylon's down fall: God's plan to open the eyes of the whole world and bring them salvation. This was, from they very beginning, the intended role of Israel.
Chapter 42 begins abruptly with the unexplained. 'Here is my servant'. It is left to the reader to work out exactly who this is. The servant is 'Israel', and at the same time someone else. As the picture develops through the four 'Servant Song' it becomes clear that no ordinary person or people fits the description.
The New Testament writers are in no doubt that the servant Issiah foresees, the one who will save all humanity by suffering on their behalf, is Jesus Chris's own authority for saying so.
God presents his servant, then commissions him. A new song follows the announcement of 'new things' to come. It is a song of praise and a battle song. Then God continues his address with a fresh promise of help and a plea that this time his people listen. The exiles need to learn from their experience.
Why?
God has plan to uphold his servant, Jesus Christ.. The sign of his servant are open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison and to release from the dungeon those who sit in darkness.
His servant will be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles. So Paul delivered gospel to gentiles is follow God's command.
When day of Isaiah, people who read it, but Israelite did not understand it, till New Testament it is revealed that Jesus Christ is this great servant. So praise song is worthy to his great servant.
God's chosen one understand what God's says, but those men they suffered battle and God's angry, they still did not understand, they did not take God's word to their heart.
A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out. Jesus Christ looks weak and keep silence, totally out of man's concept and idea, but God is with Him, let his mission be done as God's plea.
How?
Pray to the Lord change the heart to those we loved and God loves, give them the savior Jesus Christ message to them. Jesus Chris is the only way to free from sins.

Do not fear; I will help you.
Isaiah 41:1-29
Who has done this and carried it through, calling forth the generations from the beginning? I, the Lord—with the first of them and with the last—I am he.”
But you, Israel, my servant,Jacob, whom I have chosen, I took you from the ends of the earth, from its farthest corners I called you. I said, ‘You are my servant’; I have chosen you and have not rejected you. So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. Do not be afraid, you worm Jacob, little Israel, do not fear, for I myself will help you,” declares the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.
I was the first to tell Zion, ‘Look, here they are!’ I gave to Jerusalem a messenger of good news. I look but there is no one— no one among the gods to give counsel, no one to give answer when I ask them. See, then are all false! Their deeds amount to nothing; their images are but wind and confusion.
Fear not... I will help you.
God's tone is that of the stern lawyer as he brings the nations to court. But with his own people he is infinitely loving , and tender. He is at hand to help. They have nothing to fear.
My servant: The nation as god's servant is a recurring theme in Isaiah
God calls the gods of the nations - who hare no gods - to account. They can neither predict things to come nor make sense of the past, Only God, the one true God, can do that.
Why?
Only God is the real God who can tell us the way of future, his love endure forever, He is the first at beginning. He gave to Jerusalem a messenger of good news. But idols their images are but wind and confusion.
God's love come upon me so I can be God's servant. so fear not, God will help me!
God is the Lord, my redeemer, is the Holy One of Israel.
How?
Do not fear; I will help you. God is my redeemer, my way and my hope. Trust in Him, God is my fortress and strong holder.

Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength
Isaiah 40:1-31
A voice of one calling: “In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God, Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain. And the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all people will see it together. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
All people are like grass, and all their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field. The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”
Say to the towns of Judah, “Here is your God!” He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.
Why do you complain, Jacob? Why do you say, Israel, “My way is hidden from the Lord; my cause is disregarded by my God”?
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah 40-50 addressed these dispirited exiles. Although god has punished them - as he had so often warned, and as they deserved - he still loves them. They can trust him. He has the power to help them and fulfill his promises.
These chapters are so full of hope and comfort that they are known as "The Book of the Consolation of Israel". They also look far beyond the circumstances of Israel in the 6th century BC. Where the previous chapters spoke of a future king, these speak of a coming 'Servant' who will carry out God's purposes at great cost. The New Testament, with Christians ever since.
This whole section speaks so powerful of God's salvation that Christians see in it something much bigger than the rescue of Israel at a particular time in history. Here is God's firm purpose to deliver humankind from the 'bondage' of sin: his promise of a new life for all who will come to him.
Why?
There is comfort for God's people in their distress: he is coming as he promised. Israel's God is the Creator: incomparable, eternal. Yet he never stops caring for his people.
Everyone before the Lord is nothing, like grass, their faithfulness is like the flowers of the field, but the word of our God endures forever. Every man is so small and little, faith of men are weak and limited. But the word of God endure forever. What God's said will be done.
No matter what distress or upset we are, turn to the Lord. Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
