Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me

Psalm 51:1-19
For I know my transgressions,
Yet you desired faithfulness even in the womb
Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean;
Create in me a pure heart, O God,
My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit
The Hebrew sats this psalm was written by David when the prophet Nathan confronted him over his adultery with Bathsheba and the murder of her husband Uriah. V18-19, which seem to belong to the time after Jerusalem fell to the Babylonians, may have been added later.
The psalm itself is deeply moving. It lets us see right into the soul of a man who has loved God yet fallen into grievous sin. He has been made to see himself through God's eyes and admits his guilt. All he can do now - knowing OG's love and mercy- is to ask forgiveness and the chance of a fresh start.
Why?
I confess that I am a sinner, selfish, and grief person. But for God's love, my sins could be erased.
God loves a broken spirit, a broken and contrite heart, God will not despise. I will praise the Lord forever.
Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me, restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit to sustain me. This is my prayer either.
--------------

Those who sacrifice thank offerings honor me, and to the blameless, I will show my salvation

Psalm 50:1-23
He summons the heavens above, and the earth, that he may judge his people: Gather to me this consecrated peoplewho made a covenant with me by sacrifice.” And the heavens proclaim his righteousness, for he is a God of justice.
Sacrifice thank offerings to God, fulfill your vows to the Most Highand call on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me.
But to the wicked person, God says: What right have you to recite my laws or take my covenant on your lips? You hate my instruction and cast my words behind you.
When you did these things and I kept silent, you thought I was exactly like you. But I now arraign you and set my accusations before you.
“Consider this, you who forget God, or I will tear you to pieces, with no one to rescue you:
23 Those who sacrifice thank offerings honor me, and to the blameless, I will show my salvation.”
V1-4: the summons comes
V7-15: God s[eaks in warning to his loyal people. It is not enough to go through the ritual motions. Sacrifices are not required to satisfy god's hunger. It is the thankful heart, not the token thank-offering, that counts.
16-20: there are serious charges against those who can recite God's commandments, yet disobey them: who keep company with crooks and are prepared to ruin one of their own family.
21-23: they reckon God of no account because there has been no instant response. But they are wrong. They ignore his words, nothing can save them.
Why?
God doesn't like our sacrifices, but our thankful heart. For all of the offerings in the world are belong to the Lord.
The Goodman is who follow God's word, the evil man is who forget God.
When God kept silent to the evil men, it doesn't mean God agreed with them. But God will rescue the righteous men in their trouble.
How?
Sacrifice thank offerings honor God and to the blameless, God will show us salvation.

People who have wealth but lack understanding are like the beasts that perish.

Psalm 49:1-20
Why should I fear when evil days comewhen wicked deceivers surround me— those who trust in their wealth and boast of their great riches? No one can redeem the life of another give to God a ransom for them— the ransom for a life is costly, no payment is ever enough—so that they should live on forever and not see decay.
For all can see that the wise die,  that the foolish and the senseless also perish, leaving their wealth to othersTheir tombs will remain their houses forever, their dwellings for endless generations, though they had named lands after themselves.
But God will redeem me from the realm of the dead; he will surely take me to himself. Do not be overawed when others grow rich, when the splendor of their houses increases; for they will take nothing with them when they die, their splendor will not descend with them.
People who have wealth but lack understanding are like the beasts that perish.
Why?
No one can redeem the life of another give to God a ransom for them. Life is in hands of the Lord.
All life is limited, their wealth will leave to others.
Knowing the meaning of life and trust in the Lord is the only way to be an understanding man.
Wealth is blessing from the Lord but without understanding are like the beasts the perish. It is meanless to their life.
-------------

For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end

Psalm 48:1-14
Great is the Lord, and most worthy of praise, in the city of our God, his holy mountain.
As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the Lord Almighty, in the city of our God: God makes her secure forever.
Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing loveLike your name, O God, your praise reaches to the ends of the earth; your right hand is filled with righteousness.
Walk about Zion, go around hercount her towers, consider well her ramparts, view her citadels, that you may tell of them to the next generation.
For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.
An outburst of relief and joy at the city's reprieve from invasion.
Why?
Praise the Lord for God is most worthy of praise.
Within his temple, we meditate on God's unfailing love. It is not only read, understand but meditates it to our life, experience, and wonder.
Walkabout Zion, walk with the Lord, then you will know God is a living God.
For the Lord is out God forever and ever, and He will be our guide even to the end, so I do not fear and secure.

Rejoice and praise to the Lord forever and ever!

For the Lord Most High is awesome, the great King over all the earth

Psalm 47:1-9
For the Lord Most High is awesome, the great King over all the earth.
God has ascended amid shouts of joythe Lord amid the sounding of trumpets.
Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises. For God is the King of all the earth; sing to him a psalm of praise.
God reigns over the nationsGod is seated on his holy throne.
The nobles of the nations assemble as the people of the God of Abrahamfor the kings of the earth belong to God; he is greatly exalted.
An outburst of relief and joy at the city's reprieve from invasion.
Why?
Praise to the Lord is not just a word but describes how God is great to us. our God is a living God.
People of the God of Abraham, are those who believe Jesus Christ, all Christians.
How?
Praise to the Lord with joy, music, and song. And most important is praise the Lord with our hearts and mind.

Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations

Psalm 46:1-11
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in troubleTherefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.
Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nationsI will be exalted in the earth.”
This psalm - the one on which Luther based a famous hymn - may have been written following King Sennacherib of Assyria's attack on Jerusalem, some natural disaster, or in anticipation of the events heralding Messiah's coming.
Verse 4-5 has a parallel in Revelation 22:1-5, where the ideal is perfectly realized. The psalmist glories in God's presence with his people, and his real and unassailable protection.
Why?
Be still, facing this chaotic world and so many trouble and diseases. God will be exalted among the nations.
God is our refuge and strength, God is my help in trouble. Therefore I will not fear. No matter what happened before me.
How?
Trust in the Lord and be still, wait, and see what my God is working.

Forget your people and your father’s house Let the king be enthralled by your beauty

Psalm 45:1-17

Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.

You love righteousness and hate wickednesstherefore God, your God, has set you above your companions
10 Listen, daughter, and pay careful attention: Forget your people and your father’s housLet the king be enthralled by your beauty; honor him, for he is your lord.
Your sons will take the place of your fathers,  you will make them princes throughout the land.
I will perpetuate your memory through all generations, therefore the nations will praise you for ever and ever.
The actual occasion may have been the wedding of King Ahab of Israel to Jezebel, princess of Tyre. If so, the king’s reign soon changed for the worse.
Verse 1-9: the poet’s eloquent praise of the king’s majesty and godly rule.
Verse 10-15: a word to the bride in all her finery.
Verse 16-17: are addressed to the king.
Why?
God’s throne will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of God’s kingdom.
God’s character is love righteousness and hate wickedness. So the Lord is above my companions.
Praise the Lord and forget your people and your father’s house, means forget the behavior and customer in your father’s house. Because in God’s house there is a new house and new sprit. We have to be a new man.
How?
Praise the Lord with joy and music and heart to honor name of the Lord.

Awake, Lord! Why do you sleep? Rouse yourself! Do not reject us forever

Psalm 44:1-26
It was not by their sword that they won the landnor did their arm bring them victory; it was your right hand, your arm, and the light of your face, for you loved them.
But now you have rejected and humbled us you no longer go out with our armies. You have made us a byword among the nations;   the peoples shake their heads at us.
If we had forgotten the name of our God or spread out our hands to a foreign godwould not God have discovered it, since he knows the secrets of the heart?
Awake, Lord! Why do you sleep? Rouse yourself! Do not reject us foreverWhy do you hide your face and forget our misery and oppression?
This psalm is prompted by a disastrous defeat. Israel is bewildered. After all the stories of God's amazing actions in their early history and their complete reliance on him, now this! God had deserted them. They are disgraced and annoy understand why.
The witch to 'me' and  'my' in 4,6,15 may indicate a single voice leading the public prayer.
Why?
Psalmist though how great the Lord did for their ancestor,  They knew their victory was not by their sword, but by the hands of the Lord. But now, the Lord has turned away from them so their were under disgrace and scone of their enemies.
They pray to the Lord, for they trust in the Lord still listen to their prayer. If they had forgotten the name of the Lord, God knows it.
How?
Under distress or trouble is unhappy and sad, but when we turn to the Lord, we will know God is with us better than anything in the world.

Why my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God

Psalm 43:1-5
Vindicate me, my God and plead my cause against an unfaithful nation. Rescue me from those who are deceitful and wicked.
You are God my stronghold. Why have you rejected me? Why must I go about mourning,  oppressed by the enemy?
Send me your light and your faithful care, let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy mountain,  to the place where you dwell.
Then I will go to the altar of God, to God, my joy and my delight. I will praise you with the lyre,  O God, my God.
Why my soul, are you downcast?  Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God for I will yet praise him,  my Savior and my God.
Back as things are, at the very thought of God, faith and hope breakthrough.
Why?
When we are under trouble or facing the deceitful and wicked, we will downcast and feel sad to the environment.
But God is my hope, put my hope in God, praise to the Lord, Do not downcast for God is my way, my salvation.
Send me your light is the word of God to comfort me, guide me, encourage me.
------------------

How?
Put out hope in the Lord!

Wednesday, July 22, 2020

Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God,

Psalm 42:1-11
As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
My tears have been my food day and night, while people say to me all day long,  Where is your God?” These things I remember as I pour out my soul: how I used to go to the house of God under the protection of the Mighty One with shouts of joy and praise among the festive throng.
Why, my soul, are you downcast?  Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.
By day the Lord directs his love, at night his song is with me a prayer to the God of my life.
These two psalms share the same theme and the same refrain and probably began as a single poem.
The psalmist is in exile in the north, surrounded by godless people who dispirited, he contrasts past joys when he led the pilgrim throng to the sanctuary, with the unhappy present. All his happiness rests in God, and he is filled with longing for God's presence, to come again to the Temple.
Why?
When people lost the Temple, church, we will remember the good and grace of the Lord.
Like the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for my God. Do I have such a desire in my heart?
Why my soul downcast? For the country has lost and Temple was gone, so psalmist felt sad.
Put your hope in God for I will praise him. This is our heart and mind have to be, for God is my Lord, my savior.
God will direct his love by day, at night his song is with me. God is always with me.
How?
Praise the Lord and remember his word in my heart.

Because of my integrity, God uphold me

Psalm 41:1-13
Blessed are those who have regard for the weakthe Lord delivers them in times of trouble.
The Lord protects and preserves them—  they are counted among the blessed in the land— he does not give them over to the desire of their foes. The Lord sustains them on their sickbed and restores them from their bed of illness.

Even my close friend, someone I trusted, one who shared my bread,  has turned against me.
I know that you are pleased with me, for my enemy does not triumph over meBecause of my integrity you uphold me and set me in your presence forever.
Why?
Blessed are those who have regard for the weak, for God is love, so we are his sons we should regard for the weak men.
God not only regards the weak but also protects and preserves them, even restores them fro their bed of illness. Our life is in the hands of the Lord.
Even my friend who may betray me, but I know that God blesses with me, for my enemy does not triumph over me. God is good.
Because of my integrity, God uphold me, so the requirement is to be integrity.
----------

How?
Let my heart, my mind, and my strength be integrity and follow the word of the Lord.

But as for me, I am poor and needy; may the Lord think of me.

Psalm 40:1-17
ManyLord my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us.
None can compare with youwere I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare.
Sacrifice and offering you did not desire— but my ears you have opened— burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not require.
Then I said, “Here I am, I have come— it is written about me in the scroll. I desire to do your will, my God; your law is within my heart.
For troubles without number surround memy sins have overtaken me, and I cannot see. They are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart fails within me.
But as for me, I am poor and needy; may the Lord think of me. You are my help and my deliverer; you are my God, do not delay. The psalmist has openly declared God's marvellous dealings with him. He looks back to the moment of rescue with deep thankfulness, and spells out for others the things he has learned about God. But his troubles are not yet over. He is still conscious of his need. He is still afresh to God for help.
The New Testament sees a deeper significance in this psalm, especially verse 7-8.
Why?
God has done may wonder on me, the things I can't count it.
Yes, no one compares with you, Lord,  there are so many to decalre.
Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, God doesn't like the symbolic matter or ceremony action, God looks into our heart.
I have to humble before the Lord, for I am a sinner, May the Lord think of me.
How?
Pray to the Lord keep my heart always focusing on Him.

the way上帝的道 The word of God

But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you

Psalm 39:1-13
Show me, Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting my life is.
You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Everyone is but a breath, even those who seem secure.
Surely everyone goes around like a mere phantom; in vain they rush about, heaping up wealth without knowing who’s e it will finally be.
But now, Lord, what do I look for? My hope is in you.
Hear my prayer, Lord, listen to my cry for help; do not be deaf to my weeping. I dwell with you as a foreigner, a stranger, as all my ancestors were. Look away from me, that I may enjoy life again before I depart and am no more.
The psalmist struggles to contain his thoughts, for fear of dishonoring God, but they bust out. He feels death at his shoulder; life as insubstantial as a puff of wind. And he cries out to God to reassure and forgive him, and to remove his troubles.
Why?
Our life is like breadth, and flee away. Everything in the world is like a wine and gone, so as our life.
We are the foreigner, traveler. May God looks away from me, that I may enjoy life agains before I depart and am no more.
How?
My hope is in you, my Lord!

repay my good with evil lodge accusations against me, though I seek only to do what is good.

Psalm 38:1-22
Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger. Because of your wrath there is no healthy in my body’ there is no soundness in my bones because of my sin. My built has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear.’
Those who want to kill me set their traps, those who would harm me talk of my ruin; all day long they scheme and lie.
For I am about to fall, and my pain is ever with me. I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin. Many have Beyoncé my enemies without cause.
Those who repay my good with evil lodge accusations against me, though I seek only to do what is good.
Lord, do not forsake me; do not be far from me, my God.
This is the third of seven ‘repenting’ psalms:  Sin has resulted in physical sickness, as well as mental anguish. Friends and family stand aloof, and the opposition have the chance they have been waiting for. The psalmist admits his sin, with bitter regret.
Why?
David was under trouble and heavy burden, he confess his sins before the Lord.
David asked the Lord forsake his sins and help him from enemies.
All day long they scheme and lie upon David, so David was under dangerous situation.
God is David only savior.
How?
Treat others with love and mercy, and we have aware of the evildoers and many people with lie tong. Pray to the Lord for God’s grace and help will be with us.

The salvation of the righteous comes from the Lord; he is their stronghold in time of trouble

Psalm 37:21-40
The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.
The law of their God is in their hearts; their feet do not slip.
The wicked lie in wait for the righteous, intent on putting them to death; but the Lord will not leave them in the power of the wicked or let them be condemned when brought to trial.
Hope in the Lord and keep his way. He will exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are destroyed, you will see it.
The salvation of the righteous comes from the Lord; he is their stronghold in time of trouble. The Lord helps them and delivers them; he deliver them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him.
Why?
Though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand. So we do not frustrated at some disappointed  matter or trouble, for the Lord is my salvation and my delivery. God will upholds us with his mighty hands.
The law of the Lord are in my heart. It is not in our mouth, so we can do the right things.
Trust in the Lord and walking in God’s way, take refuge in the Lord is the right way.
Why have to envy the other rich men or seems successful men. God has the best plan on me. But joy and delight with the Lord is the best blessing.
How?
Exalt the Lord in my heart and keep my heart pure and do the good matters.

Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; the wicked will perish.

Psalm 37:1-19
Do not fret because of those who are evil or be envious of those who do wrong; for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away.
Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this
Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.
Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret - it leads only to evil.
A little while, and the wicked will be no more, though you look for them, they will not be found. But the need will inherit the land and enjoy peace and prosperity.
For the power of the wicked will be broken, but the Lord upholds the righteous.
In times of disaster they will not wither; in days of famine they will enjoy plenty. But the wicked will perish.
It is a collection of the proverbial sayings that the wisdom writer loved and according to which, no matter how things look, the good will prosper , the wicked be punished.
Wherever you look, people are flagrantly disobeying God’s law, and getting away with it. Don’t be tempted to envy them, says the psalmist. Thing are not what they seem. The wicked are in a far from enviable position. Their time will soon be up, but blessing and security await God’s people. Go on doing gods; be patient; trust God to act.
Why?
Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him. This is our action have to obey.
Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret - it leads only to evil. So obey this.
God knows everyone’s heart, God has his plan and his time. We should wait and be still.

God's unfailing love

Psalm 36:1-12
Concerning the sinfulness of the wicked: There is no fear of God before their eyes.
Your loveLord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.
Your righteousness is like the highest mountainsyour justice like the great deep. You, Lord, preserve both people and animals.
How priceless is your unfailing love, O God! People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
They feast on the abundance of your houseyou give them drink from your river of delights.
For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.
See how the evildoers lie fallen thrown down, not able to rise!
v1-4 picture human wickedness: the person totally committed to his own evil ways.
v5-10 contrast the character of God-loving, faithful, good; the source of life and light and all the good that we enjoy.
v11-12 are a personal prayer, with the answer concluding the psalm.
Why?
Evil men they are no fear of God seems good to them but when the judge time coming they will be judged by God's righteousness.
God's love and faithfulness to the skied so we do not fear the evil men.
God gives ut the fountain of life, so in God's light, we see light and enjoy drinking from God's river of delight.
In contrast the evildoers lie fallen, we will see it.
———-

May they always say, “The Lord be exalted, who delights in the well-being of his servant.”

Psalm 35:11-28
Yet when they were ill, I put on sackcloth and humbled myself with fasting. When my prayers returned to me unanswered, I went about mourning as though for my friend or brother. I bowed my head in grief as though weeping for my mother.
But when I stumbled, they gathered in gleeassailants gathered against me without my knowledge. They slandered me without ceasing.
How long, Lord, will you look on? Rescue me from their ravages, my precious life from these lions.
May all who gloat over my distress be put to shame and confusion; may all who exalt themselves over me be clothed with shame and disgrace.
May those who delight in my vindication shout for joy and gladness; may they always say, “The Lord be exalted, who delights in the well-being of his servant.”
Then he will praise God and tell others of his righteousness.
Why?
This world full of evil men and unrighteous men.
David thought he is innocent, but so many people do against him. The only way is to ask for help from the Lord.
How long, Lord, will you look on? It is a very urgent situation, David prayed to the Lord.
Four pray to the Lord, may the enemies be shame and confusion, may my vindication shout for joy and gladness.
------------------
-----------------
How?
Pray to the Lord for all my affair, because God is my savior and my fortress. What I can do is wait for God's work.

Who is like you, Lord? You rescue the poor from those too strong for them, the poor

Psalm 35:1-10
Contend, Lord, with those who contend with mefight against those who fight against me.
May those who seek my life be disgraced and put to shamemay those who plot my ruin  be turned back in dismay.
My whole being will exclaim, Who is like you, Lord?  You rescue the poor from those too strong for them, the poor and needy from those who rob them.”
Confident that right is on his side, the Islamist calls on God to pay bach his enemies in their own coin and clear his good name.
Why?
No for the revenge but David asked the Lord in his righteousness to treat his enemy. It seemed condemned those enemies, but this is the situation and his emotion expressed.
Who is like you, Lord, God is my savior, rescue the poor and needy from those who rob them.
----------------

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Psalm 34:1-22
This poor man called, and the Lord heard him; he saved him out of all his troublesThe angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.
Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. Fear the Lord, you his holy people,  for those who fear him lack nothing.
Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling liesTurn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all
The Lord will rescue his servants; no one who takes refuge in him will be condemned.
A man with such a story to tell of God's faithfulness cannot help sharing it. He owes it to God and his fellow believers. In the psalmist's experience, the person who honors God finds life. His misfortunes may be many, but God brings him through them all.
Why?
My God is a living God, you may test and see the Lord is good.
God is full of mercy who close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Do not fear and come close to the Lors.
To be a righteous man who lacks nothing, even there are many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all. How great is the Lord!
How?
Keep away from evil and be a righteous man through the blood of Jesus Christ.

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he chose for his inheritance

Psalm 33:1-22
Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him. For the word of the Lord is right and true; he is faithful in all he does.
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lordthe people he chose for his inheritance.
No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength. A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot saveBut the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing loveto deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.
We wait in hope for the Lordhe is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love be with us, Lordeven as we put our hope in you.
Tune-up the instruments Sing for joy and burst into song. Look, hear, what God has done! Sing God's praises for who he is. Worship the Creator and stand in awe of him. Praise his sovereign rule in human affairs - his unfailing care for all who honor him. Sing a song of trust in him.
Why?
Sing a new song to the Lord with many instruments for God is faithful in all he does.
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, it is not by anyone or any strength or force and wealth. For God is the fountain for the blessing.
My God is mighty God, He has unfailing love to those who fear Him.
--------------
How?
What we can do is wait in hope for the Lord. May your unfailing love be with us, Lord.
