Anguish and Comforted life

Luke 16:19-31
The rich man and Lazarus had different life manner in the world, but when they died, there is opposite living manner between them.
Anguish in Hades and comforted in Abraham's side.
If they do not hear Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.
This story is the only 'named' character in Jesus' story. Jesus may have taken a popular folk tale, using it in his own way.
The scenes are vividly pictured: a rich man with everything, a poor man with nothing. Yet Lazarus goes to bliss, his head resting against the greatest father Abraham at the heavenly feast. Justice has been done and there is no changing it
Why?
Those words are bound to make Luke's readers think of Jesus' own resurrection.
Hedes陰間is different with gehenna地獄. Hades is unbeliever dead and waiting for the great white Throne Judgement. Soul in Hades has feeling, memory and sensitivity. After the the great white Throne Judgement, evildoers and unbelievers will be in the lake of fire; Gehenna.
Jesus is the one who rose from the dead. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
How?
Don't desire has the living style of rich man, live under the blessing of the Lord is the best one in my life. Comforted and peace life in the world and in heaven is my desire.

HS: Manager of God: Faithful and shrewd

Luke 16:1-18
Shrewdness: 精明astute or sharp in practical matters: a shrewd politician.
The sons of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than the sons of light.
If you have not been faithful in that which is another's, who will give you that which is your own.
No servant can serve two masters. You cannot serve God and money.
What is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.
The good news of the kingdom of God is preached, and everyone is forcefully urged into it.
Why?
All we have in this world are belong to the mater- the Lord, we are the manager of God. One day we will leave here, so we have to make our own secure in the future.
Jesus tells his disciples commends the manager's astuteness, not his dishonesty.

Sons of light should be astute to get the security and prize in heaven.
He knows how to make money work for him. So his future is secured.
Money is another's, not eternal matter. If we cannot faithful in these jobs, how can God trust us to do more important task and give us more treasure in heaven.
How?
Don't be a foolish Christian, skilled to do everything in this world, earn more security in heaven.

Lost and found a new life

Luke 15:11-32
The parable of the prodigal son.
Prodigal son: he squandered his property in reckless living, and severe famine arose there.
The son said to his father 'I have sinned against heaven and before you, I am no longer worthy to be called your son.'
Father said to his older son,'Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours. It was fitting to celebrate and be glad, for your brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost, and is found.'
Why?
Lost is through reckless living, don't know the truth. Foolish plus bad environment may lead one be poor.
All of us are the lost son to our God, we are sinner against heaven. When we repent and turn back to heavenly father. He always accept us.
To be a Christan for longer time, don't be frustrate to someone living in reckless living. My property is in heaven.
Robe means the position, ring means power, shoes means acknowledge the identity of son. Slave is barefoot.
Little son may take 1/3 of father's property, older son may take 2/3 of the property.
How?
Repent is very important to everyone, our heavenly father always joyful to accept our repentance.

Joice for one sinner who repents

Luke 15:1-10
Jesus was criticized he receives sinners and eats with them.
There will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.
Jesus said two parables of lost one sheep and lost a silver coin.
Why?
One silver coin is about one day's wage a man.
People like to judge other as their stand law, but they don't check for themselves first.
Why we won't look other with the love and good opportunity. We need to see in wisdom but with more love. We should identify the right and wrong, but love everyone.
How?
Be humble and love others even they looks no beauty or no clean. The Lord looks as is the same situation.

No one can follow Him unless they are prepared for all that this means

Luke 14:15-35
The banquet of kingdom of God is ready, the king sent many servants to invite guests. But they all alike to make excuses. Such as
1. Bought a field, he have to go out and see it.
2. Bought five yoke of oxen, go to examine them.
3. Have married a wife ; all are take care their own business, prosession, etc.
It is blessing that the people beside highway and hedges may invited to this banquet. Those who rejected the invitation shall taste God's banquet. The mercy of the Lord is worldwide, if you accept it, then the blessing is come.
Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after Jesus cannot be Jesus' disciple. Before to be a disciple of Jesus have to know the cost has to pay, like to prepare a war to a kingdom, or like desiring to build a tower have to count the cost.
To be a Christian should be like Salt which is good, but if lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored. It is thrown away.
He who has ears to heat, let him hear.
Why?
Those who rate other things more important will exclude themselves, with no second chance.
Great crowds are following Jesus, unaware of what it will mean outweigh all other, quite proper, claims.
He is not saying hate your family! but 'love me more'.
No one can follow him unless they are prepared for all that this means. They need to reckon up. Can they afford than to follow? (The price is no less than everything they have. On the other hand, can they afford to refuse.
How?
Bear the cross of our own to follow Jesus. The price is I can afford.

Humbles himself will be exalted.

Luke 14:1-14
Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.
Give dinner or banquet to the needed persons, such as the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you.
Why?
Banquet is make for the kingdom of God.
Jesus questions, 'Is it lawful?' and 'Wouldn't you...?' leave his critics speechless.
Guests were carefully seated according to rank and status , but everyone wants a seat at the top table. Jesus commends a genuinely humble spirit, not false modesty.
Real generosity does not look for return.
In order to eat bread in God's kingdom it is necessary only to say yes when the invitation comes.
How?
Is it lawful? Wouldn't you...? Yes, when I query other, let query us first.

Strive to seek the entrance to kingdom of God

Luke 13:22-35
Strive to enter through the narrow door. For many, will seek to enter and will not be able.
Be hold, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Jesus laments to people of Jerusalem rejected gospel.
Jesus said to some Pharisees what will happen in next three days. Jesus must go on his way to Jerusalem. He knows he will perish there.
Jesus does not answer the question directly.'Don't ask how many'.  Just make sure you seek entrance to God's kingdom. Many will try, yet fail.
There will be surprises. Time is limited.
Jesus is not bothered by Herod's threats. He knows what lies ahead, and grieves at the fate of the city that will destroy him.
Why?
Today, tomorrow and the day following means very short time in Jews. Jesus has short time in the world, but he have to complete his works.
Don't ask how many people will repent and enter the kingdom of God, do our best to seek entrance to God's kingdom.
Someone heard the good news but they do not follow and believes in Jesus so they fell and could not enter the kingdom of God.
How?
Do my best to seek the entrance to kingdom of God.
