Luke 11:37-54
Jesus said to Pharisee and the experts in the law, six woes.
1. Give God a tenth of your mint, but you neglect justice and the love of God.
2. Love the most important seats in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces.
3. Like unmarked graves, which men walk over without knowing it.
4You load people down with burdens they can hardly carry, and you yourselves will not lift one finger to help them.
5. You build tombs for the prophets, and it was your forefathers who killed them. This generation will be held responsible for the blood of all the prophets that has been shed since the beginning of the world.
6. You have taken away the key to knowledge, and you have hindered those who were entering.
Why?
Justice and the love of God is more important than give God a tenth.
Christian should not care the seat position, be humble
Don't lead wrong way to those we are seeking the truth.
Help people who are in needed.
Have knowledge and share it to others who like to know.
How?
Practice what I have learn from the Bible and love others for God has loved me. Don't be doing anything as Pharisee.

Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.
Luke 11:14-36
Any kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and a house divided against itself will fall. But if I drive out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.
Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.
Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.
This is a wicked generation. It asks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah. The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and now something greater than Jonah is here.
No one lights a lamp and puts it in a place where it will be hidden, or under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, so that those who come in may see the light. therefore, if your whole body is full of light, and no part of it dark, it will be just as full of light as when a lamp shines its light on you.
Only Luke typically records the woman's voice from the crowd. Jesus does not reject her words but makes a more important point.
Why?
Jesus drive devil out by the power of God, not the demon. It is unreasonable to a kingdom to stand up.
Blessed are those who hear the word of God and obey it. It hear the word of God but do not obey it, it is meaningless.
This is a wicked generation, it asks for a sign, asks for interesting, but forsake the truth and salvation.
Jesus is greater than Jonah, but people do not repent. Jesus is the savior to us, if does not repent and turn to God, there is downfall to themselves.
How about my heart to the word of God?
How?
Carefully listen to the word of God and obey his word in my daily life.

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you
Luke 11:1-13
How to pray?
Father. hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. Give us each day out daily bread. Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation.
Because of the man's boldness he will get up and give him as much as he needs.
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks fonds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
Matthew gives the longer form of the Lord's Prayer. Jesus is supplying both a prayer to be prayed and 'model' on which to base other prayers.
Jesus' followers come to God, not as subjects to 'the Master of the Universe' but as children to the best of fathers: simply, sharing his concerns and confidently telling him of their own needs. They must not be discouraged if time goes by and they see no answer. Persistence, in the end, wins over even the most reluctant friend - and there is no reluctance to answer on God's part.
Why?
Jesus tough us how to pray, 1) honor the Lord 2) our daily needs 3) erase our sins 4) not into temptation, overcome the trick.
Persistence pray at the time of the Lord, God will give us.
Pray in faith to the Lord will have answer from the Lord and beyond than we expected.
How?
Pray with faith in the Lord and Jesus Christ.

Love your neighbor as yourself
Luke 10:25-42
What must I do to inherit eternal life?
Love the Lord your God with all your strength and with all your mind, and Love your neighbor as yourself.
Who is my neighbor?
The one who had mercy on the needy people. The Samaritan he traveled came where the mas was, he took pity on him. Btu a priest and Levite were went away.
Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.
Only Luke tells the famous story of the 'good Samartan'. Jesus gives a textbook answer to the lawyer's question about eternal life. Chagrined, and attempting to save face, he asks another. Instead of answering directly. Jesus replies with a parable.
There was a long history of hatred between Jew and Samaritan, though the Samaritans, like the Jews, held the law sacred. The Jews regarded them as scum- untouchables. Yet Jesus has this 'enemy' carrying out the law, whereas the injured man's fellow Jews - even the religious leaders - fail. A real 'neighbor' is one who does the loving thing whenever and wherever occasion arises, regardless of the deepest enmity敵意 or antagonism對抗.
Only Like tells this story. The tow sisters and their brother Lazarus lived at Bethany, near Jerusalem. Martha gets into a state, slaving to prepare an elaborate meal. She would have done better to keep the menu simple and leave time to listen to Jesus, as Mary did.
Why?
The wrong thing did to Martha is she put her position beyond Jesus Christ.
Jesus told us how to get the eternal life.
Regardless of the deepest enmity or antagonism love the needy one. Help them.
Prepare food for guest is good, but don't forget the more important thing is come together with guest and listen to his talk.
How?
Teacher, Martha and Mary which one is me? May my heart could turn to more like Mary and the Samaritan. Have mercy to others and careful listen to God's word.

Rejoice that your names are written in heaven
Luke 10:1-24
After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go.
The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.
When you enter a house, first say, ‘Peace to this house.’ If someone who promotes peace is there, your peace will rest on them; if not, it will return to you.
Whoever listens to you listens to me; whoever rejects you rejects me; but whoever rejects me rejects him who sent me.
I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.
Blessed are the eyes that see what you see.
Compare this with Jesus' instructions to the Twelve. The number 70 may perhaps symbolize the nations of the world.
They are sent out in pairs. Entrusted with God's good news, they are entitled to support from the people they go to. But they are not to look for luxury (the 'going from house to house',7, is with a view to better living). Time is too precious to waste on endless social formalities. There is work to be done, a message to be made known. And God himself will judge those who reject it. The 70 are overjoyed at their new power. But greater cause for joy is the certainty of eternal life.
Why?
Two by two to every town, much more places to go.
Harvest is plentiful, but the worker are few. Preaching gospel need people, but many like easy work, such as support money, but more needs are worker to go.
Blessing with peace to you is the best welcome message, for there is not peace on the world.
Missionary is messenger of the Jesus Christ, so rejects them rejects Jesus, reject Jesus is rejects the Lord.
Jesus has given us the authority to overcome all the power of the enemy. With name of Jesus has the power to trample on snakes and scorpions.
Do not rejoice to what we have done but for our names are written in heaven. Care the name on heaven instead of the work in the world.
How?
The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest. Humble myself before the Lord, to be a good messenger.

No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God
Luke 9:44-62
Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For it is the one who is least among you all who is the greatest.
For whoever is not against you is for you.
“I will follow you wherever you go.” Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”
He said to another man, “Follow me.” 1)“Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”. I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family.
Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”
Much of what is recorded in these chapters is unique to Luke. Jesus' sight is set on Jerusalem and what lies before him there. The framework of the journey is clear, but not the route. The 'interval' between the Galilee days and Jesus' last week is used by Luke to bring together much of Jesus teaching on the general theme of disciple.
The direct route from Galilee to Jerusalem passed through Samaritan territory, Jerusalem was the center of worship for the Jews but not for the Samaritans. They had their own temple on Mt Gerizim, close to Shechem. So this village was not going to help Jesus on his way to the rival shrine.
Why?
The greatest one among Christian should be the least among them, be humble to server others, and welcome others in Jesus name.
Jesus' way is not the way of the world, it is hard life and tough way, even have not place to lay his head. No place to sleep, no property in the world.
If puts a hand to the plow and looks back, then he does not know what he is working on.
There is no excuse to serve if follow Jesus. Devotion is necessary to anyone like to follow Jesus. For my life my time and my everything are God's mercy and grace. Without Jesus I have nothing.
How?
Serve the Lord have to focus on the Lord, do not hesitate to serve others.

The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men
Luke 9:18-43
Jesus asked his disciples, "Who do you say I am?" Only Peter answered,"The Christ of God."
The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, chief priests and teachers of the law, and he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.
O unbelieving and perverse generation, Jesus replied, "how long shall I stay with you and put up with you?
Listen carefully to what I am about to tell you: The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men. But they did not understand what this meant.
O unbelieving and perverse generation...
It seems, to me at least, that Jesus is blaming the suffering of this child on the perversity of the generation. Jesus is angry because the wickedness of a generation is causing children to suffer--physically, psychologically and spiritually. Children continue to suffer in our world because we are an unbelieving and perverse generation.
Why?
Jesus follows the command of the Lord will be killed and on the third day be raised to life.
We trust our life, we make decision by ourselves.
How you give your life for God's sake?
How?
Jesus walked on the way of God, how about me? what is my way before the Lord?
No matter what our torments or difficulties, it is good to know, and important to feel, that we have a compassionate Savior who does not seek to condemn us, but rather wishes to deliver us. When we feel that in life we are particularly oppressed by the judgments we feel from others, and our own anxieties and insecurities, it is of the utmost importance that we know that the most powerful beings in the universe are looking out for us, and that They have our back.

Faith is more important then food, throuth his disciples to give
Luke 9:1-17
Jesus sends out the Twelve. They set out and went from village to village, preaching the gospel and healing people everywhere.
Take nothing for the journey- no staff, no bad, no money, no extra tunic. Whatever house you enter , stay there until you leave that town. If people do not welcome you, shake the dust off your feet when you leave their town, as a testimony against them.
Jesus feeds the five thousand through five loaves and the two fish. Jesus taking it and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke them. Then he gave them to the disciples to set before the people.
This time they are to go as they are, travelling light.
Luke seems to have a special source of information about Herod, perhaps through Joanna.
The feeding is a miracle and a 'sign' which indicates Jesus' true identity. It may also anticipate the Messiah's banquet-feast with his people.
Why?
Jesus have the right change everything and multiple anything. Jesus looking up to heaven, gave thanks mean he was praying to the Lord and miracle happened.
Take nothing for the journey is serving the Lord and preaching gospel to the world, so the world will support their needs, but to those who does not welcome them, shake the dust off your feed to testimony against them. This is a spiritual testimony.
Good news is the gospel and healing. through Jesus Christ.
Jesus let his apostles leaned living by the faith instead of the material, food.
God's food gave to the people through hands of his disciples, so as God blesses people through his follower, Christian.
How?
Jesus is my Lord, we are living by the faith, instead by the food, get food is more easy than get the faith. We are the media to give blessing to others.

I am the resurrection and the life
Luke 8:26-56
Jesus restores a demon-possessed man.
Then all the people of the region of the Gerasenes asked Jesus to leave them, because they were overcome with fear. So he got into the boat and left.
The man from whom the demons had gone out begged to go with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying, “Return home and tell how much God has done for you.”
Jesus raises a dead girl and a sick woman.
Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. Then he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.”
Meanwhile, all the people were wailing and mourning for her. “Stop wailing,” Jesus said. “She is not dead but asleep.”They laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. But he took her by the hand and said, “My child, get up!” Her spirit returned, and at once she stood up.
Why?
Jesus power over demons, so Jesus restored a demon-possessed man, but people overcome with fear, they asked Jesus leave them. It is fool decision. Because they did not know what is most important.
It is not everyone has follow Jesus as apostle, but return home and tell how much God has done for us, is beautiful thing either.
Faith in Christ had power to heal us and save us.
Jesus knew who touched him, Jesus like to reveal the faith of this girl to show her faith to others so he asked peter who touched me.
The second case that Jesus raised the life of a girl. Jesus has power over the dead, and man needs spirit to live.
I am the resurrection and the life. (John 11:23)
How?
Let people know Jesus who is he, no matter what situation a man has, Jesus is their way and life.

Consider carefully how you listen
Luke 8:1-25
Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God.
The meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God.
Though seeing, they may not see; though hearing, they may not understand.
For their is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing hidden that will not be known or brought out into the open. Therefor consider carefully how you listen. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has will be taken from him.
In fear and amazement they asked one another. "Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him."
Only Luke tells us the part the women played in Jesus' mission. Susanna is not mentioned again. Mary Magdalene stood watching at the crucifixion, and she and Joanna were at the tomb and saw the Lord on the resurrection morning. Their love, and that of many other women who followed him from Galilee, never wavered.
Why?
Jesus proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God, this is the most important missing to Jesus.
The seed fell on good soil means a good listener may take it into practice.
Carefully how you listen. I should be carefully listen.
Who is this? Jesus is the son of God. He can command everything in the world.
Jesus is the light, and it won't be hidden. It will not be disclosed.
How?
Carefully listen to the word in Bible and in church sermon.

But wisdom is proved right by all her children
Luke 7:24-50
This is the one about whom it is written: “‘I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.’ I tell you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.” This is the John Baptist.
For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon.’The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is proved right by all her children.
Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.
Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”
This is a different incident from the one recorded in the other Gospels. Simon shows Jesus no special courtesy. But a common prostitute, to whom he has opened up the possibility of forgiveness, pours out her gratitude in lavish love, not caring what anyone thinks. Jesus reads Simon's thoughts and takes them up in his story. The woman's love does not earn forgiveness, it follows it.
Why?
But wisdom is proved right by all her children. Only one who follows Jesus have real wisdom from the Lord.
Women's faith save her and earned forgiveness.
John Baptist is the one greatest in the world, who is Jesus messenger ahead of Jesus.
Jesus has the authority to forgive one's sins. For Jesus is son of God.
Love Jesus more has faith in Jesus, so earn forgiveness much more.
She knew sins, and confessed she has sins. She knew who is Jesus and know he will forgive her sins.
How?
Do I sensed I have sins? Yes. I do. Only the sinner who needs Jesus.

Jesus is Lord of life and death
Luke 7:1-23
Jesus doesn't need to come but say a word the servant of the centurion was healed for his faith to Jesus Christ. Jesus marvels at his faith.
Jesus raises a widow's son. They were all filled with awe and praised God. "A great prophet has appeared among us," they said. "God has come to help his people." This news about Jesus spread throughout Judea and the surrounding country.
John sent his disciples to ask Jesus, "Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else? "Jesus replied to the messengers, “Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor. Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.”
Only Luke, with his concern for the underprivileged, records the raising of this widow's son. Her brings the story in at this point in relation to the report back to John. Jesus , ever-compassionate, is Lord of life and death.
Why?
These super healing or natural healing are miracle to all of us.
Jesus raised a dead man, son of a widow, it shows Jesus is the Lord of life and death. Jesus cared about the sorrow of man.
Who is Jesus? Jesus is son of God come to save all of us, sinner. Only son of God can raise man from death. Only God can heal the blind receive sight, the lame walk, leprosy are cleaned, the deaf hear, the dead are raised and the good news is proclaimed to the poor.
Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of Jesus. Jesus is the way of life and hope.
How?
Look and trust in Jesus Christ. Do not doubt when we face trouble, faith can help us cross the gap and fail.

Look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye
Luke 6:39-49
Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?
No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. Each tree is recognized by its own fruit.
Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say?
I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. He is like a man building a house and laid the foundation on rock.
After all are healed, he speaks directly to his followers. They know what it is to be literally poor and hungry and sad and hated on account of the Son of Man. Their hardships will be turned to blessing. Jesus says, 'for surely your reward is great in heaven.
By contrast, alas for those who have it all now.
The law of love is to 'do to others as you would have them do to you, including those who do us down.
Why?
Before judge others first humble myself, we have our fault. We are not better than others.
Bad or good man rely on what your behavior.
Jesus is my Lord so I will follow his word, put them into practice. Then I will really know the meaning of God's word. Then I can stand firm during bad environment.
Do I staying in church for longer period and I like to be a teacher? Do think so, let our life growing up with our brothers.
How?
Always be humble among fellowship and brothers, even I am teaching but with humble altitude.

Do to others as you would have them do to you
Luke 6:17-38
Jesus looking at his disciples, he said:
Blessed are you who are poor, hunger , weep, men hate you because of the Son of Man. for yours is the kingdom of God.
Woe ton you who are rich, well fed, laugh, when all men speak well of you, for that is how their fathers treated the false prophets.
Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
Do to others as you would have them do to you.
Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Give, and it will be given to you.
Luke's Sermon on the Plain', parallels Matthew's collection of teaching in the 'Sermon on the Mount', but is shorter. Jesus must have taught the same truths on many different occasions.
Having chosen the Twelve, Jesus comes some distance down the mountainside to a level area. Here he sit down to teach, and gathered around him are the apostles, his followers and a great crowd of people who have come to hear him and be healed.
Why?
Jesus teaching are different as humans thought. It is not eyes to eyes, teeth to teeth. But love beyond any other hate and argument.
Blessed are whose who are poor, hunger for gospel and be hated for the Son of Man. Woe to whose who are rich, well fed... for they do not come close to Jesus. They are proud for what they have.
Love your enemies is not easy, very difficulty to anyone, but for the Lord have loved us, and only love may conquer the hate.
How?
May God's love help me to do good to those who mistreated me and love them with love of Jesus.

Jesus, SOn of Man is Lord of the Sabbath
Luke 6:1-19
The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.
Jesus knew what they were thinking and said to the man with the shriveled hand, "Get up and stand in front of everyone." So he got up and stood there.
Which is lawful in the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?
Jesus said to the man, "stretch out your hand." He did so, and his hand was completely restored.
But they were furious and began to discuss with one another what they might do to Jesus.
One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles.
Only Luke tells us of Jesus' night of prayer before announcing his choice. He tells us more about Jesus as a man of prayer than any other Gospel writer.
Why?
Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath.
Jesus did not work for anything he said to them. Even doing right things are better than do the evil or do nothing.
Sabbath is to remember the Lord, respect the Lord. Jesus is the Lord so he did healing is good to the people.
But many people focused on the Laws instead of mercy, love and grace. And does not acknowledge Jesus is the Lord.
Why?
Jesus is prayer everyday, Jesus is a man of prayer, how about me? Should be a man of prayer either.
How about my life of Christian, don't be a lawful man, let the love and mercy of the Lord could be in my heart. And love others with love of Jesus.
Do the right things but with love and mercy and wisdom.
How?
Don't be a stuck man in the law but with love and joy in my life.

I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
Luke 5:27-39
Jesus answered them, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance."
Can you make the guests of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them; in those days they will fast.
New wine must be poured into new wine skins. And no one after drinking old wants the new, for he says, 'The old is better."
For other parties where Jesus was guest.
Why?
The old is better: People don't like to change, they challenge the new one and accustomed to the old style, original living style.
Jesus come to save sinners, actually no one is righteous in the world. Anyone sensed he is a sinner, then he will need Jesus.
When I am talking about Jesus with others, can I like Jesus let people come close to me, and like with me with joy.
How?
Jesus please help me, give me more wisdom and joy to talk with others about Jesus.

Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins
Luke 5:12-26
A man came along who was covered with leprosy. When he saw Jesus, he fell with his face to the ground and begged him, "Lord, if your are willing, you can make me clean."
But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.
Friend, your sins are forgiven. Who can forgive sins but God alone?
Which is easier:to say, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say 'Get up and walk?' But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.
Everyone was amazed and gave praise to God. They were filled with awe and said," We have seen remarkable things today."
This miracle, and the one that follows, show Jesus' compassion. The man was an advanced case, 'full of leprosy.' Yet Jesus is prepared to touch the untouchable.
Jesus reads the thoughts of his questioners. And Luke notes that the man and all who saw what happened recognized the miracle as God's doing.
Why?
Those who setting in front of Jesus became obstacle to the one who want to being healed through Jesus.
The man with leprosy was fell down and confess his sins before Jesus. so he could be healed.
Jesus away from the crowd, for most people like the miracle in stead of knowing Jesus.
People know that only God can forgive sins, and Jesus is the Son of Man, he has authority to do it.
People amazed what Jesus did, but more important is confess our sins and turn to the Jesus Christ.
Jesus came to forgive us from sins, and give us eternal life.
How?
Don't be an obstacle to those who comes to knowing Jesus. Be a good missioner of Gospel.

Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!
Luke 5:1-11
Jesus chose Simon's boat and said to him, "Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch."
Simon answered, 'Master, we've worked hard all night and haven't caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets."
When Simon Peter saw this he fell at Jesus' knees and said, "Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!"
Jesus said to Simon "Don't be afraid; from now on you will catch men." So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.
Matthew and Mark simply record Jesus' call to the fishermen to follow him. Luke's story shows that this was based on more than casual contact. In the first of the three miracles recorded in 5:1-26. Jesus moves in on Peter's area of expertise. The huge catch, made against all the norms, brings Peter to his knees. God is at work, and Peter is no saint.
Why?
Jesus moved into Peter's area of expertise, and Peter didn't rejoice but he fell at Jesus and said 'I am a sinful man!' It is the work of God in heart of Peter.
Peter was follow the word of Jesus even Peter is a professional fisherman. This is the key point.
Peter accepted Jesus' word then left everything and followed Jesus. Take into action immediately.
How?
What is my relationship with the Lord, can I hear the calling of the Lord and follow Jesus? The key point is knowing that Jesus is the Lord in everything.

I know who you are - the Holy One of God
Luke 4:31-44
In Capernaum, Jesus drives out an evil spirit. I know who you are - the Holy One of God. The demon cried out.
All the people were amazed and said to each, 'What is this teaching? With authority and power he gives orders to evil spirits and they come out.
The people were looking for Jesus and keep him from leaving them. But he said, "I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent."
Luke picks up Mark's narrative at this point, but by placing the two synagogue/sabbath stories next to one another brings out the sharp contrast in people's response to Jesus. He also adds personal touches. The 'high fever' of verse 38 is a medical term, and he tells us that Jesus laid his hands on those he cured.
Demon: In the ancient world it was widely held that many troubles are caused by evil spirit The bible says little about demon possession before or after the incarnation, but much during Jesus ministry...: this phenomenon is part of the conflict between Jesus, who came to destroy the works of the devil, and evil.
Why?
It is contrast in people's response to Jesus between two towns.
People amazed at Jesus works but with difference response.
Even the demon know who Jesus is - the Holy One of God.
Jesus works with authority and power over demon and fever. Jesus can cure the sicks.
Demon accept Jesus but they did not be saved, so it is not rational understanding, but spiritual turn from sins and accept Jesus as our Lord.
How?
Accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and confess out sins and turn to Jesus Christ.

Listen to God's word without my own concept and idea
Luke 4:14-30
The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovered of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.
Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.
All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. "Isn't this Joseph's son?" they asked.
No prophet is accepted in his hometown. I assure you that there were many widows in Israel in Elijah's time, when they sky was shut for three and a half years and there was a severe famine throughout the land. Yet Elijjah was not sent to any of them, but to a widow in Zarephath in the region of Sidon.
All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this.
Luke chooses to start with Jesus' keynote 'sermon' at the synagogue back home in Nazareth, although this was not the first event in his ministry. Astonishment at Jesus' teaching quickly changes to hostility. And at the implication that because of their disbelief the gospel will be offered to non-Jews, the people are all set to lynch him.
Why?
The gospel is 1)to preach good news to the poor 2)to proclaim freedom for the prisoners 3)recovered of sight for the blind 4)release the oppressed 5)proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.
The Spirit of the Lord is on Jesus so he could proclaim gospel and explain the detail of God's word.
People were amazed at what Jesus said, but they didn't trust in him for they knew Jesus is son of Joseph. They don't think he is the Messiah.
Jesus mentioned Elijah and Elisha, both are great prophets, but they were accepted at other city not accepted at his home town, so as Jesus didn't accept in his hometown. People used their own idea to watch each one. So they could not see the truth.
How?
Before read the Bible or listen to the word of God, I should calm down and humble to read God's word.
All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this.

if you are the Son of God...
Luke 4:1-13
Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spiritinto the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil.
The real target of Satan's attack is Jesus' relationship to his Father:'if you are the Son of God...' These attempts to undermine his confidence and show doubts are not so different from the serpent's approach in Genesis 3 - 'Did God say...? But this time the agent of evil does not succeed. Jesus has the final word, and is left in peace - for a time.
Why?
It is written, Devil used the word of Bible, God's word to test Jesus Christ.
Food, authority and relationship with God are the tempted matter. It is the targets of human being.
The food, authority and faith to the Lord are gift from the Lord.
So Jesus got victory to devil and better than Adam in Genesis.
Devil used the word of Bible to test Jesus, how about me so familiar with Bible like Jesus?
How?
Read God's word and ponder it more deeply. For God's word is my sword and my strength.
Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spiritinto the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil.
1)“If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.”Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.
2)I will give you all their authority and splendor; it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. If you worship me, it will all be yours. Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.
3)“If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down from here. For it is written, He will command his angels concerning you they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'" to guard you carefully;Jesus answered, “It is said: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'
Matthew and Luke begin with the same temptation but differ on the order of the other two. Luke does not bother with the place from which the 'kindgom of the world' are viewed: the glory and authority offered are more important. The real target of Satan's attack is Jesus' relationship to his Father:'if you are the Son of God...' These attempts to undermine his confidence and show doubts are not so different from the serpent's approach in Genesis 3 - 'Did God say...? But this time the agent of evil does not succeed. Jesus is son of God came down to save us
Luke 3:23-38
Now Jesus himself was about thirty years old when he began his ministry.
He was the son, so it was thought, of Joseph...the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.
Luke places his genealogy as a preface to Jesus' ministry. He had reached the age at which a priest, with a proven line of descent, could take up office. Unlike Matthew, Luke takes the line right back to Adam, 'son of God'. The two lists are almost the same from Abraham to David; then they diverse. As a 'son of Adam' Jesus is real man: as 'son of David' he is Messiah. His unique status as 'Son of God' has already been made clear in the birth stories.
Why?
Jesus is son of God and he is a real man, son of David.
Jesus began his ministry when he was thirty years old.
Adam is son of God but dead in the sin, Jesus is son of God as gift to us away from sins.
People come close to religious and like to practice to be a god, but Jesus came from heaven be a man to save all who trust in Him.
How?
Jesus Christ is my savior my hope and my way. There in no one like Him.

Jesus was baptized too, Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove
Luke 3:15-22
The people were waiting expectantly and were all wondering in their hearts if John might possibly be the Messiah. John answered them all, “I baptize you with water. But one who is more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.
Only Luke says that it was as Jesus was praying that a dove-like form was seen and God's voice heard.
Heaven opened: meaning that what followed is a revelation from God.
A dove became the symbol of the Holy Spirit for Christians. For Jews it stood for Israel.
Why?
Jesus different with John is Jesus baptize with Holy Spirit and fire, John baptize with water.
It is shown that Jesus is son of God when Jesus was baptized by John. There were Holy Spirit and voice from heaven.
People wondering if John might possibly be the Messiah, but John said to them no. There is one who powerful than I will come.
The mission of John was done, for Jesus is come. John let people know Jesus is the Messiah.
God, Jesus and Holy Spirit come together when Jesus was baptized.

Produce good fruit
Luke 3:1-14
The word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the wilderness.
He went into all the country around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.
"A voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him. Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill made low. The crooked roads shall become straight, the rough ways smooth. And all people will see God’s salvation.’”
The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.
Which explain what it means to produce good fruit in keeping with repentance. occur only in Luke. Genuine repentance will show itself in daily life - in kindness, generosity, honesty. The soldiers are told, 'No bullying(欺凌); no blackmail, make do with your pay!'
Why?

John is preparing the way for the Lord, prepare the way of Jesus Christ.
Produce good fruit, if not will be cut even is son of Abraham, Ax is ready. Out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. Means not only Jews but foreigner could be son of Abraham.
How?

Amazed at his understanding and his answers
Luke 2:41-52
The boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but their parent were unaware of it. Three later they found Jesus in the the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers.
His mother said to him,'Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you."
"Why were you searching for me?" he asked. "Didn't you know I had to be in my Father's house?"
Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart.
This one story is all we know of Jeuss' boyhood. It must have stood head and shoulders above all Mary's other memories, as perhaps the first indication of all that would follow.
At 12, a Jewish boy underwent preparation for adult status in the religious community. This visit to Jerusalem is therefore a special one for Jesus. Victors flocked into the city for Passover, travelling in large parties for safety.
Jesus parents have no reason to suspect he is missing till the evening halt. Next day they retrace their steps, and on the following morning find him in the Temple. For Jesus, on a rare visit from distant Nazareth, the opportunity to engage with the best teachers is not to be missed. He forgets all about his parents. 'My Father' has priority. This is the first indication that Jesus realized his special relationship with God. The next 18 years are passed over in total silence.
Why?
There were many relative and people came to Jerusalem for Passover festival so Jesus parent unaware of Jesus did not follow them.
Everyone amazed with what Jesus' understanding and answers. For Jesus is understand the word of God.
Here symbolized that Jesus is son of God. And Mary remembered this in her heart.
How?
Understanding the word of God and answer is our ability to the bible as we can. Which needs Holy Spirit inspire us.

Righteous and devout man Simeon and prophet Anna
Luke 2:25-39
Now there was a man in Jerusalem called Simeon, who was righteous and devout. Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying: “Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you may now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all nations: a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.”
The child’s father and mother marveled at what was said about him.
“This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too.”
There was also a prophet, Anna, the daughter of Penuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old; Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem.
It is all routine procedure - until Simeon sees the child. This faithful Jew not only recognizes the Messiah God promised he would see before he died: he sees in him the fulfillment of God's saving purpose for the whole world.
Anna, like Simeon, realizes the hope of a long lifetime in this brief encounter.
The joy of this child's coming is the keynote of the chapter. Simeon's word to Mary comes in sharp contrast to the general tone.
Why?
Simeon and Anna were righteous and devout man and prophet. What they said is could be trusted.
They mentioned that Jesus is Messiah the hope of Israel, God promised one.
So Joseph and Mary marveled at what was said about Jesus.
Jesus caused the falling and rising of many in Israel, and a sword will pierce Mary's soul, means Jesus will die before her.
Jesus us the redemption of Jerusalem.
Jesus Christ is the Lord, our salvation and hope.
Let me live like Simeon and Anna, purely focused on the Lord, living in simple life and with hope and joy with the Lord.
How?
Simeon and Anna could be my example to honor the name of God, living with simple life and devout life.

Amazed at what the shepherds said. It is miracle when you believed it.
Luke 2:15-24
When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.
But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.
The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.
Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord, and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord: “a pair of doves or two young pigeons.”
For the Jewish background to the custom described here. Forty days after Jesus' birth his parents present him to the priest in the Temple. They are not wealthy enough to sacrifice a lamb, so they offer two doves or pigeons.
Why?
Amazed at: People always stand on higher place to listen to other talk. So we have to humble and careful to listen what it is good to our life, no law no reason.
Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in heart. She know what it is going on and she remember what her duty is.
Life of shepherd is changed, they witness the Jesus born and glorifying and praising God. They knew it is work of the Lord. It is miracle when you believed it.
How?
Trust and deliver the message that God gives to me. No matter people listen to it or not.

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.
Luke 2:1-14
In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. So Joseph and Mary went up from Nazareth to the town Bethlehem the town of David.
While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them. and the glory of the Lord shone around them, they were terrified. But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Chris the Lord."
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.
Bethlehem, 9km south of Jerusalem and 110Km south of Nazareth, was the home of Ruth and Boaz and later the birthplace of King David. But for Jesus there was no special guest-room in the town. His cradle was the manger which served the beasts of some householder who took pity on the shelterless couple in their obvious need.
So God's deliverer, 'the Messiah, the Lord' is born. And the message, 'glory to God... and peace pm earth', is born by choirs of angels to simple shepherds minding their flocks on the hillside.
Why?
Sometimes we are caring the messenger but ignore the message content. We are amazing at the super star but escape the real knowledge and message.
Jesus is born for us in manger, this is the sign to all people.
Jesus bring peace to men on whom his favor rests. So angle said do not be afraid, for Jesus come to us with love and peace.
There were not other guests but the angels and shepherd only. The main point is the witness Jesus is born for us in God's time and place.

His name is John, will go on before the Lord to prepare the way of him
Luke 1:57-80
His name is John. Both Zechariah and Elizabeth said.
Everyone who heard this wondered about it, asking, 'What then is this child going to be? For the Lord's hand was with him.
And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way of him, to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace. Zechariah's song.
Neither Mark nor John is interested in the stories of Jesus' birth, and Matthew focuses on Jesus as the Messiah, from the royal line of David, and his fuller account of Jesus' birth adds much to what we know. He must surely have interviewed Mary, Jesus' mother, to have obtained such privileged information. The language and ideas of these chapters reflect his Jewish sources.
The fact that the child was not to be given a family name, and Zechariah's sudden recovery of speech as the Holy Spirit fills him, giving his pent-up thoughts voice in prophetic song, make a deep impression on the people around, Great thing are now expected of John.
Why?
God's blessing and guiding is on John's family, the Holy Spirit is be with them.
