Luke 10:25-42
What must I do to inherit eternal life?
Love the Lord your God with all your strength and with all your mind, and Love your neighbor as yourself.
Who is my neighbor?
The one who had mercy on the needy people. The Samaritan he traveled came where the mas was, he took pity on him. Btu a priest and Levite were went away.
Martha, you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.
Only Luke tells the famous story of the 'good Samartan'. Jesus gives a textbook answer to the lawyer's question about eternal life. Chagrined, and attempting to save face, he asks another. Instead of answering directly. Jesus replies with a parable.
There was a long history of hatred between Jew and Samaritan, though the Samaritans, like the Jews, held the law sacred. The Jews regarded them as scum- untouchables. Yet Jesus has this 'enemy' carrying out the law, whereas the injured man's fellow Jews - even the religious leaders - fail. A real 'neighbor' is one who does the loving thing whenever and wherever occasion arises, regardless of the deepest enmity敵意 or antagonism對抗.
Only Like tells this story. The tow sisters and their brother Lazarus lived at Bethany, near Jerusalem. Martha gets into a state, slaving to prepare an elaborate meal. She would have done better to keep the menu simple and leave time to listen to Jesus, as Mary did.
Why?
The wrong thing did to Martha is she put her position beyond Jesus Christ.
Jesus told us how to get the eternal life.
Regardless of the deepest enmity or antagonism love the needy one. Help them.
Prepare food for guest is good, but don't forget the more important thing is come together with guest and listen to his talk.
How?
Teacher, Martha and Mary which one is me? May my heart could turn to more like Mary and the Samaritan. Have mercy to others and careful listen to God's word.
