Acts 4:23-37
1. When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God.
2. They did what your power and will had decided beforehand should happen.
3. Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. Stretch out your hand to heal and perform miraculous signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.
The believers share their possessions.
Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus, whom the apostles called Barnabas, sold a field he owned and brought the money and put it at the apostles feet.
Released, they pray for boldness, and their prayer is answered.
Why?
The apostles did not pray the Lord get rid off the enemy or troubles.
When troubles and threaten happen, 3 steps, 1. pray to the Lord 2. It is decided beforehand should happen by the Lord. 3. Pray God to help us, stretch God's hand to heal and perform miraculous signs and wonders.
The miraculous signs and wonders are out of our mind and way when we prayed.
The model of first church is formed at that time.
Barnabas is the apostle in the first church built up.
How?
Pray to the Lord through the name of holy servant Jesus, God will help us to face any difficult situation. Give honor to our great God.

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.
Acts 4:1-22
Peter and John before the Sanhedrin.
The stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’
Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.
But Peter and John replied, “Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him? You be the judges! As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.
It is the reaching, centring on the risen Chris, which annoys the Sadducees - naturally enough, since they denied the possibility of resurrection. The resurrection was at the heart of the Christian message from the beginning. Despite the arrest of Peter and John, numbers continue. The Council may warn, but the apostles cannot stop speaking.
Why?
Jesus is the stone of builders but was rejected by Israelites, Jesus Christ has become the cornerstone of church and the truth.
Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind except Jesus Christ.
Peter and John is ordinary men but they could say word to encourage people and let 5000 people repent and praise the Lord. It is the power of Holy Spirit with them and proved Jesus Christ is the Lord.
How?
Trust in Jesus Christ, salvation is found in no other name. Jesus Chris is my salvation and my hope , my way. Be courage!

Through your offspring all peoples on earth will be blessed.
Acts 3:17-26
For Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own people; you must listen to everything he tells you. Anyone who does not listen to him will be completely cut off from their people.’
“Indeed, beginning with Samuel, all the prophets who have spoken have foretold these days.
God said to Abraham, ‘Through your offspring all peoples on earth will be blessed.’ When God raised up his servant, he sent him first to you to bless you by turning each of you from your wicked ways.”
Why?
Peter
not only told how to repent and return to the Lord and spoke Moses, Samuel and Abraham many prophets had foretold this day and Jesus comes from them. And Jesus is plan of the Lord.

By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong
Acts 3:1-16
The temple gate called Beautiful. at the time of prayer—at three in the afternoon.
When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money.
Then Peter said, “Look at us!” “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong.
When all the people saw him walking and praising God, they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.
When Peter saw this, he said to them: You disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a murderer be released to you. You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. We are witnesses of this. By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus’ name and the faith that comes through him that has completely healed him, as you can all see.
Healing and teaching, both made possible by the power of the Spirit of God, go together here, as they did in the ministry of Jesus. The man was sitting at the Temple gate because his disability barred him from entry. As soon as he can walk, he goes in. Something begins to happen when the passersby really look at the beggar and he looks up at them. Peter's message here is much the same as in chapter 2 calling his fellow - Israelites to repentance and faith.
Why?
At Beautiful place a beautiful things happened. Which bring the wonder and gospel to fellow-Israelites.
Not only the name of Jesus but also the faith in Jesus to make the wonder.
At three in the afternoon is the time of prayer, many people came to the temple and it is a good chance to declare what Jesus is to them.
Can I have the faith in the name of Jesus to do so wonder? Yes, I hope to make it.
How?
Jesus Christ is my Lord, I believe in Him, please give me more faith to God, O God!

Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins
Acts 2:37-47
When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?"
Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.
They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people.
And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
God is calling to himself. The baptism of 3000 people is followed by a new, joyous sense of community. This finds practical expression in a readiness to share money and possessions. It is sustained by a new pattern of life.
Why?
They were cut to the heart for Peter said the grace of Jesus Christ and God's plan. So they were return to the Lord, and said what shall we do?
The only way to save their life is "Repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.
Away from this corrupt generation, the world is attractive the Christian have to isolate ourselves from the world, even we are living in the world.

God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah
Acts 2:22-36
Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. This man was handed over to you by God’s deliberate plan and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.
David said about him.
God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it. Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father. For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said,‘The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”
Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah.
They have killed Jesus by allowing him to be crucified. God has raised him to life.
Why?
Jesus is the son of God so he make miracles, wonders and signs.
Jesus be haded over to people by God's deliberate plan and foreknowledge. It is beyond we can imaged.
Jesus is raised from the dead freeing from the agony of death. So we have hope could be raised like Jesus on the day he return.
Peter used the word of David to prove that Jesus is mentioned by David and Jesus is the Messiah.
Peter explained how and why Jesus be crucified and be raised from the dead.
How?
I believe Jesus is raised from the dead and Jesus is son of God. He will come again to save all who trust in Him.

Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved
Acts 2:14-21
Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.
And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
The impassioned address delivered by a transformed Peter evokes an immediate response.
Why?
After Holy Spirit come on Apostles, Peter's life was changed. He stood up and explain to fellow Jews what is going on. And explained why.

Filled with the Holy Spirit
Acts 2:1-13
The day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
Speaking in their own languages.
Some made fun of them and said, "They have had too much wine."
With the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost the waiting is over. Tongues of flame that all can see denote an inner change which is quickly evident. The apostles and disciples become the new church, full of life and power, utterly different from their former fearful selves. And the change is permanent.
Why?
The Holy Spirit come on apostle on day of Pentecost, full of life and power, changed the life of apostles, they were not fear anymore.
The feature of Holy Spirit came on them are wind, tongues of fire and speaking in many foreign language.
Focus on the Lord and let Holy Spirit full on me, change my life and give me power to do the right things.
Thanks Lord there is my boss's wife she seems against me, but give me alert and awareness to follow God's way.
How?
Obey and humble myself before the Lord, I am working for the Lord instead for the man.

Mattias chosen to replace Judas
Acts 1:12-26
Mattias chosen to replace Judas.
On the mountain of Olives, a Sabbath day's walk from the city.
Criteria of apostle. Peter said.
Therefore it is necessary to choose one of the men who have been with us the whole time the Lord Jesus was living among us. beginning from John’s baptism to the time when Jesus was taken up from us. For one of these must become a witness with us of his resurrection.
So they nominated two men: Joseph called Barabbas (also known as Justus) and Matthias. Then they prayed, “Lord, you know everyone’s heart. Show us which of these two you have chosen to take over this apostolic ministry, which Judas left to go where he belongs.” Then they cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias
As far as we know, this is the last tome the apostles use the time-honored method of casting lots. It is not just a 'lucky dip; - the decision is made after much prayer. The 12 apostles parallel the 12 tribes of Israel, so the number must be made up. The twelfth man must have been with Chris throughout his earthly ministry, and have seen him after the resurrection.
Why?
For there are 12 tribes of Israel, so they chose apostles be 12 for the Judas is dead.
The criteria of apostle is run through 1)meet the conditions as Peter said, chose two,2)then prayer, and 3)cast lots.
How?
To be a church leader like Peter, made criteria, choose persons, prayer and cast lots. God is our Lord, we make decision through Holy Spirit.

You will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.
Acts 1:1-11
Jesus taken up into the heaven.
After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.
“Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
“Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come backin the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”
The first part of Luke's work is an account of all that Jesus did and taught during his life on earth. Act continues the story after is return to God , where his work continues through the apostles empowered by the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. It shows how the promise in verse 8 was fulfilled.

This is the mission to all Christians preach gospel to all the world. let people know the kingdom of God.

Ezra was praying and confessing, weeping and throwing himself down before the house of God
Ezra 10:1-44
While Ezra was praying and confessing, weeping and throwing himself down before the house of God, a large crowd of Israelites—men, women and children—gathered around him. They too wept bitterly.
Now let us make a covenant before our God to send away all these women and their children, in accordance with the counsel of my lord and of those who fear the commands of our God. Let it be done according to the Law. Rise up; this matter is in your hands. We will support you, so take courage and do it.
On the first day of the tenth month they sat down to investigate the cases, and by the first day of the first month they finished dealing with all the men who had married foreign women.
His close identification with the offenders and the deep grief of his prayer pricks the nation's conscience. They call on him so act. So, by their own choice, the whole assembly gathers to hear his judgment. We see them shivering in the December rains and can almost hear the interchange that follows.
The blame for all the unhappiness of broken marriages rests not on Ezra, but on those listed in 10:18-44 - the men who contracted those marriages in defiance of God's law. Some of them had even broken former marriages to Jewish wives to do so.
The Hebrew Bible continues straight on from Ezra 10:44, without a break to the opening words of Nehemiah; the conclusion of the story. Ezra will reappear in a more positive role, as the people assemble again in Nehemiah Chapter 8 to hear God's law.
Why?
Ezra was praying and confessing weeping and throwing himself down before the house of God, people saw and heard what he prayed. So they gathered around him, they have the same mind as Ezra.
After prayer before the Lord, people supported Ezra and encouraged him, for Ezra have the authority to proclaim this and asked people come to Jerusalem.
Knowing the way of the Lord and making the procedure to execute the word of the Lord.
Prayer, let people know and do the action to exclude the evil things.
How?
Before action let pray before the Lord, asked the support of the Lord.

Though we are slaves, our God has not forsaken us in our bondage
Ezra 9:1-15
After these things had been done, the leaders came to me and said, “The people of Israel, including the priests and the Levites, have not kept themselves separate from the neighboring peoples with their detestable practises, like those of the Canaanites, Hittites, Perizzites,Jebusites, Ammonites, Moabites, Egyptians and Amorites.
Then, at the evening sacrifice, I rose from my self-abasement, with my tunic and cloak torn, and fell on my knees with my hands spread out to the Lord my God and prayed
Though we are slaves, our God has not forsaken us in our bondage. He has shown us kindness in the sight of the kings of Persia: He has granted us new life to rebuild the house of our God and repair its ruins, and he has given us a wall of protection in Judah and Jerusalem.
Lord, the God of Israel, you are righteous! We are left this day as a remnant. Here we are before you in our guilt, though because of it not one of us can stand in your presence.”
Since their return, priests and Levits, rulers and people alike have intermarried with the heathen peoples around, a thing forbidden by God, not out of racial prejudice but because it led to idolatry. (God's concern - and the concern of those true to him - for non-Jews has already been seen in 6:21 and is a particular feature of the books of Ruth and Jonah.) This very practice had been a major factor in the nation's downfall under the kings. Yet even the horrors of defeat and exile have not taught the people their lesson, Ezra's bitter distress at the disclosure is therefor not surprising.
Why?
Ezra though his people sins as his own sins and prayed to the Lord for forgiveness. Ezra is humble himself and asked for the Lord.
Though we are slaves, our God has not forsaken us in out bondage. God is full of love and grace to his people.
How?
Be humble before the Lord and pray for the nation and people in Taiwan.

Because we had told the king, “The gracious hand of our God is on everyone who looks to him"
Ezra 8:1-36
I assembled them at the canal that flows toward Ahava, and we camped there three days. When I checked among the people and the priests, I found no Levites there.
Because the gracious hand of our God was on us, they brought us Sherebiah, a capable man, from the descendants of Mahli son of Levi, the son of Israel, and Sherebiah’s sons and brothers, 18 in all; and Hashabiah, together with Jeshaiah from the descendants of Merari, and his brothers and nephews, 20 in all. They also brought 220 of the temple servants—a body that David and the officials had established to assist the Levites. All were registered by name.
I was ashamed to ask the king for soldiers and horsemen to protect us from enemies on the road, because we had told the king, “The gracious hand of our God is on everyone who looks to him, but his great anger is against all who forsake him.” So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and he answered our prayer.
On the twelfth day of the first month we set out from the Ahava Canalto go to Jerusalem. The hand of our God was on us, and he protected us from enemies and bandits along the way.
Everything was accounted for by number and weight, and the entire weight was recorded at that time.
Then the exiles who had returned from captivity sacrificed burnt offerings to the God of Israel. They also delivered the king’s orders to the royal satraps and to the governors of Trans-Euphrates, who then gave assistance to the people and to the house of God.
Ezra's party of over 1700 includes priests, people and somewhat reluctantly, Levites. With them they take as gifts 22 tonnes/48500lb of silver and 3400kg of gold. Ezra is faced with a long and dangerous journey at a time of great unrest. And having boasted his confidence in God, he can hardly now apply to the king for an escort! His prayer is heartfelt, and his faith rewarded by God's own safe- conduct.
Why?
Ezra faced a long distance and dangerous journey, he carry so many silver and gold and people, he knew this is hard mission so he asked them pray and humble themselves and with fasten. His faith and God's grace with them. So they arrived Jerusalem safely.
For the articles of the Temple, Ezra carefully accounted by number and weight.
The hand of our God was on us is the key in their journey.
How?
Faith is shown in the action. Ezra make it by his faith to the Lord.

Ezra the priest, a teacher of the Law of the God of heaven
Ezra 7:11-28
To Ezra the priest, a teacher of the Law of the God of heaven.
You and your brother Jews may then do whatever seems best with the rest of the silver and gold, in accordance with the will of your God.
And anything else needed for the temple of your God that you may have occasion to supply, you may provide from the royal treasury.
Ezra said to them,"You as well as these articles are consecrated to the Lord. The silver and gold are a freewill offering to the Lord, the God of your father.
The story of Ester, the queen who saved the Jewish people from massacre fits into the interval of nearly 60 years which separates 7:1 from 6:22.
Artaxerxes, the king now ruling Persia, is favourably disposed towards the Jews, and Ezra is given official sanction to teach the law and appoint magistrates in his homeland, to offer sacrifices and beautify the Temple.
Why?
For the queen Ester changed the way of Israelite in kingdom of Persia, Artaxerxes. So Ezra may got so much resources from king.
Ezra is a priest and is a teacher of the Law of the God of heaven. Who leads people of Israel turn to the Lord and know the word of God.
How?
Beyond the king the Lord is the real master of the world.

Devoted himself to the study and observance of the Law of the Lord, and to teaching
Ezra 7:1-10
During the reign of Artaxerxes king of Persia, Ezra came up from Babylon. He was teacher well versed in the Law of Moses, which had granted him everything he asked, for the hand of the Lord his God was on him.
For Ezra has devoted himself to the study and observance of the Law of the Lord, and to teaching it decrees and laws in Israel.
The rest of the book focuses on Ezra, a priest who can trace his line right back to Aaron, the first high priest. Ezra is a scholar of God's law. He will teach it to the new community of God's people, so that the will not repeat past mistakes.
Why?
For the hand of the Lord was on Ezra, so he granted king of Persia everything he asked. First let God be my first priority then God will put me on his first priority.
Devoted? I devote myself to the Lord and devoted myself to study the Bible.
Observance the law of God is the way in my life.
Teaching God's word is my mission, let more people turn the Lord and Jesus Christ.
Above is the attitude to word of the Lord.
How?

Dedication of this house of God
Ezra 6:16-22
For the dedication(貢獻) of this house of God they offered a bulls, rams, lambs as a sin offering for all Israel. They installed the priests in their divisions and the Levites in their groups for the service of God at Jerusalem, according to what is written in the Book of Moses.
On the fourteenth day of the first month, the exiles celebrated the Passover.
For seven days they celebrated with joy the Feast of Unleavened Bread, because the Lord and filled them with joy by changing the attitude of the king of Assyria, so that he assisted them in the worked on the house of God, the God of Israel.
In four years the Temple is finished and the people are able to celebrate Passover. For a nation that has recently come through a second exodus, delivered by God from their bondage in Babylon, this must have had very special meaning. In contrast to 4:3, 6:21 records that the sacrifices were enjoyed not only by the returned Jewish exiles, but also 'by all those who had given up the pagan ways of the other people who were living in the land and who had come to worship the Lord God of Israel'. Here is the 'remnant' of Israel, true to their identity, bring others into covenant relationship with God; separate but not exclusive.
Why?
This is second exodus, with God's mighty hands so they may celebrate Passover and feast of Unleavened Bread.
For God's worked on the Israelite and changing the attitude of the king of Assyria. It is word of the Lord and beyond mind and way of men.
How?
Acknowledge who sovereign the world and leads our way forward, who is the Lord.

Let the temple be rebuilt as a place to present sacrifices
Ezra 6:1-15
King Darius then issued an order, and they searched in the archivesstored in the treasury at Babylon. A scroll was found in the citadel of Ecbatana in the province of Media.
King Darius then issued an order, and they searched in the archivesstored in the treasury at Babylon. A scroll was found in the citadel of Ecbatana in the province of Media.
In the first year of King Cyrus, the king issued a decree concerning the temple of God in Jerusalem:
Let the temple be rebuilt as a place to present sacrifices, and let its foundations be laid. It is to be sixty cubits high and sixty cubits wide, with three courses of large stones and one of timbers. The costs are to be paid by the royal treasury. Also, the gold and silver articles of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took from the temple in Jerusalem and brought to Babylon, are to be returned to their places in the temple in Jerusalem; they are to be deposited in the house of God.
The temple was completed on the third day of the month Adar, in the sixth year of the reign of King Darius.
Why?
The Lord has made the way and prepared the needed to rebuild the Temple in Jerusalem. So the governors and officials asked King and got the response. And supported the financial support, returned the articles of God's temple.
Everything looks so smoothly going, but God is the sovereign Lord who makes every detail thing and people actions.

We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth
Ezra 5:1-17
Now Haggai the prophet and Zechariah the prophet, prophesied to the Jews in Judah and Jerusalem in the name of the God of Israel, who was over them. Then Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and Joshua son of Jozadak set to work to rebuild the house of God in Jerusalem. And the prophets of God were with them, supporting them.
“Who authorized you to rebuild this temple and to finish it?” They also asked, “What are the names of those who are constructing this building?
But the eye of their God was watching over the elders of the Jews, and they were not stopped until a report could go to Darius and his written reply be received.
Tattenai, governor of Trans-Euphrates, and Shethar-Bozenai and their associates, the officials of Trans-Euphrates, sent to King Darius.
“We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and we are rebuilding the temple that was built many years ago, one that a great king of Israel built and finished.
However, in the first year of Cyrus king of Babylon, King Cyrus issued a decree to rebuild this house of God.
Urged on by the prophets Haggai and Zechariah, the people again start building. This time an attempt to get the new king, Darius, to stop it has the opposite effect. Darius checks the court records, and discovers the scroll on which King Cyrus; decree is written. The Jews have official authorization for their Temple, even to the dimensions and materials used.
Why?
The prophet has word of God and he encouraged people of Jew to rebuild house of God.
Who we are, We are servants of the God of heaven and earth.
How?
For I am servant of God so I am humble and raise name of the Lord.

King Artaxerxes compelled them by force to stop build wall of Jerusalem
Ezra 4:1-24
When the enemies of Judah and Benjamin heard that the exiles were building a temple for the Lord, the God of Israel, they came to Zerubbabel and to the heads of the families and said, “Let us help you build because, like you, we seek your God and have been sacrificing to him since the time of Esarhaddon king of Assyria, who brought us here."
But Zerubbabel, Joshua and the rest of the heads of the families of Israel answered, “You have no part with us in building a temple to our God. We alone will build it for the Lord, the God of Israel, as King Cyrus, the king of Persia, commanded us.”
Rehum the commanding officer and Shimshai the secretary wrote a letter against Jerusalem to Artaxerxes the king. In these records you will find that this city is a rebellious city, troublesome to kings and provinces, a place with a long history of sedition. That is why this city was destroyed.
As soon as the copy of the letter of King Artaxerxes was read to Rehum and Shimshai the secretary and their associates, they went immediately to the Jews in Jerusalem and compelled them by force to stop.
The settles offer help. They too now offer sacrifices to the God of this land. But the Jews will have none of it, and so the settlers stir things up, managing to stop the work for 15 ling years, until Darius is king.
Interrupt the chronological sequence to carry the account of the opposition through to the time of Ezra and Nehemiah, nearly 100 years later. Here the bone of contention is the rebuilding of the city walls.
Why?
When God's work is going, there is enemy comes to interrupt. But God is the sovereign Lord. The time is in hands of the Lord.
What we can do is waiting for God, have trust in the Lord.
How?
Keep trusting the Lord, for it is started from the Lord, it will be ended by the Lord either. Do not afraid or frustrated to the trouble.
