1 Chronicles 1:1-33
Historical records from Adam to Abraham.
The son of Noah, Shem, Han and Japheth.
The sons of Shem: Elam, Ashur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram.
Shem, Arphaxad,[i] Shelah, Eber, Peleg, Reu, Serug, Nahor, Terah, and Abram (that is, Abraham)
The sons of Abraham: Isaac and Ishmael.
The lists in these chapters provide only a skeleton family tree. They are not intended to be completed. In line with his purpose, the Chronicler gives most attention to the family of David, and the tribes of Judah. Benjamin and Levi. The family lines are important for the Chronicler and those for whom the book was first written because they connect the people with all that has gone before in the purposes of God. They also prepare the way for the particular history, beginning at chapter 10 which will focus on David's line of kings and on the Temple as the center of the nation's worship.
Adam to Abram: Noah's descendants through Japheth, Han, and Shem. The list is drawn from Genesis, though the spelling of many names is slightly different here.
Why?
In order to identify the descendant of David comes from Adam and Noah, and father of Israel, 
Abraham.

如此長家譜的記載是有意義的。有其目的。
目的要介紹出亞伯拉罕。
塞特代替亞伯，讓已經死的人可以再活一次。塞特就是代替的含義。同樣神用耶穌代替我這個因罪而死的人，可以再活一次。
這其中最重要的是顯明“神的揀選”，雖然不知什麼原因。神因為愛我們所以然揀選我們。
人名寫下來代表神的關心。
在被擄之地寫下此家譜，讓以色列人知道他們的血統根源，雖然是被擄，但是神仍然關懷，仍然在神的約當中。給當時猶太人相當的盼望，期待應許、歸回之日。
我們現在生活的世界，都是反對基督教的社會，即使是基督教國家，也對基督徒不友善。雖然我們不是亞伯拉罕直系親屬，因為亞伯拉罕之約中，他是多國之父，我們也在此約當中，所以我們都是塞特、閃的後代，我們都在亞伯拉罕的應許當中。

All of us are from our own descendants, but for the grace of Jesus, we could be descendants of Jesus.
