Leviticus 24:1-23
Command the Israelites to bring you clear oil of pressed olives for the light so that the lamps may be kept burning continually. Aaron is to tend the lamps before the Lord from evening till morning, continually. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come.
Take the finest flour and bake twelve loaves of bread, using two-tenths of an ephah for each loaf. Arrange them in two stacks, six in each stack, on the table of pure gold before the Lord. By each stack put some pure incense as a memorial portion to represent the bread and to be a food offering presented to the Lord. This bread is to be set out before the Lord regularly, Sabbath after Sabbath, on behalf of the Israelites, as a lasting covenant. It belongs to Aaron and his sons, who are to eat it in the sanctuary area, because it is a most holy part of their perpetual share of the food offerings presented to the Lord.
Say to the Israelites: ‘Anyone who curses their God will be held responsible; anyone who blasphemes the name of the Lord is to be put to death.
Anyone who takes the life of a human being is to be put to death. Anyone who takes the life of someone’s animal must make restitution—life for life. Anyone who injures their neighbor is to be injured in the same manner.
Turn from special festivals to two regular duties: the lamps which must be kept burning in God's Tent, and the weekly offering of twelve loaves. The loves remind the tribes of their complete dependence on God's provision. They are not put there for God to eat (as in pagan religions). Aaron and the priests are openly instructed to eat the bread themselves.
Verse 10-23 record the ruling about a breach of the third commandment. The emphasis is on one law for Israelite and resident foreigners alike.
Why?
Eye to eye: The principle is one of exact and limited public justice: it outlawed individual revenge and blood-feud. Compensation for injury often took the form of a fine.
Keep light of the lamps before the Lord is the duty of Aaron and his sons.
The 12 loaves of bread used as the food offering presented to the Lord, and it gives to Aaron and his sons. it is holy so they have to eat it in the sanctuary area.
Eye to eye, life for life, it is public justice for long times. God is justice, so we have to walk in a justice way.

How?
God's word looks harsh but it protects our life and keeps us living safely in the world. We are the light in the world, keep shining in our neighbor and this dark world.
