Revelation 6:9-17
When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained. They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?” Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers and sisters, were killed just as they had been.
I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind. The heavens receded like a scroll being rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place.
For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can withstand it?
But no matter what the disaster, God is in control. His love and care for his people never fail. V12-17 picture the cataclysmic events which usher in God's great day of reckoning, In apocalyptic language John depicts the disintegration of the fixed and stable world we know.
Why?
Fifth seal: there are many God's people who were suffering and called out to the Lord, God gives them the white robe for their righteousness, but they have to wait a while until the full number of their fellow servants. God keeps the time so everyone has the chance to repent from their sins and turn to the Lord.
After the sixth seal is opened, there is the end of the world. no one can escape from this disaster.
Yes, for the great day of God's wrath has come, no one can withstand it.
How?
God is good, no matter what happened, all is controlled under the sovereign Lord.
