These forty years the Lord your God has been with you, and you have not lacked anything.

Deuteronomy 2:1-23

Then the Lord said to me, “You have made your way around this hill country long enough; now turn north. Give the people these orders: ‘You are about to pass through the territory of your relatives the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir. They will be afraid of you, but be very careful. Do not provoke them to war, for I will not give you any of their land, not even enough to put your foot on. I have given Esau the hill country of Seir as his own. You are to pay them in silver for the food you eat and the water you drink.’”

These forty years the Lord your God has been with you, and you have not lacked anything.

Then the Lord said to me, “Do not harass the Moabites or provoke them to war, for I will not give you any part of their land. I have given Ar to the descendants of Lot as a possession.

Thirty-eight years passed from the time we left Kadesh Barnea until we crossed the Zered Valley. By then, that entire generation of fighting men had perished from the camp, as the Lord had sworn to them. The Lord’s hand was against them until he had completely eliminated them from the camp.

When you come to the Ammonites, do not harass them or provoke them to war, for I will not give you possession of any land belonging to the Ammonites. I have given it as a possession to the descendants of Lot.

Although the Edomites refused Israel passage along the main road, the King's Highway, it seems that some were willing to sell them food. The friendliness shown to Edom, Moab, and Ammon on grounds o kinship is characteristic of patriarchal and Mosaic time. God keeps his word down the ages and expects his people to keep theirs.

Why?

Wildness seems nothing there, but Israelites stayed there 40 years, they have not lacked anything. It is the Lord who gives them anything for their living. This is the work and the love from the Lord.

God asked his people to keep God's promise that God has given the lands to the descendants of Esau, Lot.

以色列人要經過三個地方，只能經過，不能打擾他們。共通性是神賜給他們居住的。以掃及羅得的後代。神對我們都有計劃與安排，不用去爭，爭也爭不到。我們常常看到別人的比較好，我們常常不懂感恩，以至於認為別人的好。追求理想、夢想固然好，但是如果失去神的恩典，可能更糟，神給羅得、以掃產業，也一樣賜給我們當得的產業。

這三個地方以前都有人住，神將他們趕出去給這三人後代住。當地原來的人是亞納族人，很高大強壯，也就是當時迦南人居住的人就是亞納族人，過去以色列人為此退縮，外邦人神都如此照顧了，何況是神的選民。求主幫助我們專心倚靠神！
