Psalm 73:1-16
Surely God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart.
But as for me, my feet had almost slipped; I had nearly lost my foothold. For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
They say, “How would God know? Does the Most High know anything?”
This is what the wicked are like—always free of care, they go on amassing wealth. Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure and have washed my hands in innocence. All day long I have been afflicted, and every morning brings new punishments. If I had spoken out like that, I would have betrayed your children. When I tried to understand all this, it troubled me deeply.
This is one of the 'wisdom' psalms: see note on Psalm 1. The issue is God's justice: how is it that those who flout GOd's laws prosper, and trouble falls on those who least deserve it. It is enough to make the good turn cynical, envious and bitter, tempting them to say things better left unsaid.
Why?
From the feature of this society, there exist this phenomenon that the evildoers have prospered life and they look has a good reputation.
But the writer has known all of this, Surely God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart.
God has his schedule and his plan to judge all people.
