For he was amazed at the teaching about the Lord

Acts 13:1-15

While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.

But Elymas the sorcerer (for that is what his name means) opposed them and tried to turn the proconsul from the faith.

Saul, who was also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked straight at Elymas and said, “You are a child of the devil and an enemy of everything that is right! You are full of all kinds of deceit and trickery. Will you never stop perverting the right ways of the Lord? Now the hand of the Lord is against you. You are going to be blind for a time, not even able to see the light of the sun.” Immediately mist and darkness came over him, and he groped about, seeking someone to lead him by the hand. When the proconsul saw what had happened, he believed, for he was amazed at the teaching about the Lord.

From Paphos, Paul and his companions sailed to Perga in Pamphylia, where John left them to return to Jerusalem. From Perga they went on to Pisidian Antioch. On the Sabbath, they entered the synagogue and sat down. After the reading from the Law and the Prophets, the leaders of the synagogue sent word to them, saying, “Brothers, if you have a word of exhortation for the people, please speak.”

Why?

The Holy Spirit hoped Barnabas and Saul go out to preach the gospel. Christians do not always keep warming in a church but preaching the gospel to the world is our mission.

Anyone opposed to Christianity will be turned to a worse situation. By the Holy Spirit, Paul did a miracle and let the proconsul believe. This is the Holy Spirit that comes upon Paul, it is not Paul who asked the Holy Spirit. To be a servant of the Lord, the Holy Spirit comes upon God's servant.

Teaching about the Lord with the Holy Spirit may turn people's hearts to the Lord, it is not our power but the power of the Holy Spirit.

How?

May the Holy Spirit give me the wisdom and pure heart to learn from the Lord and be a good servant.
