Psalm 83:1-18
O God, do not keep silent; O God, be not still.
The enemies say:"let us destroy them as a nation, so that Israel’s name is remembered no more.”
“Let us take possession of the pasturelands of God.”
Prayer: "Make them like tumbleweed, my God, like chaff before the wind." "Cover their faces with shame, LORD, so that they will seek your name."
"May they ever be ashamed and dismayed; may they perish in disgrace."
Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD — that you alone are the Most High over all the earth.
The nation is in grave danger from an alliance of all the old enemies, plus powerful Assyria. The people call on God's aid:remembering past deliverance: "Do to them what you did..." Their victory will show that there is only one god and all the nations are subject to his sovereign rule.
Why?
When enemies are proud, we will think the Lord is quiet and still, so psalmist cried out to the Lord Please do not quiet.
But for us when we pray or after we prayed to the Lord, we should be still, release out burden to the Christ. He presides this world.
The emenies of the Lord want to destroy the nation of Israel and their possession, so as Israelite hope the Lord let them perish in disgrace. There is not any compromise space between them. It is like the Justice and evil could not be presented before the Lord. But the Lord gives chance to the evil one to repent until the coming of that Day.
Finally the prayer hope all people know the Lord is His name- you are the Most High over a the earth.
How?
Acknowledge the Lord is the Most High over all nation, let our behavior could show the witness of God among peoples. Let build house on the Rock.
