2 Kings 23:1-30
King Josiah renewed the covenant in the presence of the Lord, with the men of Jerusalem the priests and the prophets- all the people from the least to the greatest. All the people pledged themselves to the covenant.
He remove all of articles made for Ball and Asherah and all the starry hosts.
Neither before nor after Josiah was there a king like him who turned to the Lord as he did- with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his strength, in accordance with all the Law of Moses.
Josiah did as the prophet said in 1 Kings 13:2, the Lord has known the history will be in Israel and Judah.
Josiah comes a purge of public places, ridding the land of objects associated with pagan worship. The lean-up extends beyond Judah to former Israelite territory.
The neglected Feast of Passover is celebrated once more and private malpractices are dealt with.
Nevertheless, the lord did not turn away from the heat of his fierce anger
Why?
God's judgement is delayed bur nor reversed: the nation's heart is not changed by the king's reforms.
According to the written in this chapter, the kings of Judah and Israel did so many detestable thing against the Lord, the whole country and whole Jerusalem and in the temple of the Lord are filled with detestable idols and relative articles. So the God's judgement and heat of his fierce angry did not turn away. People's heart of Judah is not changed for the reforms of king.
King's authority can not control all the heart of his people, king could be a leader of politic or model of living in his people. Change a culture or tradition need longer time.
How?
The Lord is a sovereign Lord across the time and space. He knows everyone's heart and mind. Nothing can hide before Him. Confess our sins honest and obey his words and commands is the best choice of a man.
