2 King 14:1-29
Jehu, Jehoahaz, Jehoash and then Jeroboam be the King of Israel.
Second year of Jehoash, Amaziah began to reign Judah.
Amaziah did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, but not as his father David had done; the people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense in high place.
Amaziah did not put the son of the assassins to death, in accordance with what is written in the Book of the Law of Moses where the Lord commanded.
Amaziah defeated Edomites in the Valley of Salt and captured Sela in battle. He was arrogant for this victory, he sent messengers to Jehoahaz with the challenge. Amaziah would not listen to the words replied from king of Israel Jehoash. Judah was routed by Israel.
The Lord had seen how bitterly everyone i Israel, whether slave or free, was suffering; there was no one to help them. Since the Lord had not said he would blot out the name of Israel from under heaven, he save them by the hand of Jeroboam.
Amaziah is a good king who reigns 29 years. The people make Azariah co-regent.
Jeroboam II rules for 41 years including a time as co-regent. He is politically strong. After his death the nation falls apart. The prophets Amos and Hosea reveal the corruption within Israel.
Why?
The destination of Amaziah and his father Joash are same, was conspired by his servants in Jerusalem. Their leading way has some problem, the political force were weak.
Amaziah defeated Edom is the blessing of the Lord, but he took this glory to himself, and make his kingdom routed by Israel.
How?
Completely obey the commands of the Lord, arrogant will lead to fail and destruction of everything. Love the Lord with all my heart and with all my soul and with all of my mind and with all my strength..
