2 Kings 16:1-20
Ahaz son of Jotham king of Judah reigned in Jerusalem 16 years. He did not do what was right in the eyes of the Lord his God.
Judah was attacked and besieged by Aram and Israel. he sent messagers to say to king of Assyria, "I am your servant and vassal. Come up to save me out of the hand of the king of Aram and of the king of Israel."
Ahaz pay a lot of gold in the temple of the Lord and treasures of royal palace and sent it as gift to the king Assyria.
THe ing of Assyria complied by attacking Damascus and capturing it. Ahaz went to Damascus to meet king of Assyria and built a temple like Damascus what he saw.
Ahaz was one of Judah's worst kings During his 16 years reign Judah was under attack from all quarters: Syria and Israel to the north; Edom and Philistia to the south.
The temple was stripped of silver and gold to pay the heavy tribute demanded by Assyria in return for help.
Why?
Assyria has strong force make Ahaz though it was blessed by their God in Damascus. The wars and enemy attacked Judah the real reason is Judah turn away from the Lord.
Ahaz didn't repent for his behavior and he looked the outside feature of Assyria, learned the wrong example from Assyria. Ahaz didn't know the best treasure and savior was located in his country, Judah.
Sometimes unfair things or evil doer makes us angry and doubt the existence of the Lord. These are temporary features, all of these will be passed away, the Lord gives us some disciplines to purify our life like a refiner and purifier of silver.
How?
I am whose servant? I am the servant of the Lord, I will follow the commands of the Lord, He is the only God in the world and Heaven.
