1 Corinthians 12:12-30
The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.
There are many parts, but one body.
If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.
We are the body of Christ, and each one of us is a part of it. In the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of administration, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues.
But eagerly desire the greater gifts.
Why?
All Christians were baptized by one Spirit and drink one bread, drink one cup, it is like a body with many parts, each part is important and equal right in present of the Lord. Each part suffer and enjoy anything of the body.
The gifts come from a single Source, and are given for the good of the whole church. Every individual has an indispensable part to play in the life of the one body. This should prevent a universal scramble for the same gifts. The important thing is not which gifts are most impressive, but which best serve to build up the church. This means that prophecy- a message from God which everyone can understand- is of more value than tongues.
There are other gifts Christians should seek even more strenuously.
How?
Don't ask why I have to do this, but ask what I can serve to the God in church. I should seek greater gifts from the Lord to serve church and peoples.
