No dead but asleep

Mark 5:35-43
The child is not dead but asleep.
But they laughed at Jesus.
Jesus put them all out, who were crying and wailing loudly.
Jesus gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this.
The synagogue ruler believed Jesus can heal his daughter but did not know Jesus has the power over dead.
Why?
Jesus is working in peace and quiet condition.
Jesus don't want others know he did this miracle for it might disturb his work in preaching the good news.
Jesus has the power over dead and life. He is really Son of God. No one can let the dead man back to live.
People always use worldly perspective to see the work of God, they laugh at Christian's talk and what they are doing in faith.
To be a follower of Jesus have to endure the laugh and mock from the world.
How?
Christians have an eternal life but unbelievers don't, they don't know what they are doing, but we know. Love to others, pray for them, hope all hearts can turn to Jesus.

Faith with peace and joy

Mark 5:21-34
Ignoring what they said, Don't be afraid; just believe.
A sick woman almost lost her hope to healing her bleeding for 12 years, she thought touch the clock of Jesus she could be healed, she did and immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.
Jesus let crowd know how great this woman's faith in Jesus, so her sick was healed.
Jesus actively took dead girl's hand and said to her "Little girl, I say to you get up!" Immediately the girl stood up and walked around.
Many crowd did not catch the real worthy of faith in Jesus.
To stories run in parallel; both are about females, about faith, and about people beyond the help of doctors.
Why?
Jesus's healing are immediately completed.
Faith is ignoring what other's said, just believe and don't be afraid. Sometime it could be missing in our own mind, but if it should be compatible with principle of Bible.
Jesus is the God of life, he has power over life and dead. Only one who came from heaven has this great power.
As a woman she is in any case regarded as a 'second-class citizen', but not by Jesus. Jesus' clock has no magic properties. He knows the difference between the casual contact of the crowd and someone reaching our in need. The woman's faith not only leads to her physical healing; it saves her.
Jairus is a big man in the local community, came to Jesus shows that not all religious leaders were against him. Because of his trust in Jesus his little girl is brought back to life.
Faith like the sick woman need mind and behavior to show it.
How?
Follow Jesus need the faith in every difficult things, I believe Jesus can help me in his way with peace and joy. Like these two females, went in peace and freed from suffering.

Jesus subdue evil spirit

Mark 5:1-20
Evil spirit possess a man or living life.
Evil spirit knows the Son of God, and afraid Jesus Christ.
Evil spirit has regional occupation.
Final destination of evil spirit is make the man or living life to dead.
Jesus does not allow evil spirit stay in a man for he loves man.
The people in Gerasenes asked Jesus leave their region for they were afraid.
Jesus did not allow this man who had been demon-possessed go with him, but tell him "go home to you family and tell them how much the Lord has done for you".
Across lake, Gerasens is not Jesus home town.
Why?
Jesus has authority over wild elements and wild people.
The exorcism驅魔 is followed by mischief胡鬧 and disturbance, as the herd of pigs runs headlong into the lake - a sight which must have convinced the man that his tormentors折磨 had really gone for good.
People does not like Jesus stay there for they lost their pigs and they afraid Jesus has power over demon, it may control them or hurt them. People like to be control by themselves.
Righteous and Love to evil love is opposite.
How?
Keep away the demon and evil spirit and do not afraid them for Jesus Christ has overdue them.

Who is this man?

Mark 4:35-41
Disciple and Jesus leaving the crowd behind in the boat.
Teacher, Don't you care if we drown?
Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?
There were terrified and asked each other,"Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!"
This story shows Jesus' power over nature as he clams the furious elements.
His quiet confidence contrasts sharply with the disciples' fear, first of the power of the storm, then of the greater power of Jesus, 'Who is this man?'
Why?
The needed of the crowd are never end, as the soul need to be save are endless. We can do our part.
With Jesus we do not afraid, but people usually lack faith, so we will afraid and worry about something we concerning.
Who is this man? The Jesus has power over the nature. He is Son of God.
How?
Do I really know who is this man - Jesus?
With Jesus I lack nothing is a big faith, speak this is very easy, but when storm comes my faith may flee away, look on the God, don't look at the human desire.
Jesus is my desire. The Lord loves us so he let storm discipline us, let our spiritual life grow.

Consider carefully what you hear.

Mark 4:21-34
Jesus using parable to describe the kingdom of God.
Gospel have to preach to public,so our witness have to show among people, like a lamp on the stand. -- Actively go into the crowd.
Whatever is hidden is meant to be disclosed, and whatever is concealed is meant to be brought out into the open.
Consider carefully what you hear.
With the measure you use, it will be measured to you and even more. Whoever has will be given more; whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him. -- Personal perspective and criticize to others will be judged by the Lord.
Kingdom of God like the growing seed and like the Mustard seed, it grows and becomes the great, we do not know. -- It is the work of the Lord.
Why?
Good news is for sharing.
It is clear from verses 22-23 that the reason for wrapping up the meaning is to encourage listeners to search it out for themselves
The farmer sows his seed, as Jesus and his followers sow the seed of God's kingdom.  But it is God who determines the coming of his kingdom.
Using personal measure like judge others or like cheating others in business, what we sow what we reap. Doing good to others and humble myself, we will not lost and be gained.
How?
I need to go out to preach what I have listen and learned from God, I need to preach the word of the Lord. Be carefully consider what I hear.

Enemy of Gospel

Mark 4: 1-20
The parables here are drawn from farming and are about growth: the seed and the soils, it is talking about listening and understanding.
Four kinds of places where seed fell on, 1/4 of gospel seed could grow up and produces a crop.
"He who has ears to heat let him hear"- who is the good soil he will accept the gospel, not compel to believe. The heart of people is the soil of gospel.
The enemy of gospel seed are Satan- bird, trouble or persecution- rocky place, no root, the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things- choke the word.
Why?
V12 This verse refers to the 'consequence', not the 'purpose' of Christ's teaching.
Satan is away against the Lord and his followers, if weak and unfaithful to the Lord.
Trouble and persecution are the environment of this world, some country have not freedom of religion.
Worries of this life and wealth and the desires for other things always challenge followers of Jesus.
Worries for the income, the children education, the wealth and desire to buy good house or phone, and honor name and noble position...
How?
Almost my life is under the worries of this life, so I  could not have more growth in my sole. Dear Lord, please help me, gives me strength to look on you, you are my desire and my hope. I need more faith in my life, I am so weak.

Even no able to eat

Mark 3:13-35
Jesus called to him those he wanted -designating them 12 apostles- that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach and to have authority to drive out demons.
He and his disciples were not even able to eat for a crowd gathered when they enter a house.
He is out of his mind.
The teachers of the law said, 'He is possessed by Beelzebub! By the prince of demons he is driving out demons."
Whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of an eternal sin.
Who are my mother and my brothers?  Whoever does God's will is my brother and sister and mother. Jesus was teaching to the crowd. Jesus was came form Heaven.

Jesus chose an inner circle of 12 who became founder-members of the new kingdom. Three - Peter, James and John- were specially close to him. Four, all from Galilee, were partners in a fishing business. One was a tax collector, serving the Romans. Simon, at the other extreme, belonged to a nationalist guerilla group working to overthrow the occupation. Judas Iscariot marked out as the one who betrayed Jesus may be the only non-Galilean.
Why?
Following Jesus to will close with Jesus and to preach the gospel and have authority to drive out demons. This is Christian's work and mission.
What made a man even not able to eat? For he is busy in it. Jesus is busy in teaching them and healing the needy men.
Jesus is not deny his family, but he knew what he is doing, teaching the crowd in that moment.
Do not blasphemes against the Holy Spirit or the name of the Lord, for the name of God and Holy Spirit has the authority, it will be an eternal guilty.
How?
What I am busy in? In my research work? In earning money for living? O Lord, forgive me, I usually made wrong direction in my life, I should more busy in your mission. Please do it with faith on your way.

Stubborn heart

Mark 2:23-3:12
The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.
Jesus asked them,'Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill? But they remained silent. He looked around at them in anger and deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts.
Whenever the evil(unclean) saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, "You are the Son of God."
Jesus' apparent defiance triggers a terrible reaction: a death-plot against him.
Why?
Heart of most people are stubborn, they like physical healing bur do not understand the spiritual healing. Most people follow the law but do not have love in their heart.
Sabbath was made for man, man can rest to remember what the Lord has done for them. Sabbath is not a rule to control man, but to help man live with the Lord with joy and peace.
Jesus says Son of Man is Lord, the devil says 'You are the Son of God', all of these are proved Jesus is Son of God.

Jewish interpretation of the commandment to keep the Sabbath as a work-free holy day, had hedged(對沖) it about with so many petty rules and restrictions that its primary purpose was lost.
The day of rest was intended for people's physical and spiritual good, not to deny them food and help. It is a day for doing good - and not only in an emergency.
Why?
Am I stubborn heart? Am I read the Bible but living like Pharisees? Do I follow the word of the Lord without love? Forgive me, O Lord, my love is less, please give me strength to love people, love sinners and live more like you, may the Holy Spirit guides my way.

God does the new thing

Mark 2:13-22
I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.
Follow me, Jesus told Levi, and Levi got up and followed him.
Levi invited Jesus having dinner at his home with many tax collectors and sinners.
About fasting: Jesus said "pour new wine into new wine-skins."
Jesus is the bridegroom, his disciples are the guests of the bridegroom.
Levi is an outsider, an unsuitable friend for any respectable Jewish teacher. His dinner guests are equally beyond the pale.

Lake Galilee is the world's lowest fresh-water lake, with a surface soem 207m below sea lever and a maximum depth of 45m. It measures toughly 20x11km.
The lake was a rich fishing ground, the principal catch most probably being the tilapia, 'St peter's fish'.
Why?
If anyone who thinks he is righteous will not accept Jesus as his savior.
Follow is an action, and immediately when Jesus calls us. Got up and follow Him.
Pour new wine into new wine-skin means Jesus came to us with good news which is out of the old tradition, we should prepare a new body, new concept to accept his gospel, everyone has personal connection to the Lord. The Holy Spirit comes to us. Each of the believer may pray to the Lord.
God always does the new thing, do not limit the works of the Lord.
How?
When God call us, just get up and follow Him. God gives us in new way and new answer that I have not thought it before. He is the creator of the world, He is working until now.

The faith and enthusiasm of love to Jesus

Mark 2:1-12
Jesus preached the word to crowd, there was no room left, not even outside the door.
Four men carried a paralytic to Jesus. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crow, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus and after diffing through it, lowered the mat the paralyzed man was lying on.
"Son, your sins are forgiven." Jesus said to the paralytic.
Some teachers of the law were thinking, 'Who can forgive sins but God alone?'
Jesus said to them,"why are you thinking these thing? Which is easier : to say to the paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven', or to say 'Get up, take your mat and walk?"
But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.
Why?
The teacher of the law is right "Who can forgive sins but God alone", Jesus is came from God, Son of God has authority on earth to forgive sins.
The paralytic has faith to believe Jesus can heal him. And his four friend like to carried him to Jesus. The faith of the patient and his friends and enthusiasm of these four friends are both important.

Here is the initiative, and faith, of his friends that leads to the man's healing.
Jesus' action demonstrates his power in both physical and spiritual realms. When he says the word, the man is forgiven.
Son of man : This is Jesus' preferred title for himself, perhaps because the title 'Messiah' was so misunderstood. In the Old Testament 'Son of man' generally means simply 'human being', but in Daniel 7:12-14 'someone like a Son of man' is given power by God.
How?
The faith is essential for the follower of Jesus. How about my faith  and my enthusiasm? Faith plus enthusiasm bring to power of Holy Spirit. I believe that the Lord is my king, the Almighty, he leads my way, gives me eternal life. When I pray I believe that the Lord will answer me through Jesus.

First priority in my life is to obey and preach word of Jesus

Mark 1:29-45
Jesus replied,"Let us go somewhere else - to the nearby villages - so I can preach there also. That is why I have come."
A man with leprosy came to Jesus and begged him on his knees, "If you are willing, you can make me clean." Filled with compassion, Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. "I am willing, Be clean!" Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cured.
Jesus could no longer enter a town openly but stayed outside in lonely places. Yet the people still came to him from everywhere.

The first recognition of Jesus as 'the Holy One of God' comes from a man possessed, and Jesus immediately tries to keep his identity secret(v24). He exercises his power for good over the forces of evil, first by muzzling the voice, then by healing the man. When he heals the sick he forbids the demons to speak, and the man with the skin-disease is warned not to tell of his cure.
Why?
People came to Jesus for their diseases could be healed. But Jesus came to this world is to preach the good news - repent, turn to the Lord. If people does not know the Jesus, even his sick is healed, he will die as others.
Healed the disease and driving our demons are the symbols of His power, son of God.
Jesus us filled with compassion, he reached out his hand to the man with leprosy, he don't have to, just speak it has the same power, he touched the unclean man to show his love reaches the needy men.

Why Jesus tells people not to reveal his true identity?(At least nine times in this Gospel) Why make a secret of the fact that he is the Messiah?
The reason seems to lie in the wrong ides about Messiah and his mission that were current at the time. The people were expecting a political leader to free them from the Romans. Jesus needed time to explain the kind of 'kingdom' he had come to inaugurate(開幕,發動): it was something even his close followers would find hard to grasp.
How?
Why I follow Jesus and believed in Him? for He is my savior, He leads me way to the heaven, he gives me the promise of eternal life through his blood and cleanse my sins. Healing, support what I needed are second priority in my life.

Come follow me; Teaching with authority

Mark 1:12-28
Jesus was sent out by Spirit into desert and tempted by Satan 40 days.
Good News: The time has come, the kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news.
Come follow me! At once, Simon and Andrew follow Jesus, without delay, James and John left their father and followed Jesus.
What is this? A new teaching and with authority! He even gives orders to evil spirits and they obey him.
Galilee:
The region lay to the west of Lake Galiee. In Christ's day it was prosperous and densely populated.
Most of the apostles came fro the towns around the lake-shore, which enjoyed a sub-tropical climate. Capernaum was Jesus' base. Tiberias, 16km/10miles away, was a spa town famous for its hot baths. Many of the sick people Jesus healed would have coe to the area for the mineral waters at Tiberias. On the hill behind the town was Herod's splendid summer palace.
In Jesus' day, palms, olives figs and vines grew on the hillsides around the lake. And the little towns and villages on its western shore were thriving center of industry: fish pickled for export; boat building; dye-working; potteries. John the Baptist lived an ascetic life in the desert. By contrast, Jesus chose to be in the thick of things, in Galilee, one of the busiest, most cosmopolitan regions of Palestine.
Why?
Jesus accepted temptation by the leading of Spirit, so as we has temptation in this world. Jesus conquered the test of food, honor and wealth. All of these Jesus is conquered.
Preach the good news- the kingdom of God is near, repent and believe in Jesus. This is what I should preach to this world also.
Follow Jesus at once, without delay, what I am concerning about? the food? the honor and the money?
Reading the Bible and preach word of the Lord need the authority of God, without Spirit the teaching without authority.
How?
Come with Jesus, He is the son of God, follow the truth at once. Don't read Bible as book, it is a life book concerning everyone.
If I am preaching in church, do I have the authority to teach words of God?
Preach good news among people instead of in desert, do it like Jesus. We need to conquer this world, conquer the testimony of Satan.

Mark 1: Gospel 1st step: Repentance for our sins

Mark 1:1-11
John came as Isaiah 40:3 said to be messenger ahead of Jesus Christ.
'Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.'
John preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.
John baptize you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.
When Jesus was baptized by John, a voice came from heaven:"You are my son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased."
This is the shortest of the Gospels and probably the first to be written. Mark wrote the Gospel in Rome, setting down Jesus' story as he had heard it directly from the apostle Peter.
Mark, who was the interpreter of Peter, wrote down accurately all that he remembered, whether of sayings or doings of Christ, but not in order.  For he was neither a hearer nor companion of the Lord.
Mark is the Latin name, his mother had a house in Jerusalem where Jesus followers met in the days of the early church. He was cousin to Paul's companion, Barnabas. Peter, whose companion he became, loved him as his own son(1 Peter 5:13)
Mark shows us Jesus in action, convincing us by the things he does that his claim to be the Son of God is true.
Why?
Water is a symbol. It can clean only the outside. God's Holy Spirit can cleanse a person from within.
John has only the simplest of food and rough clothing. He was certainly recognized instantly as a prophet. People flocked from far and wide to hear him, probably gathering beside the Jordan near Jericho, close to the place where Joshua had led the Israelite into their promised land so many centuries before.
John came consist with the words of Isaiah, his living style like a prophet and he preach the words of repentance, prepare the way of the Jesus Christ.
John's word proves that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
John preach the baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins, Jesus gives not only repentance messages, but also the gospel of everlasting life. Jesus gives us the hope, before get the everlasting life, it is a necessary procedure to repentant for our sins.
Repent for our sins, invite Jesus as our savior, baptism to show our action.
How?
Goal of my life is 1)Preach the message of repentance for our sins and 2)Lead them accept Jesus as our savior, 3)Baptism them with Holy Spirit through Christ.
It is clear of my goal in my life.

The fall of Jerusalem

Jeremiah 52:1-34
Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.
Nine year of Zedekiah's reign, on the tenth day of the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon marched against Jerusalem with his whole army. They camped outside the city and built siege works around it. Eleven year of King Zedekiah, by the ninth day of the fourth month the famine in the city had become so severe that there was no food for the people to eat. Then the city wall was broken through, and the whole army fled. Zedekiah was captured by Babylonian.
Three times there were 4,00 people of Jews from Jerusalem carried in to exile.
Why?
This chapter fills out the account of the fall of Jerusalem, the destruction of the Tempe, and the deportation of the people given in Jeremiah 39. It is almost identical to the story in 2 Kings 25.
The captive were deported in 597,587 and 581. 2 Kings says 10,000 were taken; 2 Chronicles 36 says it was all the survivors.
With the accession of Nebuchadnezzar's son, things improved for Jehoiachin, a token of new hope for the nation.
All of the prophets from the Lord through Jeremiah were come true. The Lord is faithfulness and righteousness.
How?
The violence of the wicked will drag them away, for they refuse to do what is right. Proverbs 21:7

Let us tell in Zion what the Lord our God has done

Jeremiah 51:1-64
The Lord had vindicated us; come, let us tell in Zion what the Lord our God has done.
The Lord has stirred up the king of Medes, because ho purpose is to destroy Babylon.
He made the earth by his power, he founded the world by his wisdom and stretched out the heavens by his understanding.
he Lord is a God of retribution; he will repay in full.
Babylon will sink to rise no more because of the disaster I will bring upon her. And her people will fall.
The Medes would pour in on Babylon from the north like the sea. God's people are warned in advance to be out of harm's way when it happens.
Cyrus, at the head of an army of Medes and Persians, took Babylon in 539. In 482 BC the city was destroyed by Xerxes I.
Why?
Babylon was God's instrument to punish his people ( as the Assyrians had been earlier), but the sinful pride of the city calls out for judgment, and God declares that the looters will themselves be looted, the Babylonian hammer will be hammered.
Evil cannot be ignored: Judgment will come.
The words of Jeremiah end here.
How great our God, the Almighty is His name. He is sitting throne speaking with power, wisdom and full of understanding from earth to heaven.
Let us remember the grace of the Lord, let us tell others what God has done on us.
How?
Preach the grace and words of the Lord, each of us who follow his command is his good witness in our life.

My Redeemer is strong; the Lord Almighty is his name

Jeremiah 50:1-46
A message about Babylon.
A nation from the north will attack her and lay waste her land. No one will live in it; both men and animals will flee away.
My people have been lost sheep; their shepherds have led them astray and caused them to roam on the mountains. Whoever found them devoured them, their enemies said,'We are not guilty, for they sinned against the Lord, their true pasture, the Lord, the hope of their fathers.'
Flee out of Babylon; leave the land of the Babylonians, and be like the goats that lead the flock.
She will be the least of the nations- wildness, a dry land, a desert.
In those days, at that time, search will be made for Israel's guilt, but there will be none, and for the sins of Judah, but none will be found, for I will forgive the remnant I spare.
I set a trap for you, O Babylon, and you were caught before you knew it; you were found and captured because you opposed the Lord.
Israel and Judah's Redeemer is strong; the Lord Almighty is his name. He will vigorously defend their cause so that he may bring rest to their land, but unrest to those who live in Babylon.
For it is a land of idols, idols that will go mad with terror.
It will never again be inhabited or lived in fro generation to generation. No one will live there; no man will dwell in it.
Why?
The ruins of Babylon, capital of empire in Jeremiah;s day. King Nebuchadnezzar's great pride and joy, lie in the desert 90km/55 miles south of modern Baghdad.
Jeremiah the delegation that went to Babylon in the 4 your of Zedekiah's reign, six years before the fall of Jerusalem It was given a public reading, then sunk in the Euphrates, as Babylon itself would sink before its conqueror.
The Lord remember His promise to Israel, He forgive the remnant He spared. His covenant endure forever.
The biggest nation in the world, at those day be captured and attacked to nothing. No one dwell in it's land. Never again be inhabited until now.
All of these disaster because of their pride and their sin against the Lord, their idols will go mad with terror.
How?
My Redeemer is strong; the Lord Almighty is his name. His covenant endure forever. I will rest in my land because the Lord remember me.

Pray for my land and the people here

A message about Ammon
Ammonite attacked Israel and got their land and towns.
"Why do you boast of your valleys, boast of your valleys so fruitful? You trust in your riches and say,' Who will attack me?' I will bring terror on you from all those around you" declares the Lord.
Afterward I will restore the fortunes of the Ammonites.
A Message about Edom.
The terror an the pride of your heart have deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rocks, who occupy the heights of the hill. Though you build your nest as high as the eagle's, from there I will bring you down, declares the Lord.
A message about Damascus
Her young men will fall in the streets; all her soldiers will be silenced in that day, declares the Lord Almighty. I will set fire to the walls of Damascus;it will consume the fortresses of Ben-Hadad.
A Message about Kedar an Hazor and Elam
Hazor will become a haunt of jackals, a desolate place forever. No one will live there; no man will dwell in it.
I will break the bow of Elam, the mainstay of their might. I will scatter Elam before their foes, before those who seek their lives; I will bring disaster upon them even my fierce anger, declares the Lord.
Yet I will restore the fortunes of Elam in days to come.
Why?
Ammon was an old enemy of Israel. Ammon is condemned for seizing Israelite land, but will later be restored.
The Assyrians took the city, Damascus in 732BC, in Isaiah's time. It suffered further in the centuries that followed.
Kedar: The tribe descendants of Abraham's son Ishmael, lived as nomads in the Arabian desert. Nebuchadnezzar routed these tribes in 599
Within a year Elam was attacked by Nebuchadnezzar . The country lay east of Babylon, across the Tigris River. The capital, Susa, is mentioned in Nehemiah, Esther, Daniel. It was the winter capital of the Persian Empire.
How?
When Israel suffer those attack from Babylon, the neighbor nations suffer the same terror and attack as Judah. Under the wrath no one can escape from the Lord's punishment. Pray for this land, for even I am doing right, but under suffering comes no one can escape form it. God is full of mercy and love.

Pride and insolence are futile, do not frustrated for the discipline of the Lord

Jeremiah 48:1-47
A Message about Moab
Moab has been at rest from youth, like win left on its dregs, not poured from one jar to another- she has not gone into exile. So she tastes as she did, and her aroma is unchanged.
But days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will send men who pour from jars, and they will pour her out; they will empty her jars and smash her jug.
Mark her drunk, for she has defied the Lord. Let Moab wallow in her vomit; let her be an object of ridicule.
"We have heard of Maob's pride- her overweening pride and conceit, her pride and arrogance and the haughtiness of her heart. I know her insolence(傲慢) but it is futile," declares the Lord, "and her boast accomplish nothing."
Moab will be destroyed as a nation because she defied(無視) the Lord.
Yet I will restore the fortunes of Moab in days to come.
Why?
The wine need to be replace the jar and filter out the dregs, then the aroma will getting better. If keep in the same jar the testy will keep the raw.
Without discipline in our life has not aroma from our life.
The destroy to Moab, because their pride, conceit, arrogance and insolence, all of these are futile. And Moab defied the Lord.
The Moabites occupied the high plateau-land east of the Dead sea. Moab, and neighboring Ammon and Edom, seem to have joined forces with Judah in rebelling against Nebuchadnezzar. Presumably he dealt with them whe he dealt with Judah.
How?
Be humble before the Lord, for He is the king of kings. Honor the name of the Lord. He is worthy to be praised. Life has many trails and test are the discipline to us, let us grow up more like Jesus. Thanks God.

How can it rest when the Lord has commanded it

Jeremiah 47:1-7
A message about the Philistines.
Before Pharaoh attached Gaza.
For the day has come to destroy all the Philistines and to cur off all survivor who could help Tyre and Siden. The Lord is about to destroy the Philistines, the remnant from the coasts of Caphtor(Crete, the island from which the Philistines originally came).
O remnant on the plain, how long will you cut yourselves?
Ah, sword of the Lord, how long till you rest?  Cry from Philistines.
But how can it rest when the Lord has commanded it.
Why?
The Philistines occupied the southern coast lands of Canaan from 12th century on, often warring with the Israelite.
Pharaoh Necho controlled Gaza at the time of his march north in 609, but the city often changed hands. Calamity will come on Philistine from the Nebuchadnezzar must have overrun the Philistine cities when he quelled Judah in 587.
How?
Do not let the wrath of the Lord come, no one can escape from the wrath of the Lord. Pray to the Lord from my heart with praise and joy, the Lord sees our heart and mind.

God disciplines us but only with justice

Jeremiah 46:1-28
For the Lord, the Lord Almighty, will offer sacrifice in the land of the north by the River Euphrates.
A messages about Egypt, "The daughter of Egypt will be put to shame, handed over to the people of the north. You multiply remedies in vain; there is no healing for you. The nations will hear of your shame; your cries will fill the earth. One warrior will stumble one another; both will fall down together."
The Lord Almighty says: " I am about to bring punishment on Amon god of Thebes, on Pharaoh, on Egypt and her gods and her kings. I will hand them to those who seek their lives, to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and his officers. Later, however, Egypt will be inhabited as in times past."
"Do not fear, O Jacob my servant, for I am with you," declares the Lord. "Though I completely destroy all the nations among which I scatter you, I will not completely destroy you. I will discipline you but only with justice; I will not let you go entirely unpunished."
V1-12: describe the defeat of Pharaoh Necho by King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon at Carchemish in 605.
V 13-26: forecast Nebuchadnezzar's invasion of Egypt(which took place in 568)
Why?
Real remedies is in hands of the Lord, the healing of the Mighty God.
Even the Lord destroyed Egypt and Israel and Judah, but the Lord is with Jacob, they will come back from far away, they will be restore as before. Egypt has the similar situation, for the Lord is full of compassion and love.
God deals with evil wherever it occurs.
Migdol, Memphis and Tahpanhes: there were Jewish settlements in these cities in southern Egypt.
How?
The Lord is with me, so do not fear, God discipline me with justice and love. Keep going on the way of the Lord, He leads me, I never walked alone. Praise to the Lord.

Should you then seek great things for yourself?

Jeremiah 45:1-5
A message to Baruch, the Lord said through Jeremiah in the fourth year of Jehoiakim.
Baruch had written on a scroll the words Jeremiah was then dictating. 'Woe to me! The Lord has added sorrow to my pain; I am worn out with groaning and find no rest.'
The Lord said,"Should you then seek great things for yourself? Seek them not. For I will bring disaster on all people, but wherever you go I will let you escape with your life."       'but your life will be spared wherever you go.'
This short chapter connects with chapter 26, the writing of the scroll in 605. Baruch shared something of Jeremiah's distress. God promises he will escape the coming slaughter in the 'tearing down' and 'puling up' of what God has built and planted. That must suffice. This promise comes true in 43:5-6
Why?
My life is in hands of God, under that generation, the Lord's wrath was poured out  on Israel, everything was ruined, how can we seek great things for ourselves, the Lord won't permit.
The Lord save his servant's life under any situation. Even prophet Jeremiah had not rest in his life, suffered many pain.
How?
Do not seek great for myself but for the Lord. I am servant of the Lord.

You will know whose word will stand -- mine or theirs

Jeremiah 44:1-30
The Lord determined to bring disaster on you and to destroy all Judah. God will take away the remnant of Judah who were determined to go to Egypt to settle there. They will all perish in Egypt.
None of the remnant of Judah who has gone to live in Egypt will escape or survive to return to the land of Judah; none will return except a few fugitives.
Jeremiah tall the people in Egypt, but they won't listen to his warning. The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, ' Go ahead then, do what you promised! Keep your vows! But hear the word of the Lord, all Jews living in Egypt:' I swear by my great name,' says the Lord, 'that no one from Judah living anywhere in Egypt will ever again invoke my name or swear.' 'This will be the sign to you that I will punish you in this place, so that you will know that my threats of harm against you will surely stand. I am going to hand Pharaoh Hophra king f Egypt over to his enemies who eek his life, just as I handed Zedekiah king of Judah over to Nebuchadnezzar.
The whole remnant of Judah who came to live in Egypt will know whose word will stand -- mine or theirs.
This pharaoh helped Jerusalem against Babylon in BC 588, then withdrew. In 569 a revolt deposed him, he died trying to regain the throne in 566.
Why?
Despise all that has happened in consequence of playing God false, the people still refuse to listen. Then will go back to worshiping the 'Queen of heaven' and all will be well again!
We here no more of Jeremiah after this. Tradition has it he was stoned to death in Egypt.
The Lord left a few fugitives in Egypt, then they will be witness of what the Lord had warned them before.
How?
The word of the Lord will stand forever. Blessing is the man who obey the word of the Lord, so am I will obey the word of the Lord.

Destined for .....

Jeremiah 43:1-13
All the army officers and all the people disobeyed the Lord's command to stay  the land of Judah. Instead Johanan and all the army officers led away all the remnant of Judah who had come back to live in the land of Judah from all  the nations where they had been scattered. They let away all the men, women and children and the Jeremiah and Barush. So they entered Egypt in disobedience to the Lord and went as far as Tahpanhes.
In Tahpanhes the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah: "While the Jews are watching, take some large stones with you and bury them in clay in the brick pavement at the entrance t Pharaoh's palace in Tahpanhes. Then say to them,' This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: I will send for my servant Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and I will set his throne over this stones I have buries here; he will spread his royal canopy above them. He will come to attack Egypt, bring death to those destined for death, captivity to those destined for the sword..."
As God said, in due course the long arm of Nebuchadnezzar , reaches down into Egypt(568 BC)
Why?
All of these army officers and all of the people under distress still did not confess their sin, they were walked on their way, they thought that is save way to Egypt.
If a man does not turn to the Lord, he destination will be same as the Lord defined.
According to the Jewish historian Josephus, there were Jew among the captives he took back with him.
The stone testify the word of the Lord is truth after a few years later. The Lord had warned them, but they didn't listen.
How?
The destination of sinned man is death, never be changed unless he confess his sin and turn to the Lord. All of us are sinned man, turn to the Lord is the only way to eternal life.

He is full of compassion to us

Jeremiah 42:1-22
All the army officers came to Jeremiah asked Jeremiah hear their petition and pray to the Lord show their way and they promised they will obey the Lord, whether favorable or unfavorable, so that it will go well with them.
Ten days later the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, 'If you stay i this land, I will build you up and not tear you down; I will plant you and not uproot you for I am grieved over the disaster I have inflicted on you. Do not be afraid of the king of Babylon, whom you now fear. I am with you ad will save you and deliver you from his hands. I will show you compassion so that he will have compassion on you and restore you to your land.'
If  you are determined to go to Egypt and your do go to settle there, then the sword you fear will overtake you there, and the famine you dread will follow you into Egypt, and there you will die.
Why?
The Lord has compassion, who has love and grieved over the disaster inflicted on  Judah. The Lord like those people came to Jeremiah to ask for petition to the Lord.
The Lord gave them answer ten days later, the Lord usually asks us waiting for his words.
All the people's declared willingness to obey God's word, when the message comes telling them to stay put, they disobey.
Listen to the word of God be saved, disobey the word of God will die.
How?
No matter under what situation, come to the Lord and pray to Him, He is full of compassion and love, wait for his word and answer, God save us and deliver us from the disaster or trouble.

My hope is in God' s hands

Jeremiah 41:1-18
Ishmael who was of royal blood and had been one of the king's officers came with ten men to Gedaliah. They killing the king of Babylonia had appointed as governor over the land.
The day after Gedaliah's assassination, before anyone knew about it. 80 men who came from Shechem, Siloh and Samaria, bring grain offerings and incense with them to the house of the Lord, Ishmael kill them also.
Ishmael made captives of all the rest of the people who were in Mizpah and set out to cross over to the Ammonites.
Johanan  and all the army officers who were with him heard about all the crimes Ishmael had committed, they took all their men and went to fight Ishmael.
Ishmael and eight of his men escaped from Johanan and fled to the Ammonites.
They went their way to Egypt to escape the Babylonians, they afraid of them because Ishmael had killed Gedaliah.
Why?
Fearing reprisals from Babylon, the people make ready to escape to Egypt.
Only ten people killed so many people in Mizpah, and they were captive out of there, they went their way to Egypt to escape Babylonians, all of these are same as the Lord said through Jeremiah. No one is living in this land for 70 years.
Ishmael those people were of royal blood, they won't agree the appointed governor by Babylonia over their land.
How?
People do what they please, but it is the wrong way, they didn't know it. I am living in this land, I need the sign from the Lord, I believe that the Lord will help me and show me the way.

Persevere the words of God and make right decision

Jeremiah 40:1-16
The commander of the guard found Jeremiah was being carried into exile to Babylon, he said to him,"The Lord your God decreed this disaster for this place. And now the Lord has brought it about; he has done just as he said he would. All this happened because your people sinned against the Lord and did not obey him."
The commander gave Jeremiah provisions and a present and let him go wherever he please. Jeremiah went to Gedaliah and stayed with him among the people who were left behind in the land.
Gedalish to be appointed king as governor over the and and had put him in charge of the men, women and children who were the poorest in the land and who had not been carried into exile to Babylon. People gathered from field to Gedalish. Gedalish ignored warning about Ishmael comes to take his life.
Why?
The words of the Lord has been done as he said, Jeremiah was set to free, Gedalish will be assassinated and all people in Jerusalem and Judah will scatter and be ruined for 70 years.
Even the commander of Babylonian knows that people in Judah sinned against the Lord, and did not obey the Lord.
Gedaliah makes a good start as governor. With Jerusalem in ruins he makes his headquarters at Mipah, 8km/5 miles to the north-west. Those who had fled before the army, escaping to neighboring countries, return and they gather in a good harvest, after the hungry days of occupation.
How?
Do not be a stick-necked man, don't ignore the warning from others. O, Lord give me the wisdom to persevere the words of God and make right decision, to be a gentleman.

I will save you, because you trust in me

Jeremiah 39:1-18
In the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month,  Nebuchadnezzar marched against Jerusalem with his whole army and laid siege to it. On the ninth day of the fourth month of Zedekiah's eleventh year, the city wall was broken through.  X/10/9 ~ 4/9/11 2 years Jerusalem was in siege.
Nebuchadnezzar released Jeremiah from courtyard, and let the commander of the guard trued him over to Gedaliah son of Ahikam, to take him back to hi home.
While Jeremiah has been confined in the courtyard of the guard, the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah,"Go an tell Ebed-Melech the Cushite,I am about to fulfill my words against this city through disaster, not prosperity. you will not be handed over to those you fear I will save you; you will not fall by the sword but will escape with your life, because you trust in me, declare the Lord."
Jeremiah's terrible vision becomes a reality, God's warnings finally give way to judgment.
But even in the midst of judgment, God does not lose sight of individuals. Ebed-Melch's life is saved. He save the life of Jeremiah from the Cistern.
Why?
The Lord takes care anyone who follow his commands and who cares about God's peoples.
The Lord is worthy and faithfulness, his love endure forever.
How?
Do not afraid, the Lord will save me because I trust in Him. If I trust in the Lord I should work in the way of the Lord without fear.
Who am I? I am nobody, but I am a son of the Lord.

Heart of God: Every one may turn from his evil way

Jeremiah 36:1-19
In fourth year of Jehoiakim, the Lord asked Jeremiah toke a scroll and write on it all words that God have spoken to him against Israel and Judah and all nations.
It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the disaster that I intend to do them, so that every one may turn from his evil way, and that I my forgive their iniquity and their sin. Baruch dictated all thee words from Jeremiah, God told him.
In the fifth year of Johoiakim, in the ninth month, all the people in Jerusalem and all the people who came from the cities of Judah to Jerusalem proclaimed a fat before the Lord. Baruch read the words of Jeremiah from the scroll, in the house of the Lord.
Micaiah the son of Gemariah, heard all the words of the Lord from the scroll, he went to told all the officials in king's house. Those official heard the words from Baruch read before them, they were feared. They asked Baruch and Jeremiah go and hide, and let no one know where they are.
Why?
The Lord hopes not only Jeremiah knew what the Lord says, but also all people of Judah and Israel read it. So asked Jeremiah wrote it down on a scroll. Writing on scroll was slow in ancient.
Some of the officials are feared when they heard the words of the Lord from reading of Baruch.
The Lord has full of mercy, he gave many chance to his people to turn away from their evil way. Then his wrath may suspended.
How?
Bible is our scroll of the words of the Lord in this generation, it is more popular and easy to read to every one. What people need is the heart turn to the Lord. Blessing is the man who fear the Lord.

Doing what the Lord says, then it will go well with us

Jeremiah 38:1-28
Obey the Lord by doing what I tell you. Then it will go well with you, ad your life will be spared. But if you refuse to surrender, this is what the Lord has revealed to me: All the women left in the palace of the king of Judah will be brought out to the officials of the king of Babylon.
Jeremiah was put into the cistern, which was in the courtyard of the guard. They lowered Jeremiah by ropes into the cistern; it had not water in it, only mud.
But Ebed-Melech, a Cushite, an official in the royal palace asked the king save Jeremiah out from cistern.
Why?
An appeal to the king, who is anxious to know God's word but lacks faith and courage to act on it, wins him a move to the palace courtyard, but he remains in close custody on a daily ration of bread as long as supplies. The next move into the muddy bottom of the courtyard well, where he would have hied but for Ebedmelch's appeal to the king.
Like to listen is useless, faith and courage to obey the word of Lord is the key.
How?
Don't just read Bible and listen the word of God in Church. Do what the Lord says, obey his command. I need more pray and focus on the Lord.
