1 Kings 1:11-21
Nathan asked Bathsheba, Solomon’s mother, go in to King David and say to him, ‘My lord the king, did you not swear to me your servant: “Surely Solomon your son shall be king after me, and he will sit on my throne”? Why then has Adonijah become king?’
My lord the king, the eyes of all Israel are on you, to learn from you who will sit on the throne of my lord the king after him. Otherwise, as soon as my lord the king is laid to rest with his ancestors, I and my son Solomon will be treated as criminals. Bathsheba replied to king David.
And thanks to some quick thinking by the prophet Nathan, and even quicker action by the old king, Adonijah is out manoeuvred.
Why?
The key to sit on the throne is said by the old king.
Only Nathan knew that the Lord has said to him God loves Solomon and gave him a name when he was born. (2 Samuel 12:24)
The different between Solomon and Adnijah is there is a covenant between God and Solomon. Not worked by man.
What is the covenant between the Lord and me? Yes, I have promised to serve the Lord in the rest of my life.
How?
Do what promised between me and the Lord, God will give the mercy and grace on me. God is my hope and my salvation.
