How to bless the others

Numbers 6:22-27
The Lord said to Moses, Tell Aaron and his sons,
‘This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them:‘The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.' “So they will put my name on the Israelites, and I will bless them.
This blessing has been used by both Jews and Christians in their worship. It acknowledges that it is God who gives all good things, and particularly asks for the gift of God's peace.
Why?
The Lord bless you and keep you: Only God has authority may blesses you and keep your safety.
The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you: then God is rejoice with us and  we need the grace from the Lord.
When God turn his face toward us will give us peace. For we are children of the Lord.
May I be the blessing of the Lord to others.
In Chinese Bible it is
願耶和華賜福給你,保護你。願耶和華使他的臉光照你,賜恩給你。願耶和華向你仰臉,賜你平安
How?
So I am a witness and I may bless other with this words.

Christian are consecrated to the Lord

Numbers 6:1-21
If a man or woman wants to make a special vow, a vow of dedication to the Lord as a Naziritethey must abstain from wine and other fermented drink and must not drink vinegar made from wine or other fermented drink. They must not drink grape juice or eat grapes or raisins.  As long as they remain under their Nazirite vow, they must not eat anything that comes from the grapevine, not even the seeds or skins.
During the entire period of their Nazirite vow, no razor may be used on their head.
Throughout the period of their dedication to the Lord, the Nazirite must not go near a dead body.  Even if their own father or mother or brother or sister dies, they must not make themselves ceremonially unclean on account of them, because the symbol of their dedication to God is on their head. Throughout the period of their dedication, they are consecrated to the Lord.
This is the law of the Nazirite who vows offerings to the Lord in accordance with their dedication, in addition to whatever else they can afford. They must fulfill the vows they have made, according to the law of the Nazirite.
A special vow gives the Nazirite (not to be confused with Nazarene, some one from Nazareth) his or her spiritual status. The outward marks of consecration to God are:

  • No wine or strong drink ( the priests were forbidden this too, as part of fitting themselves to approach God; it may also reflect a commitment to nomadic(游牧) simplicity, over against the 'corrupting' influences of civilization):
  • Uncut hair;
  • Special care to avoid defilement through contact with a dead body

The vow was usually for a limited time, but Samson had a lifelong vow. Samuel may also have been a Nazirite.
It is not known how or when these practises originated, but Nazirites continued to feature on through the exile to New Testament times.
Why?
Nazirite means a man or woman belong to the Lord for limited period, they are dedicated to the Lord, so they have to keep away wine and dead body, and uncut hair. For God is holy,
The head of man is the glory of the Lord, so they uncut hair.
How?
How about a Christian, should keep away from the custom of the world, we are consecrated to the Lord

The test for an unfaithful wife

Numbers 5:11-31
The test for an unfaithful wife.
If feelings of jealousy come over her husband and he suspects his wife and she is impure.
If she has made herself impure and been unfaithful to her husband, this will be the result: When she is made to drink the water that brings a curse and causes bitter suffering, it will enter her, her abdomen will swell and her womb will miscarry, and she will become a curse.  If, however, the woman has not made herself impure, but is clean, she will be cleared of guilt and will be able to have children.
Trial of ordeal
Concern wives suspected of unfaithfulness. In the absence of evidence there is to be trial by ordeal(考驗). Trials of this kind were not uncommon in ancient times, and are well known today in parts of Africa and India. This one is mild by some standards - and also less heavily weighted than many towards a verdict(判決書) of guilty. It is not clear whether the water contained some herb which would induce miscarriage if the woman were guilty and pregnant or whether it worked simply by psychological suggestion.
Why?
This unclean water will make someone sick, but more important is the curse from the Lord, so it will be acceptable to most people.
For God knows anyone and everything, if the woman is pure, God will blesses her. But when husband is jealous to his wife, this married will be worse. The trust is lost between them.
How?
The Blessing from the Lord is important to us, away from the curse and pursue the blessing of the Lord.

Restitution for Wrongs

Numbers 5:1-10
Command the Israelites to send away from the camp anyone who has a defiling skin disease or a discharge of any kind, or who is ceremonially unclean because of a dead body. Send away male and female alike; send them outside the camp so they will not defile their camp, where I dwell among them.
Restitution歸還 for Wrongs
Any man or woman who wrongs another in any way and so is unfaithful to the Lord is guilty  and must confess the sin they have committed. They must make full restitution for the wrong they have done, add a fifth of the value to it and give it all to the person they have wronged.
But if that person has no close relative to whom restitution can be made for the wrong, the restitution belongs to the Lord and must be given to the priest, along with the ram with which atonement is made for the wrongdoer.
V1-4: those who ate 'unclean' are sent into quarantine隔離.
V5-10: provide for compensation when one person wrongs another.
Why?
For God is Holy, so anyone comes to Him, have to be clean. Even skin disease or has sin against the Lord.

God is righteousness so his people have to do right things. Any wrong doer have to make compensation full restitution and add fifth of the value.
Priset is the servant of the Lord, so they may received the ram from wrong doers.
How?
God is holy so fear the Lord and do the right things. Restitution is need for wrongs.

The role of the Levites

Numbers 4:1-49
Count all the men from thirty to fifty years of age who come to serve in the work at the tent of meeting. This is the work of the Kohathites at the tent of meeting: the care of the most holy things.
After Aaron and his sons have finished covering the holy furnishings and all the holy articles, and when the camp is ready to move, only then are the Kohathites to come and do the carrying. But they must not touch the holy things or they will die. The Kohathites are to carry those things that are in the tent of meeting.
Eleazar son of Aaron, the priest, is to have charge of the oil for the light, the fragrant incense, the regular grain offering and the anointing oil. He is to be in charge of the entire tabernacle and everything in it, including its holy furnishings and articles. But the Kohathites must not go in to look at the holy things, even for a moment, or they will die.
This is the service of the Gershonite clans in their carrying and their other work: They are to carry the curtains of the tabernacle, that is, the tent of meeting, its covering and its outer covering of durable leather, the curtains for the entrance to the tent of meeting, This is the service of the Gershonite clans at the tent of meeting. Their duties are to be under the direction of Ithamar son of Aaron, the priest.
Count the Merarites by their clans and families. they are to carry the frames of the tabernacle, its crossbars, posts and bases,  as well as the posts of the surrounding courtyard with their bases, tent pegs, ropes, all their equipment and everything related to their use. Assign to each man the specific things he is to carry.
So Moses, Aaron and the leaders of Israel counted all the Levites by their clans and families.  All the men from thirty to fifty years of agewho came to do the work of serving and carrying the tent of meeting numbered 8,580.
The second census of Levites lists those between 30 to 50, eligible to take care of God's Tent.
Kohathites are responsible for carrying the sacred objects of the sanctuary after the priest have dismantled and covered them.
Gershonites are in charge of transporting the curtains and coverings of the Tent and firecourt under Ithamar's supervision.
Merarites are to look after and transport the framework - pillars, pegs, cords - also under Ithamar's supervision. Wagons drawn by a yoke of oxen are provided for the Gershonites and Merarites.
Why?
The Levites are the servant of the Lord they are take care the fair of the Tent of Meeting. Three clan of Levites have their responsibility to do.
God has assigned them do their job, so that no one complain why they do this, for God is Holy and is the Lord to all of them.
Every role of the Levites are important so as to the service role in church now is important.
The most important to everyone serve the Lord is  focus on the Lord.
How?
Do different jobs in church or any places serve the Lord with team work.

Levites from among the Israelites in place of the first male offspring

Numbers 3:1-51
The names of the sons of Aaron were Nadab the firstborn and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. Those were the names of Aaron’s sons, the anointed priests, who were ordained to serve as priests. Nadab and Abihu, however, died before the Lord when they made an offering with unauthorized fire before him in the Desert of Sinai. They had no sons, so Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests during the lifetime of their father Aaron.
Appoint Aaron and his sons to serve as priests; anyone else who approaches the sanctuary is to be put to death.
The Lord also said to Moses,  “I have taken the Levites from among the Israelites in place of the first male offspring of every Israelite woman. The Levites are mine.
The Lord said to Moses in the Desert of Sinai,  Count the Levites by their families and clans. Count every male a month old or more.”  So Moses counted them, as he was commanded by the word of the Lord.
The total number of Levites counted at the Lord’s command by Moses and Aaron according to their clans, including every male a month old or more, was 22,000.
The total number of firstborn males a month old or more, listed by name, was 22,273. To redeem the 273 firstborn Israelites who exceed the number of the Levites,  collect five shekels for each one, according to the sanctuary shekel, which weighs twenty gerahs.  Give the money for the redemption of the additional Israelites to Aaron and his sons.
From the firstborn of the Israelites he collected silver weighing 1,365 shekels. Moses gave the redemption money to Aaron and his sons, as he was commanded by the word of the Lord.
God's claim on the firstborn goes back to the night of the Passover. Now the Levites replace the firstborn of all Israel on special assignment to assist the priests in the service of God. But the census showed that the firstborn of Israel outnumbered the Levites by 273 and to redeem these a payment must be made.
Why?
God redeem Israelite from Egypt so Israelite need devote the firstborn to the Lord.
It is a action to fear the Lord and give honor to the Lord. When we give first achievement to the Lord, God will blesses us much more. For it is the grace of the Lord that we may have many in our life.
How?
Give what belongs to the Lord, then God's grace and blessing is coming to us.

The Camp

Numbers 2:1-34
The Israelites are to camp around the tent of meeting some distance from it, each of them under their standard and holding the banners of their family.
On the east the divisions of the camp of Judah, next to them is tribe of Issachar, Zebulun will be next.
All men assigned to the camp of Judah. They will set out first.
On the south be the divisions of the camp of Reuben, Simon will camp next to them, Gad will be next.
The camp of the Levites will set out in the middle of the camps. They will set out in the same order as they encamp, each in their own place under their standard.
On the west will be the divisions of the camp of Ephraim. The tribe of Manasseh will be next to them, tribe of Benjamin will be next.
On the north will be the divisions of the camp of Dan, Asher will camp next to them, Naphtali will be next.
The arrangement of four groups of three tribes is the same for camping and for marching. When the nation moved, the three eastern bribes, headed by Judah, led the way.
10:17 gives a slightly different order for the middle section - Gershonites and Merarites carrying God's Tent, then Reuben, Simeon and Gad, followed by the Kohathites with the furnishings. The northern tribes, Dan, Asher and Naphtali bring up the rear. The tribe's leaders are the same as those who helped in the census.
Why?
God arranged this camp sequences, Moses follow God's command. So there was the order among tribes of Israelite.
God's work has his order, and Tent of meeting is the center of Israel, for the Lord is their God and their blessing. But everyone have to keep some distance from it, for God is Holy and men are unclean, in order to protect their life, keep some distance is needed.
How?
Does God is my center in my daily life? Yes, I do know it,

The total number of men was 603550. ; Numbers

Numbers 1:01-54
The Lord spoke to Moses in the tent of meeting in the Desert of Sinai on the first day of the second month of the second year after the Israelites came out of Egypt. He said: Take a census of the whole Israelite community by their clans and families, listing every man by name, one by one.
Moses and Aaron took these men whose names had been specified, and they called the whole community together on the first day of the second month. The people registered their ancestry by their clans and families, and the men twenty years old or more were listed by name, one by one,  as the Lord commanded Moses.
From the descendants of Reuben was 46500
From the descendants of Simeon was 59300
From the descendants of Gad was 45650.
From the descendants of Judah was74600.
From the descendants of Issachar was 54400
From the descendants of Zebulun was57400
From the sons of Joseph was 40500
From the descendants of Manasseh was 32200
From the descendants of Benjamin was 35400
From the descendants of Dan was 62700
From the descendants of Asher was 41500
From the descendants of Naphtali was 53400
The total number was 603550.
The ancestral tribe of the Levites, however, was not counted along with the others. The Levites, however, are to set up their tents around the tabernacle of the covenant law so that my wrath will not fall on the Israelite community. The Levites are to be responsible for the care of the tabernacle of the covenant law.
Numbers covers 38 years in the history of Israel: the period of desert wandering in the Sinai peninsula. It begins two years after the escape from Egypt. It ends on the eve of entry into Canaan. The title comes from the  'numbering' of Israel in the early chapters and chapter 26/
this book might have been called "The grumblings of  a nation". The trust in God which took them out of Egypt evaporated as they began to experience the hardship of desert life. Numbers in one long sad story of complaining and discontent. But God remains constant, present always with is people; and the hard lessons learned will enable Joshua to lead the new generation home.
Why?
The Lord already the behavior of Israelite what will be, how they will complain in their life. So God asked Moses make census and let the record to know how the Israelites become and what tribe will be the leader in Israelites.
The Levites was separated as God's servant, they are to be responsible for the care of the tabernacle of the covenant law.
There were total 603350 men, if including women and children, there were over million people group, the living cost were very high when they were in the desert. But God is the provider to his people.
How?
Trust in the Lord, do not complain but thanks to the Lord for God loves us even sometime God let us be trained to growing up may bear more responsibility.

Delivers will go up on Mount Zion to govern the mountains of Esau; Obadiah

Obadiah 1-21
This is what the Sovereign Lord says about Edom.
See, I will make you small among the nations; you will be utterly despised. The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rocks and make your home on the heights, you who say to yourself, 'Who can bring me down to the ground' Though you soar like the eagle and make your nest among the stars, from there I will bring you down," declares the Lord.
Because of the violence against your brother Jacob, you will be covered with shame; you will be destroyed forever.
The day of the Lord is near for all nationsAs you have done, it will be done to you;  your deeds will return upon your own head.
People from the Negev will occupy the mountains of Esau, and people from the foothills will possess the land of the Philistines. They will occupy the fields of Ephraim and Samaria and Benjamin will possess Gilead.
Delivers will go up on Mount Zion to govern the mountains of Esau. And the kingdom will be the Lord's.
Nothing but his name is known of this prophet. His prophecy concerns the downfall of Edom.
Edom occupied the mountainous region south-east of the Dead Sea. The capital Sela was perched high on a plateau above a sheer rick cliff approached by a narrow gorge. It was virtually impregnable. From mountain strongholds like this the Edomites launched their raids on Palestine. As Esau's descendants they were in fact kin to Israel, but there was never any love lost between the two. The final outrage - and the occasion of Obadiah's prophecy - was their invasion of Judah while Jerusalem was being sacked by the Babylonians in 587BC.
Obadiah denounces Edom's pride. The Edomistes though their strongholds invincible, but they would be utterly destroyed.
Why?
Edom was pride and proud for his strongholds. Edom did not love his brothers, so the destroy came upon them.
God declares that delivers will go up on Mount Zion to govern the mountains of Esau. And the kingdom will be the Lord's. God is the sovereign Lord forever.
Deliver will go up on Mount Zion, the savior, Jesus Christ will be ruler on Easu and all the world.
Your deeds will return upon your own head, God is judge and He is fair to everyone, what you deeds will return upon your own head.
How?
Be a faithful Christian to the Lord! Rejoice and fear the Lord, God is my real stronghold.

God is bringing the nations to judgment,

Isaiah 66:15-24
See, the Lord is coming with fire, and his chariots are like a whirlwind; he will bring down his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire.
Those who consecrate and purify themselves to go into the gardens, following one who is among those who eat the flesh of pigs, rats and other unclean things—they will meet their end together with the one they follow,” declares the Lord.
“I will set a sign among them, and I will send some of those who survive to the nationsThey will proclaim my glory among the nations.  And I will select some of them also to be priests and Levites,” says the Lord. The people from distant island that have no heard of my fame(名譽) or seen my glory.
From one New Moon to another and from one Sabbath to another, all mankind will come and bow down before me,” says the Lord.
“And they will go out and look on the dead bodies of those who rebelled against me; the worms that eat them will not die, the fire that burns them will not be quenched, and they will be loathsome(討厭的) to all mankind.”
God is bringing the nations to judgment, Some he will spare, sending them to distant lands, to tell out his greatness to those who do not know him and to bring back those of his people still scattered abroad.
The final bright picture of Jerusalem, visited by pilgrims of all nations coming to worship God has its dark shadow side in the fate of those who refuse God's mercy.
Why?
God created a new heaven and wonder land to his people. There are pilgrims have mercy from the Lord, they will be priest and Levites to serve the Lord, so the gospel will preaches to the world, all nations.
Those who consecrate and purify themselves are Christians, it they still follow the world to do unclean things, they will be judged at end.
How terrible of the end judgment to those who rebelled against me; the worms that eat them will not die, the fire that burns them will not be quenched.
How?
Fear the Lord and knowing the consequence of what we are doing now!

Where is the house you will build for me?

Isaiah 66:01-14
Where is the house you will build for me? Where will my resting place be?
Has not my hand made all these things, and so they came into being, declares the Lord.
For when I called, no one answered, when I spoke, no one listened. They did evil in my sight and chose what displeases me.
Can a country be born in a day or a nation be brought forth in a moment? Yet no sooner is Zion in labor than she gives birth to her children.
Rejoice with Jerusalem and be glad for her, all you who love herrejoice greatly with her, all you who mourn over her.
I will extend peace to her like a river,  and the wealth of nations like a flooding streamyou will nurse and be carried on her arm and dandled on her knees.
Those who go their own sinful way, who refuse to listen to God will be judged. But God has a place reserved in his new world of those of humble faith. The nation will be reborn, their suffering a thing of the past. These are the faithful ones (the 'remnant' of God's people).
Why?
God will judge those evil men and reject God's word, but God's have reserve a good place for those who fear the Lord and listen to his word.
There is place that rejoice and peace and wealth reserved to the faithful ones.
God don't need any building or places man made for him. for all heavens and world is made by his hand. God like to build a house in my heart. So God may stay with me.
How?
Do not limit the strength of the Lord, God is the sovereign Lord, God is the fountain of blessing.

God creates new heavens and a new earth

Isiah 65:17-25
See, I will create new heavens and a new earth, The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind.
But be glad and rejoice forever in what I will create, for I will create Jerusalem to be a delight and its people a joy.
I will rejoice over Jerusalem and take delight in my people; the sound of weeping and of crying will be heard in it no more.
They will not labor in vain, nor will they bear children doomed to misfortune; for they will be a people blessed by the Lord, they and their descendants with them.
So these final prophecies highlight two contrasting destinies, in a sharp play of light and darkness. God cannot overlook evil. Those who go their own sinful way, who refuse to listen to God, will be judged. But God has a place reserved in his new world for those of humble faith.
Why?
This is a new world and heaven for God's people.
There is a wonderful place, not labor in vain, not will they bear doomed to misfortune.
They will rejoice and delight and live long time with blessing of the Lord.
It is the paradise of God, all who has faith in God will be there.
How?
We Christians has a hope one day we will be in God's heaven, God created for us.
