Numbers 5:11-31
The test for an unfaithful wife.
If feelings of jealousy come over her husband and he suspects his wife and she is impure.
If she has made herself impure and been unfaithful to her husband, this will be the result: When she is made to drink the water that brings a curse and causes bitter suffering, it will enter her, her abdomen will swell and her womb will miscarry, and she will become a curse. If, however, the woman has not made herself impure, but is clean, she will be cleared of guilt and will be able to have children.
Trial of ordeal
Concern wives suspected of unfaithfulness. In the absence of evidence there is to be trial by ordeal(考驗). Trials of this kind were not uncommon in ancient times, and are well known today in parts of Africa and India. This one is mild by some standards - and also less heavily weighted than many towards a verdict(判決書) of guilty. It is not clear whether the water contained some herb which would induce miscarriage if the woman were guilty and pregnant or whether it worked simply by psychological suggestion.
Why?
This unclean water will make someone sick, but more important is the curse from the Lord, so it will be acceptable to most people.
For God knows anyone and everything, if the woman is pure, God will blesses her. But when husband is jealous to his wife, this married will be worse. The trust is lost between them.
How?
The Blessing from the Lord is important to us, away from the curse and pursue the blessing of the Lord.
