The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him

Lamentation 3:1-24

I am the man who has seen affliction by the rod of the Lord’s wrath. He has driven me away and made me walk in darkness rather than light; indeed, he has turned his hand against me again and again, all day long.

I well remember them, and my soul is downcast within me. Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.”

In the third lament, the agony of the nation is focussed on the experience of a single individual. In the darkness, crushed and battered to the point where all hope dies, his faith still rekindles at the thought of God whose character is steadfast love and mercy.

Why?

The punishment of the Lord is severe, it is surrounding them all day long. No one can escape from God's judgment. But there is hope in God's people when we remember these. Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed. for his compassions never fail.

So we have faith in the Lord when we focus on the experience of a single individual. Even I am in the darkness, wait for Him.

How?

Praise the Lord, for God is great! The Lord is my portion, therefore I will wair for him.
