2 Samuel 1:1-16
An Amalekite came to David's camp and reported that he killed Saul when he leaned on his spear.
This man should not a member of Israelite but the enemy. He tries to get some benefit from David for he knew Saul is pursuing David.
The Amalekites' story differs from the account of Saul's death in 1 Samuel 31. If he wisted the facts hoping for a reward, he did not know David. After the Amalekite raid on Ziklag David had no cause to love his race. Nonetheless, it was not racial discrimination but his strong conviction that the king's life was sacred that led to the death sentence.
Why?
In the battle, there is a confusing place, no one knew the truth and belonging. Some thieves or men with greedy hearts may take some benefit.
But David is honoring the Lord, they mourning for Saul's death and kill this guy who killed Saul.
Anyone who against the Lord's anointed is against the Lord.
How?
Honor the name of the Lord with honor the anointed servant of the Lord.

These uncircumcised fellows will come and run me through and abuse me
1 Samuel 31:1-13
These uncircumcised fellows will come and run me through and abuse me.
Saul took his own sword and fell on it. When the armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he too fell on his sword and died with him. So Saul and his three sons and his armor-bearer and all his men died together that same day.
When the people of Jabesh Gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul, all their valiant men marched through the night to Beth Shan. They took down the bodies of Saul and his sons from the wall of Beth Shan and went to Jabesh, where they burned them. Then they took their bones and buried them under a tamarisk tree at Jabesh, and they fasted seven days.
The writer of Chronicles found this account of Saul's death more credible than the Amalekite's story. The latter may well have adjusted the facts to suit his own ends. Fittingly, it is the men of Jabesh who rescue the bodies. They have not forgotten what they owe to Saul's first great victory.
Why?
Even Saul dies, Philistine really abuse his body.
Saul knew he was anointer man before the Lord, He afraid he will be killed and shamed by uncircumcised men.
Saul and his three sons and armor-bearer died together. Showing their honor to the country and the Lord.
People of Jabesh Gilead did not forget the favor of Saul has done to them.
How?
Honor name of the Lord for we are sons of the Lord. Be aware of who we are and our mission in the world.

who stayed with the supplies is to be the same as that of him who went down to the battle. All will share alike
1 Samuel 30:18-31
David replied, “No, my brothers, you must not do that with what the Lord has given us. He has protected us and delivered into our hands the raiding party that came against us. Who will listen to what you say? The share of the man who stayed with the supplies is to be the same as that of him who went down to the battle. All will share alike.” David made this a statute and ordinance for Israel from that day to this.
David sent it to those who were in Bethel, Ramoth Negev, Jattir; and to those in all the other places where he and his men had roamed.
All is recovered. And Judah and the Calebites, also victims of the rai, share in the spoil.
Why?
The victory is by the grace of the Lord, so the man who stayed with the supplies is to be the same as that of him who went down to the battle.
David made a statute and ordinance for Israel and to Christians.
Because it is the grace of the Lord, share the plunder as a gift to all other friends.
How?
Be generous is better than stingy. All I have is the grace of the Lord.

David Destroys the Amalekites
1 Samuel 30:1-17
David and his men wept aloud until they had no strength left to weep.
But David found strength in the Lord his God.
David inquired of the Lord, 'Shall I pursue this raiding party? Will I overtake them?
You will certainly overtake them and succeed in the rescue." God answered.
David's return is well-timed, and the slave's information more than a stroke of luck. All is recovered.
Why?
God is David's strength, David knew when he is weak seek the Lord.
David knew God is his way so before attacking the Amalekites, he prayed to the Lord and asked the way go or not.
How?
David is our good example facing distress and weeping.

God is with David

God is with David
Philistines did not trust in David for he
is Jews.
Achish said I have found no fault in him.
I know you have been as pleasing in my eyes as an angel of God; nevertheless,
the Philistine commanders have said, ’He must no go up with us into battle.’
The other Philistine overloads are less
gullible than Achish, so David is spared the awkward predicament of facing his
fellow countrymen in battle. This chapter refers to earlier events than chapter
28. The Philistines muster at Aphek. They have not yet moved north to Shunem.
Why?
This event let David don’t have to fight with
his people, and makes him guilt among Jews.
Actually, David cheated Achish, but the Lord
protects David from being attacked by his people and keep David going on the way
to be king of Israelite.
How?
All
of the opportunity is given by the Lord and all of the solutions are made by the
Lord either, God with us is the best solution
Different between David and Saul
20190813_晨更
1 Samuel 28:3-25
Samuel was dead, and all Israel are mourned
for him and buried his own town of Ramah. Saul had expelled the mediums and
spiritists from the land.
The Philistines assembled and came and set
up camp at Shunem. Saul saw the Philistine army, he was afraid; terror filled
his heart. Saul inquired of the Lord but the Lord did not answer him, then said
to his attendants, “Find me a woman who is a medium, so I may go and inquire of
her.”
Then Saul knew it was Samuel, and he bowed
down and prostrated himself with his face to the ground.
Because you did not obey the Lord or carry
out his fierce wrath against the Amalekites, the Lord has done this to you
today. The Lord will deliver both Israel and you into the hands of the
Philistines, and tomorrow you and your sons will be with me.
Saul can get no reply from God. In
desperation, he does what has always been forbidden in Israel and seeks out a
fortune-teller, though he had once driven them from his land. He sets out at
night and in disguise on a dangerous journey, close to the enemy camp at
Shunem, to consult the medium at Endor. However, he finds Samuel no more
reassuring in death than he had been in life. Saul’s fate is sealed.
Why?
We confess that there are spirits in the
world.
Saul had no other way to go and had not any
idea to face the Philistine army. So he was afraid and did anything he can
catch.
Saul was humble before he is a king, but the authority may make a man proud and arrogant. It is not the Lord leave Saul, but
Saul has left the Lord.
Saul knew the Lord and God’s word, but he
could not obey God’s word. He forbidden mediums but he asked mediums.
Saul did not pray to the Lord. Saul and David
like Heliu and Jesus, God is the Lord, God is not a consultant.
The only way to Saul is to repent and give up his
king position.
Saul struggled for his own, David is
struggled for his family.
David has some faulty, but not always
David among the Philistines.
20190812 1 Samuel 27:1-28:2
David among the Philistines, for David, thought to himself, “One of these days I will be destroyed by the hand of
Saul.” The best thing is to escape to the land of the Philistines.
Whenever David attacked an area, he did
not leave a man or woman alive, but took sheep and cattle, donkeys and
camels, and clothes. Then returned to Achish.
When Achish asked, “Where did you go
raiding today?” David would ay. “Against the Negav of Judah” or “Against
the Negev of Jerahmeel” or “Against the Negev of the Kenites.” He did not leave
a man or woman alive to be brought to Gathm. For he thought, “they might
inform on us and say, “This is what David did.”
Achish said,” very well, I will make you my
bodyguard for life.” On the day the Philistines gathered their forces to
fight against Israel.
Why?
David did not ask the Lord before he
decided went to Achish.
David cheated second time before the king
Achish.
Taking benefit between David and Achish.
Just solve the problem of emergency. There are not really friends but temporary
be a benefit to each other.
Confess that all of us are sinners,
sometimes we are weak in spirit, we may make a mistake, but God loves us, guides
us the right way. Forgive our sins if we are obeying God’s word. In some emergency
situations, we should be smart as a snake.
How?
Praise
to the Lord for his Love endure forever
