1 Samuel 1:9-18
And Hannah made a vow, saying, “Lord Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head.”
“Not so, my lord,” Hannah replied, “I am a woman who is deeply troubled. I have not been drinking wine or beer; I was pouring out my soul to the Lord. Do not take your servant for a wicked woman; I have been praying here out of my great anguish and grief.”
Eli answered, “Go in peace, and may the God of Israel grant you what you have asked of him.”
She said, “May your servant find favor in your eyes.” Then she went her way and ate something, and her face was no longer downcast.
Hannah's vow: The child is dedicated to God for life under a Nazirite vow.
Only her lips moved: It was usual to pray aloud. Eli is quick to jump to the wrong conclusion. Religious life must have been at a low ebb(衰退) if worshippers came drunk to God's Tent.
Why?
Hannah was under deep distress and she has no other way. She prays to the Lord, pouring out his soul to the Lord.
Hannah made a vow with the Lord in his heart. She did not speak aloud but in her heart.
God listened to her prayers and through Eli answer to Hannah.
Hannah after her pray and listen to Eli's word, she went home without downcast, this is the faith appearance outside.
How?
Our God is a living God, who listens to our prayers and help us to make it in his time and place. What we can do is pour out our soul to the Lord and have faith without downcast and grief.
