Isaiah 49:1-6
The servant of the Lord.
From my birth he has made mention of my name. He made my mouth like a sharpened sword, in the shadow of his hand he hid me; he made me into a polished arrow and concealed me in his quiver. He said to me, "You are my servant, I will displa my splendor."
But I said, "I have labored to no purpose; I hae spent my strength in vain and for othing. my reward is with my God."
The Lord says "It is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the trives of Jacob and bring back those of Israe I have kept. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring my salvation to the ends of the earth."
Why?
Part two of the larger section(40-55) opens with the econd 'Servant Song'. God's servant is Israel, yet also one who will brig Israel back. COmfort, copassion and restoratio are the keynotes.
Mouth like a sharpened sword is the word of righteousness. Devide the right and wrong things.
We will feel weary and frustrated for many things. We will complain to the Lord, I labored in vain and for nothing, even I believed that my reward is with my Lord.
But the Lord gives us more big misson and vision that I am not only his servant but is the light in Gentile, preach gospel to the ends of the earth.
Do not look down what I am doing and what my position is. All have the purpose of the Lord.
How?
Encourage and get strength from the Lord, I am his servant and I will be the light of Gentil and proclaim his holy name to end of the world.
