1 Thessalonians 1:1-10
We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
For we know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you, because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction(信念).
You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe sufferingwith the joy given by the Holy Spirit. And so you became a model to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia.
Paul is the author of the letter. But he writes in association with Silvanus and Timothy, his companions on the mission to Thessalonica, and now in Corinth. This coauthorship is reflected in the use of 'we', something which distinguishes 1 Thessalonians from Paul's other letters.
The response of the people of Thessalonica to the gospel message, and all that has happened since, is something to thank God for.
This little group of Christians has endured persecution. They were deprived of their teachers far too soon. Yet they have stood firm. More than that, within months they have become an example of unwavering faith to the rest of Greece, spreading the Good News far and wide by word and life.
Why?
Faith, love and hope in Jesus Christ is the way to face in out life and work. Work by faith, labor with love, endurence inspired by hope.
Gospel of Christ is not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviciton. Do not give the word only but with love and life of us and rely on the power of Holy Spirit.
Became a model to all the believers is not easy, but it is the target in my life.
How?
Let me become imitator of the Lord, and become a model to all the believers in Tainan.
