Hosea 7:1-16
Israel’s arrogance testifies against him,but despite all this he does not return to the Lord his God or search for him.
Ephraim is like a dove, easily deceived and senseless—now calling to Egypt, now turning to Assyria.
Woe to them, because they have strayed from me! Destruction to them, because they have rebelled against me! I long to redeem them but they speak about me falsely.
They do not cry out to me from their hearts but wail on their beds.
They do not turn to the Most High; they are like a faulty bow. Their leaders will fall by the sword because of their insolent(粗野) words. For this they will be ridiculed in the land of Egypt.
At court it is the same. King fall at the hands of hotheads and conspirator.
Israel turns to foreign peoples, foreign powers, foreign gods; but never to the Lord.
Hosea's language is vividly pictorial.
Oven : They baked their flat loaves on saucer-shape 'hot-plate' placed upside down over the embers(餘燼).
v8: the loaf must be turned over to cook both sides.
Why?
God described the sins of Israel, Epharaim.
Dove looks good but fool, easily deceived and senseless.
Faulty bow: could not used anymore.
Israel's arrogance testifies against him, his consequence is made by themselves.
God long to redeem them, but they speak lies against God.
How?
Be humble and do not arrogance before the Lord and men.
