Hosea 9:1-9
Punishment for Israel!
Do not rejoice, Israel; do not be jubilant like the other nations. For you have been unfaithful to your God
Even if they escape from destruction, Egypt will gather them, and Memphis will bury them.
The days of punishment are coming, the days of reckoning are at hand. Let Israel know this. Because your sins are so many and your hostility so great, the prophet is considered a fool, the inspired man a maniac.
They sunk deep into corruption, as in the days of Gibeah. God will remember their wickedness and punish them for their sins.
It was probably at the height of the festival to mark the grape harvest that Hosea spoke out.
The people ma call him a fool, but he knows he is God's watchman and he will not hold his tongue.
Israel will become a slave-nation to Assyria, as they once were to Egypt.
Memphis: The pyramid tombs of Egypt's kings had stood there since the 26th century BC.
Gibeah: For the evil deed referred to.
Why?
Real rejoice is under the love and blessing of the Lord.
Who can stand before the fury of the Lord?
Israelite is punished by the Lord for their own sins are so many.
The days of punishment is the day of God's judgment.
How?
Fear the Lord and obey God's command is the blessing and rejoice.
