Isaiah 15:1-9
A Prophecy Against Moab
Ar in Moab is ruined, destroyed in a night! Kir in Moab is ruined, destroyed in a night!
Dibon goes up to its temple, to its high places to weep; Moab wails over Nebo and Medeba. Every head is shaved and every beard cut off.
My heart cries out over Moab; her fugitives(難民) flee as far as Zoar, as far as Eglath Shelishiyah. They go up the hill to Luhith, weeping as they go; on the road to Horonaim they lament their destruction
Their outcry echoes along the border of Moab; their wailing reaches as far as Eglaim, their lamentation as far as Beer Elim.
The Moab were descendants of Abraham's nephew, Lot. They occupied the plateau land east of the Dead Sea. It was from Maon that Ruth came. At times the Moabites were on good terms with the Israelites, but they had no share in Israel's faith. Isaiah is stirred to sympathy at the spectacle of Maob's suffering.
These are all town in Maobs, 'Nebo' is the mountain from which Moses viewed the promised land; 'Zoar' a town at the southern Sodom. The 'Valley of willows/poplars' is probably the boundary between Moab and Edom to the south.
Why?
When diisaster come, there is no one can escape, even different country. So as economy crisis come it affects whole world.
Isiah felt the terrible of Moah, their relative country.
Head is shaved and beard cut off means shame on their traditional culture.
How?
Do not joy with other country under suffering, it is warning to everyone.
