Genesis 17:1-8
When Abram was 99 years old, God appeared to him said to him "I will confirm my covenant between me and you, and you will be the father of many nations. Your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations. The whole land of Canaan, where you are now an alien, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you; and I will be their God."
When Ishmael was 13 years old. God appeared to Abram and told him he will have his own child.
God will change his name whom who chosen. For the name means His purpose of plan.
God confirms the covenant once again, giving new names to Abram and Sarai.
Why?
Most ancient peoples, including the Hebrews, attached great significance to the names of people and places. People names often said something about their origins, or expressed a prayer.
The change of name here indicates a new beginning. So Abram ('exalted father') is changed to Abraham ('father of many') .And Sarai becomes Sarah.
How?
My name means a light shinning to far places with heat and bright light, it is the light of life in this world. May my life could be one of God's light to the darkness.Let people in darkness sees the hope of the Lord.
