Judges 1:22-35
House of Joseph attacked Bethel.
Manasseh did not drive out the people of Beth Shan or Taanach.. and their surrounding settlement.
Nor Ephraim drive out the Canaanites living in Gezer, neither did Zebulun drive out the Cananites livin in Kitron or ahalol. Nor did Asher drive out those living in Acco or Sidon.. Neither did Naphtali drive out those living in Beth Shemesh or Beth Anath.
The Amorites confined the Danites to the hill country, not allowing them to come down into the plain.
Seven tribes did not drive out the Canaanites in west of Jodan river. Only two tribes drove Canaanite out their land.
Judah, the trive from which David and his line of kins would come, is first to continue the conquest after Joshua's death, with notable success. The Benjamine failure to drive out the Jevusites from Jerusalem qualifies the victory of verse 8. the stronghold would not fall until Knin David took it.
Why?
These seven tribes had not faith in the Lord and asked Lord help them to make it.
The human scene in Judges is a depressing one. The nation's fortunes follow a monotonous, repetitive cycle. Israel deserts God for the local gods, the suffer at the hands of the Canaanites and cry out to God for help. God send a deliverer. All is well for a while: then the old pattern of infidelity(不忠) reasserts(重新確立) itself. There is no more graphic portrayal in Scripture of the tendency humans have to go their own way - even those who know God.
How?
Walk on our own way or God's way? The consequence is so clear depends on what way we chose.
