Disobedience brings defeat

Judges 2:11-23
Then the Lord raised up judges, who saved them out of the hands of these raiders. For the Lord relented because of their groaning under those who oppressed and afflicted them. But when the judge died, the people returned to ways even more corrupt than those of their ancestors, following other gods and serving and worshiping them. They refused to give up their evil practices and stubborn ways.
God says "I will use them to test Israel and see whether they will keep the way of the Lord and walk in it as their ancestors did."
V6-9 brings us back to the point at which the book of Joshua concluded. V11-23 set out the repeated pattern of events which began once the conquest generation had die out.
As a result of disobedience, of abandoning God in favour of the local gods, the surrounding nations are not driven out. They remain as a thorn in Israel's side, to test the nation and keep Israel's fighting men well trained in the skills of war.
Why?
Man watches their own way and try to change it by their own strength and rely on other gods. They forgot the Lord Almighty is their only God.
When people pray or cry out to the Lord, God relented to them. God is Love!
How?
Disobedience brings defeat. Fear the Lord and obey his commandment.
