Jeremiah 2:1-19
God remember the devotion of Israel youth . But now they did not ask "Where is the Lord, who brought us up out of Egypt."
The priest did not ask, 'Where is the Lord?' The leaders revelled against God. The prophets prophesied by Baal, following worthless idols.
Be appalled(懾)at this, you heavens, and shudder (不寒而栗)with great horror," declares the Lord.
My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.
Chapter 2-24 are all prophecies against Judah and Jerusalem. and Jerusalem. Jeremiah begins with a tender portrayal of 'first love': the time when the nation was faithful to God, when God led them towards their new land, protecting them from harm. But in Canaan Israel betrayed against them. The heathen(異教徒) nations are at least loyal to their idols. Not so the people of the living God. Their offence is set before them in a series of vivid pictures.
They prefer their own polluted water to God's fresh spring. They would sooner turn to Egypt and Assyria for help than to God.
Why?
People are easy forget the living God have done to them, and when they fall, they try to find the help by themselves.
God is full of mercy, God remember the royalty of Israel when they were young, so God sent Jeremiah to warning his children turn back before his angry pour down on them.
God gives us living water, alway come to get the living water to rest and gain strength when we are tired and weary. Search help from the Lord instead from man.
How?
Remember God is my living water, my savior and my shield.
