Psalm 22:1-31
But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by everyone, despised by the people. All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads. Do not be far from me, for trouble is near and there is no one to help.
But you, Lord, do not be far from me. You are my strength; come quickly to help me. Deliver me from the sword, my precious life from the power of the dogs
I will declare your name to my people; in the assembly I will praise you.
All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him,
Posterity will serve him; future generations will be told about the Lord.
Kidner calls this "The psalm o the cross", because Jesus used the opening words to cry his anguish on the cross.
The experience goes far beyond David's own, describing not an illness but what would appear to be 'an execution'. The terms in which the suffer's agony of mind and body are described became an extraordinarily precise description of Jesus' last hours. That feeling of desertion by God becomes a terrible reality for Jesus, enduring the crushing, suffocating weight of human sin which tears him apart, seeming to sever the essential unity of Father and Son.
In the psalm, despair at GOd's silence and the psalmist's own situation alternates with hope - hope that springs out of every recollection of God's past dealings with him THe final prayer beings new inward assurance, expressed in open praise.
If at the deepest level, the early verses of Psalm 22 speak of Christ's suffering, surely the closing verses speak of the worldwide deliverance he made possible.
Why?
When we are suffering or in difficulty, we feel like a worm and not a man, for we lost the quality of life. So the distress and sadness will full of us and frustrated with everything.
But you, Lord, do not be far from me. This is the change in attitude and perspective.
How can we change our mind and eyes to the Lord, the way is always trust in the Lord and learn it from formal experience, encouraged by other Christians.
Our mission is to let future generations will be told about the Lord.
How?
Keep in mind that Jesus Christ is my Lord, God does not forsake me for God's love endure forever. Suffering is good to me to experience the grace of the Lord.
