I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners

 Matthew 9:1-13

Some men brought to him a paralyzed man, lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the man, Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven.”

Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, “Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts? Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins. So he said to the paralyzed man, “Get up, take your mat and go home.”

On hearing this, Jesus said, It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

The man with paralysis. Jesus uses the physical healing as proof of the spiritual cure: the man's forgiveness.

Son of man: A phrase Jesus often uses to describe himself. It emphasizes his humanity.

The tax collector is called Levi, and the feast is held at his house. 'Matthew may have been Levi's first name, as 'Peter' was Simon's. Jesus's presence in such a company scandalized the religious Pharaisees.

Why?

Jesus has the authority to forgive our sins. It is the authority of the son of the Lord.

First, forgive the sin then heal his diseases. diseases come from our sins.

Healing our disease is temporary but erase our sins is more important.

Jesus is the savior and a doctor to heal the sinner. Jesus coming for all of the sinners. If we don't think we are sinner, we don't need Jesus, the doctor of our life.

How?

Subdue to the Lord, for all of us are sinners, only Jesus can save us
