Matthew 4:23-5:12
Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed; and he healed them. Large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis,[g] Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan followed him.
Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them.
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.
Setting on the hillside with his followers all around him Jesus tells them how his disciples are meant to live. This is no simple set of rules. Their whole attitude and outlook are to be transformed: from the inside out. Their goal is goodness like God's, which knows no bounds.
Jesus turns ordinary human ideas about happiness upside down. Contrary t general opinion. It is not rich. the readiness to forgive, having their hearts set on God, peacemaking. Their reward will be to receive what they long for. And their lives are effective in the world: they put the seasoning into life, they stop the rot, they light up the way. By what they do and say and how they react, they reflect something of what God himself is like - so that others see and give God the credit.
Why?
People come to Jesus most is for their sick and their diseases. They hope the healing comes upon them. But more important is the healing of their heart, from inside out.
So Jesus teaches them on the mountain the eight blessing peoples. We have changed our custom behavior and our mind inside to follow Jesus Christ.
Righteousness is good for everyone, but many people don't like it. Do my best to meet these eight blessings.
