2 Samuel 5:1-16
David becomes king over Israel, all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and made a compact, and they anointed David.
David conquers Jerusalem. David took up residence in the fortress and called it the City of David. And he became more and more powerful, because the Lord God Almighty was with him.
After David left Hebron, David took more concubines and wives in Jerusalem, and more sons and daughters were born to him.
The writer makes it clear that David is no usurper篡位. God has given him his title to the throne: a fact recognized by Saul.
Although part of Jerusalem fell to Judah at the conquest征服, the fortress itself had never been taken. The ground for their boast that a garrison駐軍 of blind men and cripples could hold it. But they underestimated David.
Why?
Jerusalem was a first-rate choice of capital. It was centrally situated, tribally neutral, had a distinguished pre-history from Abraham's time and could therefore provide the 12 tribes with unifying centre. It was held by Judah until Nebuchadnezzar destroyed it 400 years later.
The writer wrote David took many concubines and wives leads him astray to his kingdom.
David is no usurper, it is God has given him the title of the throne.
How?
God gives us that no one can take it away.
