Jeremiah 40:1-16
Jeremiah was freed from chain among all the captives. The commander gave him provisions and a present and let him go. So Jeremiah went to Gedaliah son of Ahikam at Mizpah and stayed with him among the people who were left behind in the land.
When all the army officers and their men who were still in the open country heard that the king of Babylon had appointed Gedaliah son of Ahikam as governor over the land and had put him in charge of the men in the land and who had not been carried into exile to Babylon, they came to Gedaliah at Mizpah.
Gedaliah son of Aikam did not believe Ishmael is to take his life.
Chapter 40-44 focus on those left behind when the rest are taken into exile. Gedaliah makes a good start as governor. With Jerusalem in ruins he makes his headquarters at Mizpah, 8km to the north-west. Those who had fled before the army, escaping to neighboring countries, return and they gather in a good harvest, after the hungry days of occupation.
Why?
Somehow under captive could be freed is good to live, but there are some people insist their way and do not listen to the word of the Lord. They discard the good life in Mizpah, and choose to escape to Egypt be a slave.
Jeremiah was freed from chain, and he won the respect from king of Babylonian and command gave him present as the Lord said to him.
How?
Evenything happened has the way of the Lord, do not try to against the way of the Lord, but obey and follow God's word and his way is the best way to us.
