Nehemiah 8:1-12
On the first day of the seventh month all the people came together as one in the square before the Water Gate. Ezra the priest brought the Law before the assembly, which was made up of men and women and all who were able to understand. He read it aloud from day break till noon as he faced the square before the Water Gate in the presence of the men, women and others who could understand. And all the people listened attentively to the Book of the Law.
Ezra praised the Lord, the great God; and all the people lifted their hands and responded, "Amen! Amen!" Then they bowed down and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground.
The people ask Ezra to bring out the book of the law. Ezra reads and the Levites explain to a patient and attentive audience.(Maybe they also translated for some who spoke Aramaic and knew no Hebrew.
Why?
People came to square before the Water Gate and ask Ezra read the book of Law to them, it means Israelite were really wanted to know the word of God, after they return from exile.
No only priests but also Levites explain to a patient and attentive audience.
It was a spiritual revival among people in Jerusalem.
Focus on the word of God and read it in mind is the blessing from the Lord.
No only read it but also practice it in daily life is more important.
How?
Listened attentively to the Book of the Law is blessing and signal to spiritual revival. Do I read the Bible attentively?
