Nehemiah 5:1-13
Now the men and their wives raised a great outcry against their fellow Jews.
When I heard their outcry and their charges, I was very angry. I pondered them in my mind and then accused the nobles and officials. I told them, " You are charging your own people interest!" So I called together a large meeting to deal with them and said: "As far as possible, we have bought back out fellow Jews who were sold to the Gentiles. Now you are selling your own people, only for them to be sold back to us!" They kept quiet, because they could find nothing to say.
Let us stop charging interest! Give back to them immediately their fields, vineyards, olive groves and houses, and also the interest you are charging them.
"We will give it back", they said. "And we will not demand anything more from them. We will do as you say." Then I summoned the priests and made the nobles and officials take an oath to do what they had promised.
I also shook out the folds of my robe and said, “In this way may God shake out of their house and possessions anyone who does not keep this promise. So may such a person be shaken out and emptied!
While Nehemiah has been buying back Hebrew slaves and Loaning money and food to the poor even providing his own support as governor, rich Jews have been exacting interest from their fellow countrymen, contrary to the law and selling them as slaves to foreigners. Nehemiah takes firm action to set this right.
Why?
When people were come together to rebuild the wall, but their family and their field, house was control under their rich Jews, their children were slave of the Jews. It is against the law of Jews.
How the righteous could be extended? Nehemiah have pondered it, them he call a meeting them accuse the nobles and official.
1. Pondered them in my mind. 2. Accused the nobles and officials. 3. Called them a large meeting to deal with them. 4. Say the works compare with them and me 5. Let us stop charging interest. 6. Summoned the priests and made the nobles and officials take an oath to do what they had promised. 6. Say to them if they don't keep the promise, may such person be shaken out and emptied.
How?
Nehemiah give us a good example how to make justice be done and really help the poor and be slaved people.
