2 John 1:13
Because of the truth, which lives in us and will be with us forever.
Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Father's Son, will be with us in truth and love.
John write letter to lady and her children, a new command but one we have had from the beginning- to "love one another."
Anyone who runs ahead an does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.
John hope to visit them and talk with them face to face, so that our joy may be complete.
2 and 3 John are real letters.
Like 1 John, warns against false teachers, encourages the readers to hold to the truth, and focuses on a favorite theme: Jesus' command that those who follow him should love one another.
Why?
Those who 'go beyond' it cannot be from God. John is combating the same sort of trouble here a in hi first letter.
Those whose teaching contradicts the fundamental truth about Jesus Christ should not be made welcome.
Go beyond teaching- teaching something else, that Jesus Christ does not command, added some human ideas. That are false teaching.
Truth is in God, Jesus Christ and Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit witnesses the truth.
Joy may be complete for living in love and truth, and face to face fellowship.
How?
Keep watching the false teaching, obey the command of God, love one another. May the joy be complete in me and in the Lord.
