1 John 5:13-21
This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us - whatever we ask - we know that we have what we asked of him.
If anyone sees his brother commit a sin that does not lead to death, he should pray and God will give him life. There is a sin that leas to death. I am not saying that he should pray about that. All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death.
We know that 1) anyone born of God does not continue to sin; who keeps him safe, and the evil one cannot harm him. Christ himself keeps his followers from continuing in the old sinful way of life
2) we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one. We know we belong to God in an alien world.
3) the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. Through the Son of God we know God himself, and share his eternal life.
Why?
If our conscience is clear on this score, we can approach God with confidence. He answers the prayers of those who obey him.
God command us to believe that the Jesus of history is in fact the on of God, the Christ- and to to love one another as Jesus commanded. Those who do so 'live in him and he in them'. We know it by his gift of the Spirit.
The false teachers loved to talk about 'knowledge'. John makes his own list of thing 'we know' for a certainty.
Having set out the certainties. John urges his readers in closing: 'Do not abandon the real for the illusory虛幻'
How?
My believe is not a knowledge but a true in my heart, so I have confidence that God love me, and He keeps me safe and I will obey Him what he says. We I do so, he listens what my pray. Have confidence in approaching God.
