1 Chronicles
10:1-14
Saul takes his life, he and his three sons died, and all his house died together.
When all the
inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead heard of everything the Philistines had done to
Saul, all their valiant men went and took the bodies of Saul and his sons and bought
them to Jabesh. They buried their bone under the great tree in Jabesh and they
fasted seven days.
Saul died
because he was unfaithful to the Lord.
Why?
For the Chronicler,
the history of the monarchy begins with David. Here are sufficient comment on
Israel’s first king.
The people
of Jabesh owed a debt to Saul: see 1 Samuel 11, Saul’s timely help won lasting
gratitude. Saul first victory of war.
Men of Jabesh remember the help of Saul to them.
If something
happened, it was almighty God who made it happen.
How?
Remember what God had done for me. Be faithful to the Lord!
